Seger, Bob - Miami Lyrics

They saw the lights on the horizon
Out of the seas it came shinin'
The buildings so high
They seemed to touch the sky
Miami, Oh, Miami

They felt the warm breezes blowing
From off the strange new ocean
They reached the end safe
It was a new day
Miami, Oh, Miami

Oh, it must've seemed
Something from a dream
Shinin' through the night
All those city lights
Staring at the shore
Hungry, tired and worn
Could it really be
Were they really free

And so they came
A hundred thousand
To find a way of life
They could believe in
Far away from home
With nothing of their own
To Miami, Oh Miami

They saw the lights
Miami

  20. m.... ....

This hit from Bob Seger was heard on the Miami Vice episode, Cuba Libre, which aired on January 23, 1987. Miami Vice will always be one of my all time favorite shows. It was the first to combine MTV with police action drama.

  21. W.... S....

Give counting crows song Miami a listen. Different song great feel

  22. S.... B....

Bought this while stationed in Germany in 1986 at the ROCK in Kirchgoens. So many wonderful memories.

  23. G.... Q....

    Good song pretty water

  24. Z.... D....

I heard it on Miami Vice too, the reason I looked it up was because I thought it was Steve Winwood, sounds like him quite a lot, also his style of music a bit and Steve Winwood did do a song or two that was in Miami Vice.

  25. A.... W....

This guy could sing ABC & 123 and I would love listening to him! Absolutely my Favorite !

  26. g.... g....

    OOooooOOOooooooOOhhhhh Miami !!

    g.... g....

I was in the middle of rocking this refrain. I mean really loudly. I was also randomly scanning comments and I saw this.
    Strange, right ?

  27. W.... E....

I love this song about FREEDOM! The Mariel boatlift was reminiscent of the Dunkirk evacuation. People helping to save others across the seas.

  28. J.... R....

I'm surprised this is even here. Bob seger is one of a handful of artist that despise streaming This whole record is great

  29. D.... ....

way to low on the mix turn this MotherF$%^&ER up

  30. R.... D....

    Pure class

  31. R.... C....

    Miami Vice!

  32. C.... R....

    Bring it on Alto

  33. B.... J....

This song is about The Mariel boatlift a mass emigration of Cubans, who traveled from Cuba's Mariel Harbor to the United States between 15 April and 31 October 1980

    B.... J....

I was jubilant when the Cubans were given a chance to free themselves from Fidel Castro. I just never understood why anyone stayed in Cuba.

  34. P.... C....

    I love this song!!

  35. d.... ....

The lyrics are so vague that they could easily be about a bunch of Jewish retirees from New York's garment district.

    d.... ....

Are you numb or what?  You must be related to crooked hildabeast

    d.... ....

Actually if you listen to the lyrics, I am sure he is referring to the Cubans in the late 70's and Early 80's

    d.... ....

    you are a tit.

    d.... ....

How dare you! Clearly, you've never there. I think you need some Jimmy Buffet time. I mean, sometimes I do. Who doesn't? Especially at that time. I was privileged to see steel and brave determination of those first Cuban refugees.
These "caravans " infuriate me. It is all about politics. Back then it was about true survival, opportunity and possiblites for each person and generations to come. The priviledge of becoming American.
Sadly, now its about today's top 1% of the top 1%. Who's going to benefit most? Those people supposedly walking to freedom?
I'd say that whoever's wondering that should just follow the money.

  36. M.... F....

saw the man perform twice in 1 weekend raised a child and still in love with the world

nice song. difficult to find HQ version

  41. h.... ....

WTBS used this in the 86 as the outro music between innings of Braves games.

  42. r.... g....

What a great song. When this was released, I was a pharmaceutical rep travelling five states and during my many night time drives through Montana, Idaho and Wa. this would be blasting from the cassette deck of my company car which I was told not to install, through the 6X9 coaxials, which I was told not to install. Gee, do I obey company policy or do I obey the call of Bob Seger? Shit, it wasn't an issue...

    r.... g....

robert glenn this whole album is great. Came out in '86. Called Like A Rock.

    r.... g....

    robert glenn
Sorry mate wrote in the wrong area.

  43. G.... D....

I listened to this song for the first time in 1987 - Miami Vice - Season 3 - Episode 14 (Cuba Libre). It is played in the beginning of the episode showing different views of Miami by helicopter!

    G.... D....

@Gilberto Dias I've just watched a replay of that episode on TV...that's how I ended up here. :)

    j.... f....

    j.... f....

jayme fleming buy the cd on eBay for 3 bucks

  47. g.... ....

The Cubans of 1959 were business people, the Cubans of 1980 were criminals.

    g.... ....

Now that right there is what's wrong with America! You insulted a whole country because of the acts of a few. It's called bigotry! By your way of thinking, I guess in the 2000's all Americans are mass murderers!!!!!

  48. h.... ....

yeah, Bob Seger in the silver bullit band, yeahh im bob seger and im from Ann Arbor Mich, yah, we hold the rock and roll period.

  49. T.... ....

  51. C.... L....

what a gem. was just spinning some old vinyl, had forgotten this one...

  52. j.... r....

cuban refugess fleeing cuba in the early 80s thats where movies such as scare face and tv shows like miami vice came from .

  53. L.... k....

I have only heard this tune one other time which was back in 87. When I saw him perform it live at McNichols Sports Arena in Denver.

  54. m.... ....

I didn't even remember this episode let along the song. I lived in Miami since the early 80s and never heard it here considering the large Cuban community you would think they would of played this song to death. I just found out in IMDB.com that this song was not listed in the credits.

  55. m.... ....

Hi, this related to the Mariel refugees that arrived from Cuba in 1980, just over 100,000 people fled Cuba and arrived in boats to Miami.

    m.... ....

Absolutely, I was there. my dad brought people over and lost his boat bc carter changed the policy during the boat lift. Bitter sweet memories. I saw my dad's boat barely floating as they arrived in the harbor,. The people arriving were scared and grateful to be alive and free. The song beautifully tells the story of how it must have felt to be free. Theere are no words to describe the emotions. ..so much more than Miami vice!

  56. S.... C....

Another great song by the best rock singer ever!!

  57. 1.... ....

    Loved this on Miami Vice!

  58. M.... ....

Great to hear don Henley and Timothy b.Schmidt in backing vocals. Just goes to show how high this guy (genius) is rated by his peers. Legend!

  59. r.... ....

It is about the Cuban refugee.

  60. h.... ....

Can any one tell me, is it about the starting of Miami in the 1920 and 1930´s. Or is it about Cuban People coming to Miami to start over ?

  61. m.... ....

Great to hear this on You Tube again! thanks.

    m.... ....

I dont recall ever hearing this song. Thank you. I love it

    m.... ....
