@CrownLazerz Shad's musical style is more closely related to thrash metal and (more so with Somber Eyes to the Sky and Of One Blood) melodic death metal. And Lamb of God? I mean, c'mon! Of course there is melody there, Mark Morton and Willie Adler are excellent guitarists, but LoG is really just a pure modern heavy metal band. No metalcore influence whatsoever. None.

@CrownLazerz Killswtich, maybe. It is completely probable to say that Killswtich Engage was one of the first mainstream metalcore bands. But as for Lamb of God and Shad, NO. Those two are not metalcore bands. They are strictly heavy metal bands. I could see how someone might construe Shad as a metalcore band, Brian Fair has a nice brutal scream, sometimes complimented by the actual singing of Matt Bachand.

But my personal favorite is The Mystery of One Spirit. Other songs that are AMAZING include Pure, Somber Angel, Lifeless, Crushing Belial, Of One Blood, Root Bound Apollo, Idle Hands, Stepping Outside The CIrcle, Act of Contrition, Failure of the Devout, Dread Uprising, King of Nothing and A Public Execution. Haha thats alot lol

NAH. 'Cause Joey Jordison played for a Death Metal band. And Joey is a VERY, VERY good drum player. He has been playing since he was five. And Mick Thompson played for a Death Metal band, too. So, you have to be pretty skilled to for a Death Metal band. But I really don't know anything about Shadows Fall, so, yeah.

yeah but they're not death metal or black metal anyway. they're heavy modern thrash. of one blood (the album this is on) is a little darker in a sense than they're other stuff, but it's not death metal.

Most music catagoreys are divided by sub catagoreys. Its stupid to me metal is metal and rap is crap see there are no sub catagoreys.

I say they follow the path of trash mix with death metal. But to tell the truth, there is way to many types of metal to even count.

death metal's characterized by deep vocals and tons of blast beats and break downs... black metal is not all antichristian bc there are christian black and death metal bands.. shadows fall is part of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal bands. They're style is more along the line of metalcore mixed with thrash and a little bit of hardcore.

Also I think Jon Donais did a great job compensating for his out of tune guitar. lol Great band reguardless.

What the fuck are you talking about? Um, if metalcore and thrash aren't anything alike, then why did thrash inspire metalcore? Coincidence? Nope. Very similar genres. The only difference is that thrash uses a different articulation in the riffs. As in, the patterns are diferent.

Oh come on guys. Shadows fall is BLACK METAL. Can't you hear how out of scale they are? J/K, but seriously, they are Metalcore/Thrash, whuch are basically the same fucking thing. The only difference between the two is some slight influence changes: Thrash is influenced by Motorhead, Diamondhead and Venom, or Metallica and Slayer, but those ones took that influence IN the 80s. Now, Metalcore is when the result of 80s and 90s Cross pollinating. IE, influences include Pantera and Machine Head.

It's not metalcore, but they are part of the New Wave of American Heavy Metal, so they're thrown in the same bin as other bands from the NWOAHM such as Lamb of God, Killswitch Engage and Bullet For My Valentine (BFMV is metal-emocore IMO and that sucks). Also not only metal + hardcore make metalcore, groove metal is a heavy part of it, and you can hear the sepultura and pantera influences on Shadows Fall's music.

How is Shadows Fall Metalcore? Outside of their vocalist hardcore style singing, they sound more like Trash Metal than anything else.

this is an incredible performance, but the crowd is full of a bunch of pussies. When I saw Shadows Fall in Calgary 2 weeks ago, there was a huge circle pit and almost everyone within 20 ft of the stage was moshing. These guys fucking threw down, i got to meet 'em too =}

I saw Shadows Fall live this year and they were fucking amazing!! In this video Brian doesn't sound as good as he always does but they are still awesome!
