Seekers, The - Four Strong Winds Lyrics

Think I'll go out to Alberta
Weather's good there in the fall
I got some friends that I could go working for
Still I wish you'd change your mind if I asked you one more time
But we've been through this a hundred times or more

Four strong winds that blow lonely
Seven seas that run high
All those things that don't change
Come what may
If the good times are all gone
The I'm bound for moving on
I'll look for you if I'm ever back this way

If I get there before the snow flies and if things are looking good
You could meet me if I send you down the fare
But by then it would be winter
Not too much for you to do
And those winds sure can get cold way out there

The good times are all gone
So I'm bound for moving on
I'll look for you if I'm ever back this way

Still I wish you'd change your mind
If I asked you one more time
But we've been through that a hundred times or more

Seekers, The Four Strong Winds Comments
  1. W.... M....

I love her eyes and smile , and what a beautiful nature .....

  2. .... ....

    Happy New Year 2020
    God bless Australia.
Greetings from S.Korea street person. Letter from S.Korea.

  3. j.... p....

"come what mayyy" - is that slightly flat?

  4. w.... ....

This is how you sing this song.... Wonderful.

  5. S.... ....

Working at CWC (Sebring) from 68 to 74 this was a standard for the fair well camp fire song. Not too many dry eyes during this one. When the big Trailways busses pulled in on Sunday morning this song was always an impromptu song along. Now 45 years later Winding Creek isn’t even a camp anymore. People that meant so much to me back then have been out of touch forever but this song brings things to memory like it was yesterday.

  6. e.... c....

Just beautiful. What can I say but just proud to be part of the generation that produced music like this.

  7. W.... M....

I love your Aussie eyes ! I'm running out of compliments on your voice , it's simply the best I've ever heard in my 74 years ..... am I too old for you Judith ? ha, ha,

  8. K.... G....

This is my favorite version of the many versions of Four Strong Winds. I love the voice harmonics of the Seekers.

    K.... G....

It's excellent - but try the version by The Islanders which I think is even better.

  9. R.... D....

Still holds up...also try Bobby Bares version

  10. L.... 3....

The finest vocals ever , love Judith

  11. S.... B....

Unmistakably Seekers. Brilliant and inspired group. Great lead, perfect musicianship and inspired harmony which make The Seekers the greatest folk group of all time.

  12. P.... d....

I love the Seekers, but why is he choking Judith?

  13. w.... s....

Aussies doing a great job of singing a Western Canadian's song! The great Ian Tyson wrote and sang this song into a hit! It's arguable whether the Seekers sang this better then Tyson! I'm sure he was thrilled when a great group like the Seekers covered this song!

  14. j.... ....

None better than the wonderful “seekers “ thanks for years of wonderful listening,,,

  15. R.... S....

Georgie Girl was to commercial, it didn't wash with times, they were typecast, from that point on. A really good group of people.

  16. J.... J....

I agree with all that is said about the Seekers (The New Seekers I believe became their name), but their Guitars are fabulous! so Resonate. I agree that this group was totally underrated.

  17. c.... ....

Good version of this great Ian & Sylvia song, but I still really like the Neil Young & Emmylou Harris concert version, at https://youtu.be/DP9UjLeLN5A   Just so many guitars, it’s amazing.  Interesting aside: Ian wrote "Four Strong Winds"; Sylvia wrote "You were on my Mind" made famous by We Five. Two great songs by a great Canadian folk duo.

  18. H.... ....

Have always loved this song written by Ian Tyson of Ian & Sylvia fame. I'm sure that Ian & Sylvia and the Seekers must have met at one point in their early careers.

  19. B.... H....

i like just about everything the Seekers do, and I am a big J. Durham fan. Nevertheless, the best rendition of this classic imo is https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M10lwUDzoYA the Brothers Four. But choose what you like of course.

  20. C.... B....

Wonderful. I haven't heard this version before, & how superb it is. But did the Seekers ever do anything less than superb ? I don't think so.

  21. M.... S....

A singing group that remains together so well- what is the binding force?. You're great.

  22. l.... A....

I have just discovered how much music this lady and her group have made for us.
In America, only Georgie Girl and one or two others were on the radio in those times.
    Amazing and wonderful.

About 9 months ago for me also; I was listening to Hayley Westenra from New Zealand a lot. I fell in love with her and her music about 2 years ago. Then "I'll Never Find Another You" popped up one night. I played it a few times and thought it was pretty good, and didn't think too much more about it at the time. Then after it popped up a few more times, and I played it several times again, I fell in love with it and Judith Durham and The Seekers! I think I played it over and over again for over an hour. It had about 14 million views at that time and it has jumped to 22 million views in such a short time. Unbelievable! Since then I have fallen in love with all their songs and videos and play them over and over. I agree whole-heartedly with all the rave reviews I read about Judith and The Seekers. Amazing and wonderful also.

  23. J.... M....

First time I've heard this version. Very good.

  24. s.... h....

I love this version so much.

  25. m.... b....

A wonderful song I never heard before, incredible performance by The Seekers ! This is by far the best version ever

  26. A.... L....

Love the Seekers as much now as I did 50 years ago.

  27. V.... S....

The four winds were bound at the river euphrates, until Obama!

  28. G.... R....

I absolutely love everything I ever heard by the Seekers. Judy Furham has one of the most beautiful female vocalist's voices EVER.

    G.... R....

Judy Durham is pretty good, too. :)

    G.... R....

    @John E
    SO DOES
    JUDITH DURHAM !!

  29. N.... C....

  38. C.... B....

Judith Durham: Lord... what a talent...

    C.... B....

for sure, but also all others !

    C.... B....

    She LOVES Jesus very much.

  39. W.... 0....

This "moving on" was a very bad idea! When you 4 took to the stage at the Meyer Music Bowl the crowd erupted in tumultuous applause - Why, oh why, "Move on"???? When you left we lost something very SPECIAL!

  40. b.... ....

Ian Tyson was a rodeo rider from Canada who traveled constantly. At one time he broke his leg and was confined to bed. To help pass the time he learned to play the guitar and found he had a talent for music. The rest is, as they say, history.

  41. s.... ....

"The good times are all gone /
So I'm bound for moving on"

  42. D.... S....

Thanks for uploading these wonderful songs.

  43. s.... ....

This is an outstanding song by the great Ian Tyson, preformed by such a great group.
    Very under appreciated.

    s.... ....

I saw Ian and Sylvia at the 1st Atlanta Pop Festival; they really din't fit with Janis, Joe, Creedence, Zep, and all the other rockers. But they were great and were a respite from all the exuberance. Their band was understated.

  44. d.... ....

    Thanks.

  45. F.... ....

Brings back childhood memories long forgotten. Thank you 😄

  46. S.... J....

    hope those
strong winds blow those dislikes away

    S.... J....

I wish they would specify what they don't like about it. Great song, nicely performed.

  47. .... ....

    Very Nice!!
    Thanks!

  48. J.... H....

    Beautiful!!!

  49. R.... M....

Melody  ,,!   I  missed  you ...  I  Think  the  Seekers  are  Outstanding,,  Judith,   has  the  voile  &  range  of  an  Angel  ...

  50. J.... E....

I did not know this was the first song Ian Tyson wrote. Procol Harum's first song, "Whiter Shade of Pale," is their best, as well. I do not know if "Gentle on My Mind" was Hartford's first song, but it was one of his early efforts. I wonder how many writers start out with something really great and then work their entire career to try to equal it.

    J.... E....

+John E ...The first song Jesse Winchester ever wrote was The Brand New Tennesee Waltz written when he was just 16!

    J.... E....

thank you for the beautiful music judith durham&the seekers

  51. R.... W....

One of the most under appreciated groups of all time.

    R.... W....

+Oswald: they were way better than the Abba: however the Abba had worldwidly far more success.

    R.... W....

@marco brenni that's coz of the mass medium of communication in the 80's/90's??

    R.... W....

    @Catherine Murphy : that's that!

    R.... W....

They aren't under appreciated at all. They were HUGE back in the 60s. They are probably in the top 10 groups of all time and in the top three folk groups. (The Kingston Trio and Peter, Paul, and Mary are the only ones that come to mind that were more popular.)

  52. c.... ....

Who is doing the lead vocal here?

    c.... ....

    Bruce Woodley.

  53. R.... W....

This is great ... but I still like Neil Young's version best.  I think it's the way he uses his guitar for this that sets it apart for me.
And yet I still love this version.

    R.... W....

Ya know, music this beautiful should not be subjected to the low mentality competitive nonsense of the 21st century. Human beings used to be able to appreciate music and all art, and the artists who gave them to us, without competition. <---That's just NUTS.

  54. F.... G....

I feel kind of sad every time I listen to this song. Tyson certainly knew how to capture our emotion when he penned the lyrics...

    F.... G....

    absolutely

  55. J.... M....

This is one of the reasons I'm a folkie.

    J.... M....

    agreed!

  56. r.... ....

Which one of the guys is singing lead on this?  I've never learned to recognize any of their voices except Judith's.

    r.... ....

    @*****
    Thanks

    r.... ....

+rorkesdrift42 the lead singer is Bruce Woodley

    r.... ....

    +dave mellet Thank You.

  57. R.... ....

I could listen to their music all day long.
As a matter of fact-I have.

  58. d.... ....

Judith: A wonderful gift from Mother Nature.

    Thanks for posting.

    d.... ....

    dick12235 nanamouskery try to remember

  59. r.... ....

This is the first song Ian Tyson ever wrote - how do you beat that?

He is still writing fine music today with that hope.

    r.... ....

There are several examples of a composers doing their best work early in their careers. John Hartford never topped "Gentle on My Mind," and Procol Harum never topped "Whiter Shade of Pale."

  60. .... ....

    Thanks !!
    I like The Seekers.
