Shalamar - Uptown Festival Lyrics

Going to a go-go
Going to a go-go (Na, na, na, na, yeah, yeah)

Well, there's a brand new place I found
Where people come from miles around
They come from everywhere and if you drop in there
You might see anyone in town

Going to a go-go (Everybody)
Going to a go-go (Come on now)
Don't you wanna go, yeah (Yeah)

Oh, sugar pie, honey bunch
You know that I love you
Oh, I can't help myself
I love you and nobody else

Oh, you're in and out my life (In and out my life)
You come and you go (Come and you go)
Leavin' just your picture behind (Ooohooohooo)
And I've kissed it one thousand times, hey, hey, hey, hey

Baby, everything is alright
Uptight, out of sight
Baby, everything is alright
Uptight, out of sight

Stop in the name of love
Before you break my heart
Stop in the name of love
Before you break my heart

Think it over
Oh, think it over

I tried so hard to be patient
Hopin' you'd stop this infatuation
But each time we are together
I'm so afraid of losing you forever

Stop

You're sweet (You're sweet) as a honey bee
But like a honey bee stings you've gone and left my heart in dreams
All you left (All you left) is our favourite song
The one we danced to all night long

You used to bring (Bring) sweet memories
Of a tender love that used to be

Now it's the same old song
But with a different meaning since you've been gone
Same (Same) old song (Song)
But with a different meaning since you've been gone

Love you, oh, baby

42 years ago ? Wtf happened?

    b.... ....

Yes. A Saturday night in June 1977, waiting to pay the cover at the New Prelude in New Hope, Pennsylvania, a guy a couple people ahead of me, dark hair and mustache (of course), in a white Lacoste polo, dancing in place to the instrumental part of “Tears of a Clown” as he paid. Can remember it like it was yesterday.

Great song, I was 9 at the time and always liked those songs that had a medley of songs within them. I was 15 when Dead Giveaway was popular, and at the time, in 83, I had no idea that Shalamar sang this too.

    O.... t....

@jam fal still here still reminiscing still going strong I think 🤪👍 hope you and yours are well have a happy xmas and a good new year.

  35. m.... ....

Please note that this was 1977. Shalamar was trying to find themselves then as Jody Watley was 18 at the time still in senior high school.

    m.... ....

Actually I heard this song was recorded in 1975.. Was  offered to Pat Davis to be a part of Shalamar. She had to turn it down because of her commitment to her group Something special!....But released in early 1977 with Watley, Daniels, and Mumford!

  36. a.... s....

    this song is awesome!

    a.... s....

You are so right! This song in a word--GENIUS!

  37. b.... ....

If Im not mistaken,no one in the popular line-up sang on here. These guys were all studio singers that were replaced byJody,Howard and Jeffery for commercial reasons after this recording.

    b.... ....

You're exactly right. Howard Hewett didn't join the group until '79.

    b.... ....

YOU'RE RIGHT, THESE ARE STUDIO SINGERS MARKETED AS SHALAMAR

  38. d.... g....

    superbe

  39. K.... ....

Uptown Festival did not feature Jody Watley.  She was a popular Soul Train dancer that was hand picked by the producers to be part of Shalamar after this recording was made.  So she did not sing on this record.

    K.... ....

+Kawolski - Now that you mention it, it kind of doesn't sound like her. Do you know who the vocalist was?

    K.... ....

The wonderful Pat Powdrill, Gary Mumford and Andrea(?)were the uncredited vocalists.

    K.... ....

Thanks for clarifying that. I just heard this song after 20 years and I said that does NOT sound like Jody Watley.

    K.... ....

I thought not. It doesn’t sound like Jody.

    K.... ....

I wish there was video to this song
