Emo is a genre of music. I know that it's short for emotional, but the full title for it is "Emotional Hardcore", which means that it's a genre of music that describes bands that have the elements of hardcore, but more abstract lyrics and guitar experimentation. I also just mentioned a couple of bands that have that title. By saying that emo is just short for emotional, you can call Mozart's music or even Tupac's music "emo" since they have emotion in their music.

Emo did start off as a derogatory term, but it later became adopted by the bands that were called "emo" and became a genre of music. Bands that are really considered emo include Rites of Spring and Saetia. Senses Fail is actually post-hardcore, not emo. They're still a good band though.

They put emotion into their music unlike many bands, labeled emo "like AFI and Fallout Boy " (Buddy you rock for saying that at warped tour between songs and talking what music really should be about!!) The band doesn't deny they're an emo band at all.
