Seekers, The - Puff The Magic Dragon Lyrics
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee
Little Jackie Paper loved that rascal Puff
And brought him strings and sealing wax and other fancy stuff, oh
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee
Together they would travel on a boat with billowed sail
Jackie kept a lookout perched on Puff's gigantic tail
Noble kings and princes would bow whene'er they came
Pirate ships would lower their flags when Puff roared out his name, oh
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee
A dragon lives forever but not so little boys
Painted rings and giant wings make way for other toys
Then one gray night it happened, Jackie Paper came no more
And Puff that mighty dragon, he ceased his fearless roar
His head was bent in sorrow, green scales fell like rain
Puff no longer went to play along the cherry lane
Without his life-long friend, Puff could not be brave
So Puff that mighty dragon sadly slipped into his cave, oh
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee
Puff, the magic dragon lived by the sea
And frolicked in the autumn mist in a land called Honah Lee

Seekers, The Puff The Magic Dragon Comments
peerless talent timeless really methinks
Ms. Durham, with all due respects, have you ever considered doing Puff the Magic Dragon with Peter Yarrow and Paul Stookey since Mary Travers has passed away? If this inappropriate to ask I sincerely apologize.
Judith has a great solo voice, but Bruce Woodley doesn't do too badly either.
Fantastic listening
It's aways great when you can get a live audience to sing along to this.
Remember singing this at School what memories.
@DjMountainMan22 To clarify, the lyrics were indeed based on Leonard Lipton's poem, but Peter Yarrow wrote the music and adapted/added lyrics. They each get 50% of the royalties.
I love Peter, Paul and Mary---but The Seekers are in a class by themselves!
What a great song, nod I love The Seekers' adaptation. Bravissimo!
Loved this my whole life and never knew PPM did not write it. The lyrics for "Puff, the Magic Dragon" were based on a 1959 poem by Leonard Lipton, a 19-year-old Cornell University student.[1] Lipton was inspired by an Ogden Nash poem titled "Custard the Dragon", about a "realio, trulio little pet dragon."
Did they record any other sings in which each of them had a solo?
Yes, the song "This Train" which you can see here on youtube from their TV show "The World of The Seekers".
What a nice version.
@iowa61 Ah, well that makes sense. Thank you for clarifying that for me.
@MarvelettesDude2 They did not. It was of course a Peter Paul and Mary song. Judith explains it "wouldn't be right" for the Seekers to record it anymore than asking PPM to do "Georgy Girl." But it seems they succumbed to popular demand. And the result is this wonderful gem...
Did they make a recording of this song back in the day? Or was this just something did in the later days? Do you know?
