This has always been a controversial subject. I fully appreciate your opinion, however, to me, all that great music from the late seventies and early eighties was much better than today, when the radio just plays formula pop crap.

Back in the day, the popularity and worldwide scope of R&B, jazz funk and disco music resulted in a powerful impact on society. These generas of music influenced daily life, fashion, attitudes and language in a way few other social developments have equalled.

In the final analysis, unfortunately, today's pop music is getting worse and worse. The music is slower, methodically simpler, louder, more repetitive, more "I" focused and more angry with anti-social sentiments.😭😭😭😭

I don't disagree that this type of music is amazing, and had (and still has) a positive influence on people who listen to it. However, I think that's an overstatement of both the societal impact of this music as well as the analysis of today's pop music.

Maybe you could elaborate on these two things?

With regard to the latter:
- A lot of R&B is slow.
- A lot of the song structures from hits like these are pretty simple too: intro, verse, chorus, verse, little bridge or synth breakdown, and chorus to outro, so I don't see how music today can be considered any more simple methodologically when at the very minimum, they follow a similar structure.
- Some of these old hits are loud and repetitive too, but sometimes that's what someone might be in the mood for.
- Music that is "I"-focused, angry or anti-social doesn't have to be bad. Isn't music a way to self-express?

I think that just because modern music is different, that doesn't necessarily means it's bad. Didn't a similar sentiment appear when jazz became popular, or when rock n' roll became popular? And yet, today people look back on old hits from those genres and still love them.

I am not going to carry out a PhD dissertation regarding an understanding of produced and reproduced structures and dynamics of power relations in current popular music discourses.

However, all l can say to you is that in the past, the internet never existed and neither did a lot of electronic music. Nowadays music is made digitally and things like YouTube has allowed artists to have access to a huge audience. Artists then proceed to making music that is able to appeal to the biggest audience, which has made a bland, toned down music that we see in the radio. Music has been channeled to have less depth and more of a widespread audience. This can make big corporations and music record companies rich but the result is the lack of culture.
