Screaming Trees - Revelator Lyrics

Been a long time now we're face to face
The law tore me down and I'm going away
Every piece of it hurts and I know it babe
I have become convinced there's no other way

And every piece of it hurts

Hold you close here where I stand
I tried for one last breath
I've been awake for days and nights and I know what's true
Destiny is never free but maybe fate's confusing me
Bring it closer show me who you are

Monotone chromium revelator
Hang my head in shame
Monotone chromium revelator
Take my cares away

And every piece of it hurts

Now to the mirror for one last look at what I burned away and took the planet's every heart beat passing by
Life is bordered every side
I don't exist between the times
I said farewell friends, don't you know me?

  5. Carl Harrison

This track has got to be near as anything else as being the greatest rock /grunge track of all time.

    mat11trick

Carl Harrison ***It's a damn good one! \m/

  6. mrmojorsn111

I think THIS is the song where the band finally got in sync with Lanegan's natural vocal style. He wasn't trying to vocalize like a traditional "rock" singer-- singing too forcefully, too loudly, elongating notes. Here he's settled back into a slower, bluesier style and man it's fantastic. They finally got it right, perfect even. And then broke up.

  7. Timothy Hudson

    Good Song!

  8. mrmojorsn111

Goddamn I've got such a huge boner for this song! This is definitely one of my favorite vocal performances by Lanegan.

  9. Electronic Adventures

Stunning. We're losing this amazing period in rock history, one by one. The artists of the early/mid 90's rock renaissance. RIP Chris Cornell. Mark, please hang around at least a bit longer. Dust is my personal favorite album of all time and trust me, I've heard it all.

    Keith Ethridge

Electronic Adventures that's right where are the rest of the fans? Nobody in Alabama knows who they are.

  10. Blake Sosebee

    Destiny is never free
    but maybe fate's confusing me
    Bring it closer
    show me who you are

  11. Christopher Johnson

Love this song but have no clue what a monotone chromium revelator is

    Jonathan Van Horn

    It is a gun, a revolver 😕

    Rodney Thirteen

Definition of revelator. : one that reveals; especially : one that reveals the will of God.

    Jonathan Van Horn

@Rodney Thirteen yep, in this case, I think he is pondering how it's been a long time since he's been face to face with the revelator he keeps in the nightstand.

    mrmojorsn111

Yeah, basically it's a song about ending it all. He's become convinced there's no other way. Every piece of it hurts. It'll take his cares away. It's GREAT because they never say "gun." Or "shoot myself."

    Blake Sosebee

"Life is bordered every side. I don't exist between the times. I said farewell, friends don't you know me?" One of my favorite lines.

  12. Hans Brielmann

    wonderful guitars! great song!

  13. Michigan Music Productions

This is one of the greatest songs ever written, and recorded, ever.....it is just a perfect song....

    Sean Twomey

And sadly on their final album, not 5 or 6 albums ago... I wish they would reform. The world needs music like this.

  14. BrandtArt66

This song is so worth owning and absorbing into your bloodstream that I can't recommend it enough. One "dislike?" Are you f-ing kidding me?

  15. Richard Haigh

Lanegan's voice is one of the most expressive I've ever heard. I've only seen him three times live, but I find all his music to be extremely moving--live or recorded. And the rest of the band were fantastic as well.

  16. Mike

i have sweet oblivion dust and uncle anesthasia and i love their music but could someone explain to my why they broke up?

  17. lonewizzard

I love Lanegan and his amazing solo output but Gary, Van, Mark P and Barrett were the rest of the glue that made this band incredible. This is timeless music that I never tire of. Sorry Pearl Jam, Mudhoney and to a lesser extent Nirvana you don't have shit on the Screaming Trees.

  18. donald dive

    screaming trees hype yeah

  19. jmlotk

I think the album this is on needs to go on my shopping list. This is as good as or even better than Dust ( my fave album so far )

  20. cass b

my bro just introduced me to these guys and I love them!

  21. Stuart Phillips

    This is the nuts!

  22. joe g

    Just found these guys....awesome !!!!

  23. TakarrakaViva

    P-E-R-F-E-C-T-I-O-N..

  24. Sean Morpheus

Yes I just went on his site. I am wondering when he will ruse it as a platform to give me, and other true fans what they really fucking want... More demos, unreleased material the trees did circa 1985-1991. I have stuff nobody else has, short of the band themselves, but still. I know there is more. If Lee doesn't put out stuff soon I am going to go insane :) Van I know is really stingy when it comes to releasing older stuff they did. he isn't quite as proud of it as Lee.

  25. djstavri

Fantastic song. Proof they had so much more to give

  26. bkojak

@Sean021122 there are two more songs. Van Conner apparently has started up a record label and he is releasing the last two as a 7" single. not sure when.

  27. Sean Morpheus

It sounds like a less commercial take on "troubled Times" or something off sweet oblivion. I'm still waiting on more demos from these last sessions. I know they put out more than just the 9 fucking songs I got demos of :s

  28. m4ttyx

    Absolutely fantastic. Worth the wait!

  29. Allan Christopher

How the hell can a shitty band like Staind even be worthy of sharing a page with Screaming Trees!? Fucking blasphemy!!

  30. mat11trick

Check all of these Final Recordings out.

  31. RugerRedHawk25

this album was so long overdue, this song was sure as hell worth the wait

  32. mark calnan

Great track...........nice work fellas...........find some time in the future and make some more of your signature sound:)
