His ways are not our own
I was riddled with sadness
He gave me hope
With no expectations of whats to come
Cause he knows you, he knows

I am interested in what works, and what is beautiful,
Let's mix the two and watch it grow"

His ways are not our own
I was a burning mess
Her heart was the road
And no reservations of what wed done
Cause she knows you, she knows

I am interested in what works, and what is beautiful,
Let's mix the two and watch it grow
This house is starting to feel like my home
So let's make it beautiful, let's make it beautiful

I got what's on my list
I marry the two
I got what's on my list
I marry the two
I got what's on my list
I marry the two

I am interested in what works, and what is beautiful,
Let's mix the two and watch it grow
This house is starting to feel like my home
So let's make it beautiful, let's make it beautiful

when i listen to this song, i interpret it like this: first he talks about God's ways are not our own, meaning when we do things our way, we fail, whereas, God has His way in us, and it just works, and it makes everything beautiful, "I am interested in what works, and what is beautiful." He's coming to the acceptance of God's way in his life and not fighting His will. this is what i get from it. would love feedback and hear different interpretations! God bless, love yall!

+Trevor Hudson I interpret it as a man (the singer), trying to chose what his life decisions, or what his life should amount up too, and is asking God to help him make this choice by the "interested in what works, and what is beautiful." he has to chose because what is easiest, and what is best for him. He then meets a girl (or has known), and she helps he out of a slump after he choices what is easiest. After that, he falls in love with her - "this house is starting to feel like my home." And finally he decides that his life should be what is best for him, and what God has chosen for him, and he "mixes the two" and follows her to do his passion, (whatever that my be. In this song it seems like it's implied to be music and singing).

Only a true christian rock band can make you uncertain if a song is about God or a girl. Lol

Quick Question: I heard there were two things being sang during the "I got what's on my list, I married it too" line. What was the other line that was being sang?

  11. S.... ....

You mean it. "I got what's on my list, I married it too."

Zach, the lead singer, spoke about this at a show once. This song was written about his wife. On their wedding day she told him that her and her sister had years ago written a "list" of traits/characteristics of what they wanted in a husband. She then proceeded to tell Zach that she not only got everything on her "list", but she married him too :) The correct lyrics are "I got what's on my list, I married her too."

I think His ways means God's ways and that maybe he was at first living for himself and during that time he was a mess not being able to find the right woman. Eventually he started following Gods ways and found the perfect woman that was everything on his list and was what is beautiful. You need to have a good relationship with God and know how to love Him before you can have a relationship with a woman and love her. Please don't bash this if you don't like it it's just my opinion.

    awesome song.

  15. b.... b....

I think he's talking about finding his wife, and also finding god. The "two" things on his beautiful list.

Nice! Thanks PointedQuill! Makes a lot of sense.

  17. T.... ....

The song may have been in part inspired by the quote: “Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful, or believe to be beautiful”, by William Morris. When I listen, it sounds like he's singing about both the music (no deadlines and no faulty sounds) and the house he's building with his significant other. "Marrying the two" would be to "marry" usefulness ("what works") and beauty. Just a guess...

Sorry there isn't any commentary and I tried searching online but I can't find much on the meaning of this song. The feminine references throw me off :-/

Sweet! So these are the real lyrics! What do you think the lyrics "in what works", "her heart was the rope", and "I'll marry the two"? I thought I knew what the song was about but I'm still a little hazy and would love some clarity if you know or if there's any artist commentary in the insert.

  20. S.... ....

Thank you. I actually got the lyrics from the insert in the Sent By Ravens Our Graceful Words CD. I own the CD so I should really put the rest of the songs up but I've just been so busy hehe
