Seekers, The This Train Comments
  1. s.... d....

In many ways, Woodie Guthrie is where it all starts. He was Dylan before Dylan.

  2. R.... F....

I remember when I was maybe 10 years old early 7960's it was. My older brother who was 9 years older than me brought home an FM radio. He tunes the dial on the AM radio on WRR (yeah Dallas Texas), and does the same on the new FM radio. The first time I ever heard stereo. It was WOW!

  3. D.... R....

The guy in the red shirt looks like Robbie Douglas from my three sons.

  4. G.... H....

Durries, black coffee and the Seekers. Awesome stuff.

  5. J.... B....

If there were 10 men in that group Judith's voice would still dominate.

  6. X.... Q....

to spanish studs in Spain a total inspiration their records....back to those wonderful pop music days

  7. G.... S....

This must be from their cruise ship days.

  8. S.... B....

I meant to add, all of them.

  9. S.... B....

    Destined for greatness.

  10. r.... w....

    Way better than "rap"...THE SEEKERS!!

  11. r.... ....

Nowadays, it's absolutely unlikely to see, in any tv show, so many people that smoke. Knowing how Judith lives her life as healthy as possible, I can't imagine she ever smoked. So, performing in front of so many smokers, that must have been terrible for her, and most likely for the boys as well.

  12. t.... l....

What I like most is we get to hear all 4 members sing, not just Judith(whom I love).Great song all 4 members talented.

  13. M.... W....

Ah Nostalgia isn't what it used to be. Thank God I was born when I was.

  14. 2.... ....

    Elizabeth Conley sent me here

  15. s.... ....

lovely song, interesting with solos from the boys - never heard them do solos before. One question - where's the drummer?

    s.... ....

There weren't any for the original performance, this video was a re-staging of it 5 years later. To make it even more complicated, I've replaced the mono audio with a stereo version created in 1969 by group member Keith by adding extra percussion & harmonies.

  17. T.... ....

"This Train's" about due to arrive and go on back home ...

  18. V.... C....

    So much smoking!!!! Yikes!!

  19. T.... M....

I agree with everyone's comments.  I can't imagine being in that audience and witnessing music history right in front of me.  I'd get goosebumps and tears.  For some reason, this song reminds me of "Rider" by The Big Three (with Cass Elliot).  Amazing similarities!

  20. S.... ....

    Country music ?

  21. D.... H....

Amazing! Drums and tambourine sounds but none present! Wow!

  22. R.... ....

Extra credit for not gagging while singing, with all that smoke!

  23. v.... ....

No way could a bunch of White kids sing a Negro Spiritual song in 2019!  The SJW's would go to town on all the ''wrong things'' about this scenario.   Lord Jesus God how I HATE the way Western Culture has gone to rot!!

  24. R.... T....

Great video and this group is so much better than a bunch of the more publicized ones and that Judith is such a pure clear voice and is truly one of a kind. When she sings Danny Boy if it doesn't bring a tear to your eye check your heart cause you might be dead~!!

  25. A.... ....

Ahhh the good old days when smokers werent social outcasts and the bane of existence

  26. B.... ....

Judith is and will always be such a beautiful woman!

  27. i.... ....

    cigarettes...So sophisticated!

  28. p.... ....

I once heard Judith Durham get into head voice. She preferred the earthy warmth of her big lower register, and she loved the folk sound most of all. It was on a version of "Five Hundred Miles", where she sang a descant over the top. Let me tell you, that woman could have been an operatic dramatic soprano, and she'd have nailed them to their seats at Convent Garden or Carnegie Hall or La Scala. I wish I could have heard her sing any of the great arias. Selfish of me, because with that talent she gets to sing whatever she wants, and I'll listen with deep gratitude. But still...

  29. i.... ....

The geezer with the glasses is a real oddball

  30. T.... A....

Just the best!! The very best !!!

  31. P.... P....

the Superb Seekers!! Had never seen each of them take a solo part in one song before, was really nice to see!!

  32. S.... E....

I wouldn’t have a seat on this train, unfortunately.

    S.... E....

Contrary to popular opinion, there will be another train coming, eventually. https://reforminghell.com/tag/george-sarris/ But it's far better to catch the first train.

  33. n.... ....

The Seekers' music will never die. True Australian icons and living legends!

  34. T.... M....

GREAT EARLY VIDEO.GLAD IT IS ON THIS TRACK

  35. B.... L....

Can’t believe they chose to sing with so many dirty smokers so close by. Thank god we are more enlightened today

    B.... L....

    Absolutely disgusting habit.

  36. P.... W....

dont get too exited its another put up mime job.

    P.... W....

If you bothered to read the blurb at the top of the page, you'd know that The Seekers RE-CREATED this clip (set in 1962/63) for a much later (1967/68) Seekers TV special. It was never intended to be a real live performance.

  37. J.... G....

    Enjoyable Emotions.Exceptionally good voice

  38. M.... S....

Check out Mary Lou by the Creative Force, amazing

  39. M.... S....

Check out Mary Lou by the Creative Force amazing

  40. c.... ....

I'm always happy to see tracks like this that show off the vocal skills of the fellas. Everyone knows of Judith's vocal talents, but the gentlemen were excellent singers and songs like this demonstrates that fact quite well.

    c.... ....

I fully agree, most people talk about the voice of Judith, ofcourse, she HAS a great voice, but that voice was also high-lighted because of what the men put up in the back of her, their close harmony belongs to the best I have ever heared!!

  41. G.... V....

They were one of the great groups of the 1960s.

  42. K.... W....

Judith s voice can melt bricks....

  43. H.... E....

The man on the bass fiddle looks like George Reeves the old TV Superman....Hal

  44. o.... ....

This recording of "This Train" Rich is absolutely amazing. The 3 Lads lift Judith's voice to the heavens !!!!!

    o.... ....

Thanks - it was difficult to match to the video as it had a different tempo, but worth the effort I think. There are several of these 'Rare early stereo recordings' on my channel, all from a 1969 LP which hasn't been released on CD.

  45. A.... B....

great crowd....not.Get up for god sake...

  46. a.... ....

Would love to see the clip with the actual audio from the event. The studio soundtrack used here might have a richer sound than the real thing, but I would appreciate the rawness of the live performance.

    a.... ....

    artistjoh it sounds live?

  47. C.... ....

Oh. My. God. I am in love. With Judith. With the Boys. With this Performance. Thank you so much for uploading this

  48. y.... L....

Was this recorded at the Treble Clef coffee shop In South Yarra, used to live on Punt Rd but never had any money to go there, instead went to the Acorn in Hawthorn with my folk singing mates Max & Alex the latter played rhythm on Beegees recordings, so many coffee shops in Melbourne & so many folk singers got their start early 60s

  49. w.... ....

That song is full on Gospel, but I hope they live as they sing. God wants a holy people, we need to stay "on the train" and choose to live obedient to Him and His Word. Jesus is Lord!

    w.... ....

We're here for the music, not your f%^&*#g sermon!

  50. S.... S....

Love them- but no patch on Sister Rosetta !

  51. G.... H....

Back when smoking was cool instead of pathetic.

  52. J.... B....

I would like to see some rock groups go out on stage with nothing but acoustic instruments and unamplified voices
and no visual gimmicks and special effects and see what they can do.

  53. S.... T....

The female cigarette smoker is rude. 2nd hand smoke will ruin a signer's voice just as if Judith smoked herself.

    S.... T....

Nothing wrong with Judith's voice & she was their ,

  54. f.... ....

    So much black coffee...

  55. D.... R....

    Judith Durham, oh my...

  56. R.... D....

    One idiot girl smoking...

  57. J.... L....

Such beautiful harmonies and vocals. By far, The Seekers are the best folk group!

  58. L.... E....

The people in the audience if they didn't know then but knew later how lucky they were to be able to sit in on this performance.

  59. S.... H....

The guy on the snare must have been in the other room!

    S.... H....

    And the tambourine guy

    S.... H....

And the ones doing the intro! 😂

  60. M.... ....

    dam lots of smokers then,

  61. T.... A....

What a beauty she is and what a voice to go with that beauty !!!!!

    T.... A....

    One gorgeous lady! Stunning...

  62. b.... ....

OMG-sounds like something from the Westlyan Center when I was in college. Am I that old?

  63. c.... ....

    Goose Bumps

  64. P.... C....

Great clip, never seen it before, great vocals as usual

  65. G.... M....

Hope I am on that train! When you see this you realise what amazing musicians those men were.

    G.... M....

You said it Genie! Every one of them were excellent musicians! Judith has more than proved herself! She arranged 'Northern Lights'. Give that a try!

  66. R.... M....

    thankss again.

  67. A.... T....

Look at that cigarette smoke pluming into the air . Good song though , but its a wonder theyre not coughing .

    A.... T....

Anne Boleyn yes smokers are so disgusting

    A.... T....

The coughing only starts much later, usually after half a century of puffing away...

  68. M.... B....

When smoking was fashionable, & "glamorous" !!

    M.... B....

Gross! The one thing that is better now than the 60's...

    M.... B....

VICTOR LANGFORD - 9 out of 10 Medical doctors recommend Marlboro’s!

  69. r.... ....

One can like or dislike their music, but the atmosphere is wonderfully homely.

  70. a.... ....

"This train is built for a speed-dial"?

  71. R.... L....

@The Seekers started performing many years back and they will always perform in the heart and mind of we the fans all over the world as we fondly remember them every single time. You're timeless O Seekers.

  72. L.... ....

This is an overdub from the original record. In the original film at 1:40, Keith sings "This train don't carry no hustlers/Good time women or midnight rustlers".

    L.... ....

("Good-time Gals") Yes, to produce an interesting alternative stereo clip, I used the audio from the LP.

  73. s.... ....

Cough, cough from cigarette smoke! lol!

    s.... ....

Cigarettes were at least the same quality as any fine cigar, aromatic and beautiful, unfortunately the mass production of tobacco has come to include every scrap and added “ingredients” that now smokes really stink.

    s.... ....

@Unicorn 1 yeh, especially the original toasted "Luckies". Divine, Turkish & American blend.. Nowadays the only decent organic fragrant baccy is found on the DNMV. And being tax free much cheaper. The stuff found in taxed OTC sales is imported mostly from Zimbabwe and fumigated with Ethylene Oxide which results in considerably more toxic compound that smells rank.

  74. G.... I....

Andy Griffith does a great version of this song

  75. L.... Z....

All those smokers, never happen today

  76. K.... M....

    great year for folk music

  77. J.... B....

    Smokers! What the!!

  78. G.... B....

Rich, I’m so grateful to you in compiling this fabulous and historic collection. Well done.

    G.... B....

    Thank you :-)

  79. O.... p....

I find it frustrating that Judith Durham has so much passion, and Bruce Woodley isn't so bad, but Athol Guy and Keith Potger sound bland. Listen to the soulful early versions of this song , which they must have heard, and they should have put more oomph into it.

    O.... p....

Own private I dunno the boys were more suited to sing backup harmonies it just shows how extraordinary her voice was

  80. m.... b....

Thanks for loading this pearl. A real country with Judith's unique voice!

  81. P.... W....

Rich963 Thank you for all your doing to keep The Seekers heard. Much of what I can enjoy thanks to utube and you. Hope you will surprise me with more of this wonderful music. May you have a Wonderful Christmas 2017

  82. G.... F....

  87. R.... H....

Oh my goodness, its been 20 years since I heard this tune!

  88. J.... B....

    Wow, some performance!

  89. J.... H....

Another great from Judith and the Seekers, sounds like they are all making steam.

  90. 7.... ....

    i like trains

  91. 7.... ....

Rich - thanks always for your good work.

Don't you find something ironic in posting a "rare" recording on youtube, which posting immediately removes any rare characteristic about subject recording?
    Curmudgeonly yours....

    7.... ....

    Well I didn't... until now!

  92. X.... Q....

people love Seekers in South Africa now and then ...TURN TURN TURN ...from Winelands Boland

  93. S.... ....

Gee I wish Judith would ahve married me in 1969. If only I would have proposed. Who knows what she would have said. But I was chicken.

  94. A.... H....

The fellow in the blue jacket is explaining how they're recording this without mics.

  95. .... ....

Why so many people smoking there?

    .... ....

    Different era.

  96. B.... ....

    Sounds like Gospel.

    B.... ....

    LOL> What gave it away?

  97. c.... l....

enjoy riding the seeker train any time! love judy and the boys.
