Screaming Trees - Traveler Lyrics

It's a broken morning outside
Go easy on my mind
Because you're this dream I'm hanging on
And I'm trying to make the dawn

And the longest way I travelled
From the darkness to the light
Lord it's been a million miles
And these prisons, I can't abide

I'm halfway here, I'm halfway there
I'm halfway here, I'm halfway there
I'm halfway here, I'm halfway there
And all along I've been a traveller, yeah

Forever out of time
Forever just unwinds
I see the green beyond the blue
And I'm trying to make it through

And the longest way I travelled
From the darkness to the light
Lord it seems a million miles
All my brothers, I can't abide

I'm halfway here, I'm halfway there
I'm halfway here, I'm halfway there
I'm halfway here, I'm halfway there
All along I've been a traveller, yeah

This twilight world is cold
Go easy on my soul
Because you're this dream I'm hanging on
And I'm trying to meet the dawn

And the longest way I travelled
From the darkness to the light
Lord it seems a million miles
And these persons, I can't abide

I'm halfway here, I'm halfway there [x5]
All along I've been a traveller
[repeat to fade]

Screaming Trees Traveler Comments
  1. F.... Z....

I wouldn't call Screaming Trees a "grunge rock" band , they were very diverse and this song is a good example , it has that 70s Progressive rock sound the likes of such bands like Emerson Lake Palmer, would wttie , a great composition in my opinion

    F.... Z....

My Dad called them psychedelic folk/ rock .
I think that he was right.

    F.... Z....

Toby Langdale yep thats exactly what i was thinking

  2. d.... ....

why did no one tell me how great this band was back in the 90s? i never looked beyond "nearly lost you". now i'm hooked!

Radiohead, Kings of Crimson and Neil Young all evoked here. Very pretty little song, this one

    j.... r....

Radiohead was barely a thing back in 96. I'd more like a psychedelic/acoustic Beatles vibe going on.

    j.... r....

Seven years before Opeth's damnation album too. Also, I think you mean King Crimson. There's definitely a prog rock vibe going on(mainly because of the mellotron) though which is one reason I always liked this track.

  12. V.... R....

I love how this song showcases a style that Lanegan perfected in his solo career.

I really need to take off to my city's little Record Store and find out if they have any of the Trees' Records.

  14. S.... P....
