Sergio Mendes - For Me (Arrastao) Lyrics
Hey, there's a hum in the air
Hey, every star's in a spin
Hey, something's saying out there
Hey, something's gonna begin
For me
Never at no time was there a night like this
Never at no time was every star so clear
Never at no time has my heart beat so fast
Never at no time was everything so clear
Somewhere there's someone else who feels it too
Something rare and wonderful
Is due
Hey, there's a fire in the sky
Hey, it's a dream you can't buy
Hey, life is coming alive
For me
Never at no time was there a night like this
Never at no time was every star so clear
Never at no time has my heart beat so fast
For me
Never at no time was there a night like this

Sergio Mendes For Me (Arrastao) Comments
I love this song!! They have such a beautiful voice!!!
Poor bass player forgot to plug his Fender Precision in.
I've always admired Lani Hall's beauty and voice, of course. She looks so natural and fresh with no hint of artifice. Before I knew much about her, I used to think she was Latin, which of course she's not. She and Herb Alpert make such a wonderful couple who have stood the test of time and are still together. Two of the most talented people.
Thanks Andyman 58 for posting Brazil `66`s great Bossa Nova music, and the song;"For Me"!.
Where’s the mic?
Lani you so great!
Love the tempo and “feel” changes ... plain good music!
Vocals are LANI and LANI. There is no Janis' voice in this song.
He was hosting the Hollywood Palace. They would have celebrities come host the show and have special guests singers and actors perform.
2019 September thanks!
♪♫ Blindfolded - Bossa Nova by composer Fabio Valente♪♫
Enjoy!!! Thanks 🎼🎼🎼🎸🎸🎶
I ❤ the color scheme & palm trees of this set
Janis hansen's voice heavenly
Karen Philipp?
That's Janis Hansen
are these not the BEST SINGERS you've ever seen in your life ???
Beautiful voices Love it !!!!!!!!
I love this group it’s not forgotten where are they’re now????
Janis passed away many years ago. Cancer. Lani still singing.Still married to Herb.
Quanti ricordi legati alla musica di sergio mendes!!!!
Wonderful. Looks like The Hollywood Palace (the footlights, the sign on the right at the end).
I listened to Sergio Mendez when I was in High School in 66 and loved the rythim and the melodic voices of the ladies
They were awesome. Such a unique sound.
A most amazing, unimaginably beautiful song.
Janis and Lani What a tremendous duo!
That was on the Hollywood Palace variety show (1964-1970). You can see the distinctive set and the placard/billboard with the performer's name beside the stage. Herb Alpert was the host that week. Each show had a different guest host. That was a GREAT show.
What a cool rhythm this song has and the variations in the singing make it a great song to hear timeless really and very nice to hear and enjoy it too.
Nice song and so true. after passing though a lot of problems and frustrations in life we finally find what is right for us and where to head and then our life changes and we become happier and succesful too.
no digital rebmix back then had to be played"live"!
This is actually lip-synced to the recording.
I love Lani Hall !
brazil 66 absoultly wonderful greatest
great video great song!
The Brasil Mama's & Papa's
Beautiful Lani Hall looks like shes 19 years old here
She probably was.
Janis Hansen!
Janis passed away on October 4, 2017.
I love this group. I love Janis Hansen and Lani Hall. But the guy waving the tambourine around would look much better with his head through it. LOL
Angus McFarland dont its tamborine! Its a pandeiro! Hahahhaha
hey lani hall is pretty hot as well.
Amen to that! Herb Alpert must have thought so as well.
Amazing Lani Hall , powerful voice
This is Janis
Let's not forget Janis Hansen! Her voice is just great too. Sergio and the group are just super!
genial Sérgio Mendes ! all he did was better than the original ! , Fool on the Hill better than the Beatles ( much better !) , Bacharach songs better than Bart Bacharach !
Because Burt was good friends with Herb Alpert, who managed Brasil 66 and married Lani Hall.
Emilio Malbrán are you drunk lol
I don't know about that, but this group certainly chose their songs very well, and definitely made a song their own. I grew up with 1960s, 1970s Brasilian music, the polished, like Brasil 66 & 77, and the more pure, raw music. Only as a teenager I found out that these Brasil 66 versions were not the originals. On a trip down memory lane.
Don’t forget Norwegian Wood also from the Beatles which got a whole new life thanks to these folks.
Lani may have had the prettier voice, but Janis was the prettiest all the way.
Sergio picked singers who could in an unbelievable way "sound almost exactly like each other" If they wanted to they could sing so much alike that you could not distinguish them. In the "Look of Love" Janis has the lead and Lani is backing her up but the back up is so close to the sound that Janis is singing that it is like Janis has a machine slightly duplicating her voice. Both GREAT GREAT SINGERS.
Lani's voice is more refined but I love Janis''s haunting voice...This is all Janis with Lani backing...Listen to the video without watching...You are right both great singers with a very wide ranges
Thank you, thank you for the wonderfull video , fantastic musicians...love it
One of my favorite versions of this (under its real name, Arrastao), is the version by The Milton Banana Trio.
You can notice the camera never focused on the drummer( wearing sunglasses!) ,surely
because he was replacing outstanding Joao Palma, who played with bassist Bob Matthews and percussionnist Jose Soares, shown there, all members of the original Brasi'66
This almost all Janis
Don't be fooled by the Video..... this is all Janis with Lani backing........listen don't watch ...This is not Lani's voice
@Wesley Carusos~ Correct!
I love the time changes in this song...And the outfits too!
Since you like this tune, you should check it out under its original Brazilian title, "Arrastao." The original Brazilian lyrics were a lot different from Norman Gimbel's retooled english lyrics - which aren't bad either. On here, recommend Brazilian guitarist Sivuca's version of Arrastao on 1969 television and Flutist Herbie Mann's 1967 cover with a monster arrangement by master orchestrator, Oliver Nelson.
Yes, I get an euphoric rush from the accentuated and dramatic tempo changes in this arrangement ...something that I never felt from any arrangement of Arrastão. This is just beautiful. I think it's classic Sérgio Mendes. I have to disagree with Jim in that these lyrics are so much better than the original Portuguese translation and this arrangement far superb over even Edu Lobo and Vinícius de Moraes' own version. I've listened to this on the Equinox album for decades but this is the first time I've seen this clip. Thanks so much for uploading it.
