Senses Fail - Courage Of The Knife Lyrics

Embrace each day with amazement inhale the sun
Two dying stars reborn as one
My god is a metaphor that transcends time
Much more than paper held in a spine

When you carry a cross, you carry a stone
Set your mind free, let your young heart roam
Walk down unknown roads before you build a home
Follow the stream until you reach the beach
It's all the same book just a different speech

It's all the same book
It's all the same

I believe your god
I believe your god is dead
Wake up, wake up
There is truth in your head
Your god is dead

My heart will see me through
I don't need a crutch nor a fuckin' excuse

We're all searching for something we're searching for love
Regardless of the form we want to bask in the sun
So bury the axe and give up the gun
Courage of the knife but not of the blood

I believe your god
I believe your god is dead
Wake up, wake up
There is truth in your head
Your god is dead

I believe your god
I believe your god is dead
Wake up, wake up
There is truth in your head
Your god is dead

The dust of stars
Collect in our hearts
The dust of stars
Collect in our hearts

I believe your god
I believe your god is dead
Wake up, wake up
There is truth in your head
Your god is dead

I believe your god
I believe your god is dead
I believe your god
Your god is dead

  2. Marco Havok

My favorite song on this album!

  3. big boy viking

Something about this song reminds me of a playground bully, and i dig it

  4. DoubIeRose

Chorus has a cool energetic ring to it but there are some much better songs on Renacer.
This isn't directed at some specific religion, it's about people who blindly accept the religion they were raised with without considering other religions.

Wake up, the song is a metaphor.

    Matthew Steel

yeahh so true like nobody should need to accept any lifestyles if they dont truly want to, marry someone they dont love or follow a religion if its not what they believe in. There are other religions people are born and raised into and follow them just because of that, but Islam is the biggest example.

  5. Karamiehorse

    The courage.

  6. Yamafan1

    Dubois Kenty

I would be interrested in reading this interview where can I find it ?

    Matthew Steel

  8. Evan Rico

Prepare yourself... many a butthurt are coming...

Plain and simple, there is no god. :) now enjoy the music!

  13. Rose

If you don't wanna hear anti Christianity lyrics then simply listen to another genre. No one wants to listen to Christian bullshit. It has no emotion, originality, or soul.

  14. brandonlikesmusic

dude he means god in our minds and heart is dead

  15. oh, bother.

How about we skip religious talk and discuss the music instead?

  16. Patchworkdrum

Every closed-minded religious person is idiotic and deserves to be shamed, that is, unless you're afraid to make fun of anyone other than Christians.

  17. John Zook

As buddy would say, and correct me if I'm wrong here but he would say this " If you don't like it, FUCK YOU"

  18. music?!

I can tell this is gonna be one of those songs that never gets played live, which bums me out because it's fucking fantastic.

  19. Richard restraint

You know what? I'm a Christian and I love this song. It's not just about the lyrics its about the heart and soul of the music the lyrics are just an opinion. God still loves him anyways.

    Tom Holais

To me, this song is for people who take their god too seriously, it is ok to believe in anything, but there is no proof, so people should be chill about it.

    Marco Havok

    Your god is dead!

  20. Danny Bailey

bite to break skin was the start for this album

  21. Danny Bailey

im missing 1 line.... which is walk down unknown roads before you build a home.... but I got the lyrics from the album book

  22. Danny Bailey

don't have room for the rest so posting a new comment on the rest of it

  24. St. Vaughn

Am I really seeing people bitching about Atheism in metal?
    Like
    really?

  25. Trev Bot

inb4 you listen to shit like Escape the Fate... Stupid ass kid.

  26. Scarlet Morbidity

Senses fail has plenty of blasphemous songs. This sudden outrage is hilarious.
I guess the lines "your god is dead" really puts it into perspective for idiots.

  27. Marty Interactions

listening from "bite to break skin" to this really confuses me

  28. Jake Kamphus

Meh, back to Let it Enfold You i guess. This is bogus walmart shelf junk.

  29. Mikey Zamora

So i read the lyrics out of the booklet of the album. He really isnt bashing religion more like his own experience with religion, which is completely understandable since most people that consider themselves religious are complete hypocrites and what he is saying that people need to find there own ways to find a point in like with or without religion.

  30. CityShapesNJ

Wait, older songs. So does that count The Rapture? Or is Still Searching ruined for too?

  31. Danny Siegrist

shut the fuck up everyone with your your opinionated bullshit on how they are offending christianity and God. If God heard this him and Jesus would open up a pit. SENSES FUCKING FAIL BITCHES

  32. Justyn Bomar

It's not cool to bash on Christianity just more and more people are realizing how fucking stupid of a religion it is!
I believe your god, I believe you god is dead! Wake up! Wake up!

  33. hard4texas

Not looking to argue but we don't know that just because he says cross.
A cross is used in many other religions and was used in paganism thousands of years before the Christianity and the Romans adopted it.

  34. hard4texas

You should calm down. You're also assuming this is about Christianity.
I hate people who act like 'God' is exclusive to Western culture, God is an entity assuming there even is one. His name is Jehovah. Not God.

  35. DudeWithTheNose

Yeah, listening to it again I heard the cross part. So know we know he's talking about christianity. It could very well be against Christianity, but I would have to see the lyrics to see if there is another less noticeable meaning.

  36. Scott Lawrence

you can listen here to what he actually has to say about this song. stop wasting your time arguing about it on youtube.

  37. John Zook

Well I'm sure buddy really gives a shit about what you Christians think. He is entitled to an OPINION just like everyone else. So go bitch elsewhere and stop complaining about shit that's way outta your hands.

  38. Art AAsa

    youre god ? really?

  39. PINKILL3R

You Christians need to relax. OBVIOUSLY Jesus rose from the dead, so your offended for NO reason.

  40. Collin Langham

To take into account the album Still Searching he's most defiantly talking about the Christian God. And as a Christian I'm not offended, every man is entitled to his own beliefs and no one has any right to force anything on anyone. I love Buddy his lyrics have helped me in many ways and SF is just expanding their capabilities in music and they are very successful in my opinion so don't get all pissy if it's not like LIEY, that was almost a decade ago, they progressed and Buddy's lyrics in this

  41. 2nicks1cup

I've been a fan since LIEY. I'm just saying as a Christian fan I'm offended by this song. I'm not trying to force my religion down anyones throat, just thought it was offensive. Like I said, I'll still listen to older stuff and some songs on this album, just not this one.

  42. Nick Grenn

I personally am a Christian and I really don't see why everyone is so offended. Just because he says god they immediately point to the Christian God? It could be any religion, and the cross reference isn't necessarily offensive from what I can hear.

  43. Memento Mori

Christians are constantly down everybody's throat, so why can't we get aggressive toward them for once? I'm sure this song is towards the big christian dicks/hypocrites. Not Christians in general.

  44. Christian Harvey

don't get me wrong I love senses fail but do miss buddy's old screams and singing.

  45. JHx573

my god is dead? wait so that means buddy nielsen is dead?

  46. SinxUndead

Um... The Rapture? To just say one clearly written song about atheism. But really they have alot of songs and lyrics like this. It's not Senses Fail just starting to do so.. So just saying, I don't see how you could say their barely doing this -.-

  47. rhilsdorf2291

My mom is currently yelling at me and shes very religious so I started blasting this song and signing along "youre god is dead" hahaha

  48. dingoatemybaby321

yeah dude, u cant now bitch bout SF being anti religious, i mean unless ur jst a spoof bandwagon bitch, cause it seems to me like uve never listened to SF

  49. rUafraid

they've had lyrics in every album about atheism/agnosticism. how have you been a senses fail fan before this, if you even were?

  50. Cody Barber

I think this song is more about how people use their religions to justify their actions. Like muslim extremists and judgemental Christians, stuff like that. There is way too much hypocrisy in religions for me. There is no way any of the big religions have it completely right

  51. Jason Coleman

    Nigga stfu.

  52. 2nicks1cup

Towards the beginning he mentions something about carrying a cross on your back. Can't really tell what the line is without the lyrics...but when crosses are mentioned and then God...I feel like he's talking about Christianity. But regardless like I said, it offends me. It may not offend you or others because you may not be religious.

  53. Loren Hill

how does this song ruin it for you...have you not heard The Rapture from Still Searching yearsss ago? My favorite song bcuz he gets right to the point how silly religion really is

  54. DudeWithTheNose

For example. money is a god to some people.

  55. DudeWithTheNose

what makes you say it's bashing on Christianity? Why not Judaism? Why not Islam? Why not every religion?

You're turning the song into something it's not. The word "god" is also sometimes used out of the context of a powerful diety. Sometimes a god can be something you worship, or an idol. Using the other definitions you can clearly see that this song is not bashing religions at all. I'd have to look at the full lyrics to see what the song is actually trying to say though.

  56. 2nicks1cup

...but I guess it's "cool" to bash on Christianity now a days more than ever. All in all I'll still listen to the older stuff and listen to songs I like on this album...but I've got to say as a religious person and longtime fan, this song really ruins the album from me.

  57. 2nicks1cup

The start of the album blew me away but this song completely ruins it. Okay I get your not a Christian or religious but making the chorus "I believe, I believe your God is dead" and speaking about the cross at the beginning. I've been a fan for a long time and I KNEW Buddy wasn't religious...but this song offends me in the worst way and I can't support this band in buying the album. Just know if he disrespected any other religion (say Muslims) there would be WAY more backlash from fans...
