Sedaka, Neil - Love In The Shadows Lyrics

In the shadows, you've got to know your lover mostly by feel
You've got to put your faith in things you can touch
If you dare to

Cos the shadows, can make you crazy with the things they reveal
They show it all without revealing too much
Scare the hell out of you

Cos me and my love, live among the shadows
Where the old playground is an alley way
Now me and my love, make love among the shadows
When the sun goes down, in a dark hallway
Love in the shadows where the crowd never goes
Deep in the shadows where flowers won't grow
Me and my baby know, love in the shadows

In the shadows, you've got to work at love to get it to shine
You can't believe in everything that you see
Not this time around

Cos the shadows, can play a half a million tricks on your mind
You try your best but you can never be free
It just kinda drags you down

Cos me and my love, live among the shadows
Where the old playground is an alley way
Now me and my love, make love among the shadows
When the sun goes down, in a dark hallway
Love in the shadows where the crowd never goes
Deep in the shadows where flowers won't grow
Me and my baby know, love in the shadows

  2. shamrock1961

Excellent song writer and performer. TALENTED with a capital "T"!!!

  3. Stuart Senften

This song is about Neil being a Gay Closet Case..He never came out..did he?

  4. rcperry2000

The Captain & Tennille did a version of this song on their TV show. It's an extra on their DVD box set. I like Neil's better but they did a good job

  5. Don Crabbe

I bought the single, first; loved it, so, I purchased the album.(good thing, since the title tune, never, came to Canada, as a 45-as far as I know. I, also, was an EJ fanATIC, at the time. I, obviously, yes, loved the t.t.)I do not think think there is a weak cut, on the LP!

  6. Randall Terry

    I remember this song. I was 14.

NICE FLOWING SONG , PUTS YOU IN A HAPPY MOOD! Legendary composer, singer. NEIL SEDAKA may your music live on forever!

  8. Gb Crowne

My brother had this LP, he bought it for Stepping Out, I think. I was around 5 or 6 at the time, and this was my favorite song from the record! A true gem! 💜

4 got about this song, till I was thinking of this singer, and then from nowhere I was thinking there was a song called love in the shadows, loli love this song

~ Great dance record, was hot in New Orleans and Chicago in 1976. Really got lost in the shuffle with all the classics that came out that year. Still, we use 2 promo 7" singles to mix live and extend. This could use a dance remix even in 2018, still fresh and kinda festive. Cheers, DAVEDJ ~

Man oh man Neil, dump the disco beat, keep the lead guitar and continue to sing like you do on this track and Neil you could do it again for the third time. I like that you got gritty toward the end and had a more edgy tone. Grow a beard and pound that piano like you can do.

"Solitaire" by the way is one of the best songs ever written. Covered by many artists but I always liked Elvis Presley's and Jane Oliver's. Theirs had a special warmth.

  12. Rhonda Hancock

one of my faves it got lots of air play in alabama

This song's got some substance to it. I wish Neil could do an updated remake of this song.

    sandinyourshoes

No. It is perfect as it is.

  14. David DeCouto

Always loved this song, and dammit! -- I'm not afraid to admit to it. lol I can still see the green Rocket Record logo going in circles as this played.

    JimcDJ1

David DeCouto--I'm right with you. Always thought this was a damn good song, and I didn't care who heard me say it!

    Sarah Mages

Maybe Art Roberts was having an affair!! (just kidding).

    Mary Noble

Hey, David DeCouto, I found myself just now singing the chorus with no clue who wrote or sang it. I love how easy it is to get relief from ear worms by finding old tunes and dragging them into this century. Ta~

    mike sutton

    sandinyourshoes

David DeCouto , why mention fear of liking it?
