Sergio Mendes - Where To Now, St. Peter? Lyrics

I took myself a blue canoe
And I floated like a leaf
Dazzling, dancing
Half enchanted
In my Merlin sleep

Crazy was the feeling
Restless were my eyes
Insane they took the paddles
My arms they paralyzed

So where to now St. Peter
If it's true I'm in your hands
I may not be a Christian
But I've done all one man can
I understand I'm on the road
Where all that was is gone
So where to now St. Peter
Show me which road I'm on
Which road I'm on

It took a sweet young foreign gun
This lazy life is short
Something for nothing always ending
With a bad report

Dirty was the daybreak
Sudden was the change
In such a silent place as this

Sometimes the cover version is better than the original "All along the watchtower" written by Bob Dylan...made awesome by Jimi Hendrix....I don't think the original could be improved upon and I've heard several. It's a dreamy song about a soldier dying on the battlefield

Also covered by Ann Wilson (with Elton) I put this rather cool, funky version and her in my "Elton.. covered.." playlist. Thanks for the upload!

Elton John does a great version of this song.

@Claire Blackwelder Correction: Sergio Mendes does a great version of this song.  Elton John originally wrote and recorded it.

Elton John has nothing else good and Sergio Mended made it WAY better!

Disagreed.  Songs like "Candle in The Wind", "Crocodile Rock", "Saturday Night's Alright For Fighting", "I'm Still Standing" are nothing short of classics.  Though admittedly he hasn't made any really memorable songs since the late 1990s.
