Selah - Standing On The Promises Lyrics

Standing on the promises of Christ my King,
Through eternal ages let His praises ring.
Glory in the highest I will shout and sing
I'm standing on the promises of God.

Standing on the promises that cannot fail
When the howling storms of doubt and fear assail.
By the living word of God I shall prevail.
I'm standing on the promises of God.

Standing, standing, standing on the promises of God my Savior.
Standing, standing, standing on the promises of God.

What a fellowship, what a joy divine,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.
What a blessedness, what a peace is mine,
Leaning on the everlasting arms.

I'm leaning, leaning
Safe and secure from all alarms.
I'm leaning, I'm leaning, leaning on the everlasting arms

Are you washed in the blood in the soul-cleansing blood of the Lamb?
Are your garments spotless, are the white as snow?
Are you washed in the blood of the lamb?

Yes, I'm standing, standing, standing on the promises of God my Savior.
I'm standing, standing, standing on the promises of God.
Yes, I'm standing, standing?
I'm standing on the promises of God!

Ruined this hymn by making it sound like rock music. Why do musicians have to do this. If people want to listen to rock they can listen to rock music. Christian music is supposed to be conservative that is what makes it different from everything else. I love Selah music but not when they do this and ruin wonderful hymns. And for those who say it is the lyrics that matter that is not true it is the instruments that actually make the body feel what it feels when people listen to it.

+tnttcv Christian Music is many things not just one. God gave us all different gifts to write music, lyrics, in many different ways and be creative with it. If everything was the same all of the time and we only did hymns one way 100% the time, it would be boring. I love hymns many ways. Change is good and keeps people interested, young and old. The music is beautiful and fun. You should loosen up. God encourages people to sing and dance and make a joyful noise for him as he works through those musicians and instruments to get other people to do so as well for HIM.

BTW, it doesn't sound like rock music in the least bit. Its great music.

tnttcv I Think this didn't ruin anything. It is a Great Interpretation of the song and I felt so much Joy when I heard it.The Bible says we should praise the Lord with all Instruments, even drums. God loves diversity. God bless you!

Open up a hymn book and you will find that the lyrics sung in the video is the same as in the hymnal. You are referring to the deteriorating content of so-called "Christian" songs, yet this song has maintained the meaningful lyrics of the hymn.

  24. Christopher Tan

"Secularise" implies the drawing away from religious orientation. In what way does altering the feel and genre while keeping the lyrics the same secularising the hymn? That's to say that the genre of a song determines whether it is secular or not. To me, it is the lyrics and its content that determines that, not the genre.

i believe that all genre that are christian is worship from Christian Rock to Contemporary Christian. i do miss singing in the church choir. it was one of my joys to sing medleys like this.

Well I see things differently. Open up a hymm book from long ago and in it are words that are pure Gospel. Compare those words to the compromising rap and rock dribble that you hear today and so called christians trhat want so hard to sound like the world. NO SIR, I will not compromise Holy Praise in order to appease the world.. Sorry ,won't be selling out here. Enjoy your hip hop and rock.

I have gone to the same church all my life. Honestly, until I was 10 I had no idea that hymns even existed. Don't get me wrong, I love them now. The words bring forth a powerful message. However, times change. Sadly, music isn't just about the words now. I think for Christians to be able to compete with secular songs today is to mimic the "in" style; so that one may be able to enjoy Christ's Word through a preferred musical style. I like everything form "There Is A Fountain," to Christian metal.

  31. Stacy Watford

That's one way to look at it. However, another way to look at it, is that they are taking these old great hymns to a generation of people who otherwise would have never heard them in their original tune or setting. I too am very much concerned about many rockish sounding "praise & worship"; but more so because the lyrics are so shallow. But when they can bring the great theology of these hymns into a contemporary setting I think its a plus.

  32. DeliverTheWord1

I don't understand why we as believers in Christ Jesus have to "secularize" these beautiful old hymms. What is great desire that some belieevers have that we need to sound like the lost worlds so much. Sad that we have such a need to "fit in" with the crowd. They destroyed this precious old hymm. Hope you'all are so glad to be "hip"
