Seals, Dan - Big Wheels In The Moonlight Lyrics

I came from a town that was so small
You look both ways, you could see it all
All I wanted was some way out
Every evening I'd slip into town

And stand around by the caution light
And watch the big trucks rolling by
For me it was a beautiful sight
Big wheels in the moonlight

I had a case of wanderlust
I'd lie awake with the windows up
Out on Highway Fifty Nine
I could hear some big old diesel whine

She was going through all the gears
And headed out to who knows where
I fell asleep 'most every night
Dreaming about big wheels in the moonlight

And I want to put my life on the centerline
And I want to see the world before I die
And I know that there's a peace I'll never find
'Cause those big old wheels keep rolling through my mind

How I got here, it's hard to say
So many things got in my way
Can't complain about all I've got
Kids and a wife and a regular job

But at night when I'm sitting here
All alone in a living room chair
Sometimes I close my eyes
And see big wheels in the moonlight

And I want to put my life on the centerline
And I want to see the world before I die
And I know that there's a peace I'll never find
'Cause those big old wheels keep rolling through my mind

And I want to put my life on the centerline
And I want to see the world before I die
And I know that there's a peace I'll never find
'Cause those big old wheels keep rolling through my mind

'Cause those big old wheels keep rolling through my mind

My life of trucking . I grew-up hearing trucks jake braking down Hwy 160 west of Durango, Colorado. My father drove local in Denver during my teen years and I would ride from time to time. I was off to Navy at 18 and ended up becoming a professional truck driver at 23 years of age. I drove trucks my whole life . My first farm truck was my Grand Fathers  1947 Chevy 1 ton - flat bed that I was driving at age of 8 yrs old .

Loved this song all while growing up, and I got to do it too. My wanderlust led me through many jobs, including driving a truck, and I did get to see the world.

That piece I never found, that I'm working so hard on now, was the wife and kids.

This song came up in a memorial video made for my great uncle who's funeral we were able to attend and it makes me tear up and sing along each time I hear it. Family means everything to me and it sucks that I would put my life on the center line for them but most would not for me. Only my immediate family would, maybe. Much love to my grandparents in heaven and my great uncle Clinton!
