Great song. When Roe v Wade became law by judicial fiat I thought that Congress would quickly act to restore the Right to Life to preborn babies. Sadly, after all these years, we're still waiting for Congress to do the right thing.

I was a kid watching them when they debuted this on a late night talk show. Amazing they had the guts to release it. They're such a big part of the 70s. What talents!

It is much more of a sin to bring an unwanted child into this world than it is to have an abortion as horrible as that is. I was physical and emotionally abused by my father. He had 3 more unwanted children because he was an insane catholic. You are all being selfish thinking only of yourself. I was in therapy from age 6 to age 60 when I found a great therapist who ran the Holocaust survivals center. she said that i was the 2nd most traumatized patient she had ever had but cured me in only 7 months. there is so much more that I could write about what I and my siblings endured. I had a suicide attempt when I was 15 and had 24 shock treatments. So my advice to you people is to stop thinking only of yourself and think about the life that an unwanted child has to face.

I listened to Seals and Croft practically daily back in the 70's-never heard this song or the story of the courage and sacrifice these 2 fine musicians held to in doing what was right. God bless them for doing what was hard. I am just sorry that the pubic didn't hear this wisdom-it would have helped many girls and women understand there is other options that uphold the life of their babies as well as their own precious lives. My first wife and I weren't supposed to have children, so we adopted, and as so often happens a few months later she's pregnant, then a few years later she's pregnant again. I lost her to cancer in '81. I remarried in '85 (today, btw, is our 33rd anniversary) and though she was on the pill SHE got pregnant, and still using BC 4 months later she was pregnant again! Time for the clip-clip dammit, I had super sperm apparently. My kids all know they were unplanned, but as I tell them, "you were unplanned but never unwanted." Yes, it created hardships but with the grace and help of God we got through all of them. Today they're all married, have good lives and I have 7 grandkids. Abortion wasn't just never an option, it was never a thought.

I was also 14 in 74 when this came out. I found out only recently that it wasn't played at all in liberal states/cities. I heard it on our local radio station and it received quite a bit of airplay. But I live in the south in the bible belt.

Not everyone blames the woman or girl who finally decides on abortion.  Most of us in the pro-life movement recognize that in many if not most cases abortion is occasioned by the actions of predatory men who care only for their own selfish lust. Many Bay Area radio stations avoided playing this song as much as possible in order to not lose listeners in the ultra-liberal Bay Area where I used to live but thankfully, finally moved away from.  This song and album came out a year after the Roe Vs. Wade decision legalizing abortion in this country which will go down as the WORST thing in my lifetime!!!!  The "legal holocaust" continues today and we have lost over two generations of men and women who never got the chance at the right to be born.  And this is a tragedy beyond any words that can be said......

@gpomeroy Might have been KOME but I cannot be 100% sure.  It was in 1974 and whatever station it was had MUCH courage to play this song since the AM stations did not!  And NONE of the oldies stations today play if for fear of losing liberal listeners and sponsors.  Seals and Crofts no doubt lost tons of money by making and releasing this song but I will always remember them fondly for taking a stand and speaking out for the unborn with their touching but sad song.

It's nice to hear a woman from that era who is for life. So many of my family and friends who were in their teens and 20's back then are all super liberal and think they are fighting for women, but I know from experience it's a fight against not only the child, but against women.

Yes. We all need to support the women who want to keep their babies....encourage them! I did not have that encouragement and was in my weakness, I did not stand up to the father or my parents...and listened to the doctor who said "it" was "just tissue".
