Screaming Trees - Sworn And Broken Lyrics
Winter's setting in again
And it feels like the end is near
Sense a sense I ain't had in long
Watching the seconds passing by
Won't be the one that we once lived on
Took an oath for a promise sworn and broken
All that's gone away
On Monday morning you can't wake up
Still dreaming of what could have been
Something good has gone and left you
It's another tear, one more denial
Come January, I swear this world
Took an oath, another a promise sworn and broken
All that's gone, all that's gone before you've changed
When Monday morning you don't wake up
Still dreaming of what could have been
Something good has gone and left you
It's another tear, one more denial
Come January, I swear this world
Took an oath, another promise sworn and broken
All that's gone, all that's gone before
All that's gone before
All that's gone before, It's changed

Screaming Trees Sworn And Broken Comments
DUST was fucking monumental.... if more people heard this.... the world would be better...
Still amazing in 2020
I should have discovered this song in 1996, and yet I just find out how great it is now? Is that justice?
Like with Look At You, the lyrics in this one are so simple, yet they articulate a profound understanding of some kind of personal inner turmoil/crisis. Very philosophical and poetic. There is a beauty in someone's intelligent understanding of experiences that we may all have a chance to face during our lifetime, especially when an artists sincerely reveals something of himself during this process.
Still love that song.
One of my all time favorites.
This is one of my most favorite songs! It's brilliant in it's emotional impact!
THIS IS SO BEAUTIFUL
I love this band.
Saw them '93 and it was amazing.
The one of the greatest voices of the Seattle grunge era.
Patrimonio dell'umanità
The Trees were actually a folk band disguised as, uhm, grunge.
Beautiful!!!
Josh Homme is in this video. He was their touring guitarist in 1996
Just found them 20 minutes ago. Every single song - Dollar-Bill, All I Know, Bed of Roses, Shadow of the Season, Nice! Will definitely be listening/searching out, on my ♩♩ list!
Don’t forget “Nearly Lost You.”
Good Lord this song is fantastic. I could loop the organ solo all day every day. The Trees are one of my fave bands ever, they're WAY better than most of their grunge contemporaries. Lanegan is such a powerful singer and Barrett Martin is one of the best drummers ever.
Didn't mark write this song for kurt?
Comprei o LP após ouvir Dollar Bill ,faz muito tempo.
Take note of Josh Homme in the background......he was a temporary rhythm guitar player for the Trees.
How did I not buy their CD'S
Oh, I'm willing to bet there are dozens of alternative bands you don't know about that were cool as shit. People always think they know the 90's but usually they don't.
On Monday morning you can't wake up
Still dreaming of what could have been
Something good has gone and left you
It's another tear, one more denial
The music, the lyrics, the talent. What an amazing song and a great album as well!
🌹🎅🌹
LOVE the keyboards. Love that solo. It sounds fantastic. Comes out of nowhere, has a classical music kinda feel. It fits.
Benmont Tench from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers. 🙂
They say the best bands are the most underrated

Nice love it!!! Yeah!
Why do i need to sob when i hear this ... i love it so much .. another time another place
He Did This For The Poeple Of Ellensburg
this song still gives me the bumps twenty years later
Loved this song and the album. Dust is probably my second favorite album, behind only Dirt from Alice in Chains. The songs, this one included, were beautifully written and layered. And who doesn't like Mark's vocals. Perfect fit.
Reminds me of when I worked at The Buckle many years ago. AWSOME song!!
Some years later and that unknow guy in this video (Josh Homme) becomes one of the greatest rock n roll artist of our time... Funny how things work.
PS I LOVE the Screaming Trees and , to this day, I still can't understand how they got so completely overlooked...
Cheers from Portugal!
Essa banda merece mais reconhecimento
Já acabou mano infelizmente
This song like a museum. And you can see what happened in 90's Seattle grunge scene in there.
Si tuviera una banda, esta canción sería una de las que siempre tocaría. Es posiblemente uno de los mejores temas que pudo haber creado Lanegan y compañía. Ojalá algún día tenga la dicha de escucharla en vivo, aunque sea en cover :’(
It's maybe not the best song of grunge but surely this song's got everything happened in grunge scene
His voice is the shit. This song will never tire me.
loved this so much . today i dedicate it chris cornell. may you find peace now beautiful man . Rip . you left us sworn and broken too soon
Lowri Spooner I still can't believe it. It's so heartbreaking
They sure went out on a high note
sdds dos anos 90,q foda foi a cena grunge
Uma das melhores bandas do movimento Grunge
My favorite screaming trees song. Hell one of the best songs of the 90s
isso é música porra !!!
Perfect!
Only 223,374 views? One the best productions of the 90's...
this song is so cute
Lanegan!!!!
There is a younger Josh Homme in the videoclip... amazing song ever!
yup he played with them on the Dust tour
you ever have something in your life that just grabs you by the throat and never lets you go? that's the affect the screaming trees have on me. my humble opinion, the best band ever.
i couldn't have put it better myself, something about this song takes me to another place , x
How can such an amazing band be so overlooked this is some serious talent
we are a minor groupe who love thise powerful songs. ??
probably my favourite band out of all the seattle music that emerged in the 90s. I got to see Mark Lanegan live last year in Seattle. The guy rules
The greatest rock band in the 1990s no other band comes close! It's the greatest ones that never get any air play! True talent never sells out!
Because the record company thought that a band with two fat guys couldn't break big, so they never put much effort into promoting them. They told Langegan that several times and encouraged him to get rid of them and get two cool dudes to replace them.
@Keith1974 The Screaming Tree's Don't Exsist Without Gary Lee Conner! Who gives a dam about what a band looks like! The music they made is Phenomenal!
This song breaks my heart
...la ballata del lupo, ...quanto ci mancate Screaming Trees!
I LOVE the fucking keyboards.
they're fucking awful
my memories waking up.,
What a fine, fine tune.
For me, this is the best song EVER.
This is one of the most beautiful songs ever written....but i hate the fuckin keyboards
@Michigan Music Productions Not sure I "hate" the keyboards, but I'd have used a harpsichord instead, for sure.
Michigan Music Productions you don't have heart
I love the keyboard in this song. I've always viewed it as being sarcastic, as it doesn't fit the vibe of the song at all. It's almost as if the singer is being laughed at and called a fool for trusting people in the first place.
one of soundtrack of my whole life
Makes me sob a little
Obrigado.
'' and it feels like the end is near''.................awesome..!!!!
Does this song remind anyone of Oasis?
+LaMorte not really but oasis certainly reminds me of the beatles
+LaMorte fk NO! ...
LaMorte both r great bands!
I see a poolside connection. This is like a perfectly linear dive while Oasis is more your show-offy belly flop.
LaMorte no. This is good
Why this band is so underrated? they're so amazing!
Yeah, they are the best! This song is so perfect...
@TotalGeekTeam agree ! :)
For better or worse, Mark Lanegan is a man who decided to keep doing new things with his career. Personally I respect him a lot more than I respect those who had sworn they'd never reunite but then couldn't resist the temptation to cash in on their past success.
I'm on the same planet as you are, doesn't matter what they use, what matters is what they sound like. It's just my opinion though.
What planet are you on? Soundgarden were on the album Deep Six. They were grunge before grunge was called grunge. Their music use meter signatures that bend time and space. 14/8 7/4. The very opposite of generic 4/4.
That's largely because most of it wasn't Mark's music (Gary Lee more or less ran the show), and he considers what they did in the '80's to be immature by later standards. Plus, his solo work is great imo. But that said, I still listen to the Trees more than any band of that era, and this is coming from a guy with Soundgarden and Alice in Chains tattoos.
Agreed, they're one of the most distinctive soundings bands I can think of. Anyone who thinks that Soundgarden's generic clearly hasn't listened to Badmotorfinger.
+ number of albums = best band? JAJAJA
dude.... soundgarden is the most generic??? ha. ok. for one nirvana was the king of 3 minute 4 chord songs. thats really genric. soundgarden not only was a band that started grunge, but they also play in a multitude of off time signatures with very complicated riffs. chris has one of the most recognizable voice in rock music. and they arent hyped... it took them like 4 albums to get big. if you dont like them thats cool. but if you think they are generic then youre just retarded. im sorry.

I never knew Joshua was in a Trees video. And again, great organ part from Benmont Tench from Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers.
Good times
Sadly they wont reunite. It seems mark feels like the trees was the worst of the music he did, which is crazy.
Got to see them back in 92. they were amazing
Mark seems like a dick, I talked to him when he was with QOTSA he was a dick, love the tree's! Bought his 1st 2 solo releases... never any after that cuz they sucked.
Screaming Trees are very good, but someone said here Soundgarden aren't good enough? My fav grunge band. Their album "Loud Love" tears everything apart. Definitely one of the best rock records ever made.
How good is that organ solo? I mean, really? Unreal.
Oh. I guess there's nothing I can do. Disappointment
Yes, I've heard all Soundgarden albums.
Have you heard Pretty Noose, Spoonman, Burden In My Hand. Those are my 3 favorites.
I'd take Screaming Trees over Soundgarden any day, I still don't understand why people pick Soundgarden over Screaming Trees. I kind of get Pearl Jam, Alice in Chains and Nirvana hype but Soungarden is just so generic.
nar no way man if ya new to screaing trees yal just not understand.. proper kick ass band! you will love um in time..
ridiculous comment.
thumbs down.
its not the fucking quantity that counts, it's the quality as well. both bands are equally good, they're from Seattle dammit. listen to the content of the Nirvana albums and you'll hear som awesome shit.
Trees reunion! but lanegan continues his solo career, both are freaking amazing!!!
Screaming Trees >>> Nirvana
Not even a question
Or the two look alike, which is stupid because they dont.
Yeah like a year before...
Well, that's your opinion... so okay.
Fair enough, but sometimes I get in a mood. Music is a huge part of my life.
I don't always feel the need to explain why I feel a certain way because quite frankly, some of the people who get on my ass off their rockers. It's those kind of people that you can't get through to, so it's a waste of time trying to get them to understand your side.
No need to get your panties in a bunch, buddy. Guess I just got tired of Nirvana in High School. All of that senseless angst playing over and over on alternative rock radio used to get me going during my early adolescent years, but it melted away a bit when I gained more perspective on things in my life...
FUCK NIRVANA. Screaming Trees were the best.
This song got me through some rough patches in my life.
They are completely different
Awesome band!!! Awesome song!!!
well, wasn't it Kurt Cobain before Nirvana ... ahem, sorry???
he is 3 years older than Kurt would be though
Kurt Cobain has been active in the industry since 82 Mark Lanegan as been in the industries as long as he's has the Screaming Trees since 85 bro... I guess you could say it doesn't matter unless you know who picked up the guitar first... Kurt was a little kid I am not sure about Mark though...
