Screaming Trees - Dollar Bill Lyrics

Torn like an old dollar bill
Girl let them say what they will
That no one should hurt you
And that's all I seem to do
That no one should desert you
And that's all I seem to do

I got to tell you, goodbye mama
We've taken this too far
Been trying to tell you what's going on
Trying to make it easy on you
Trying to make it better
Make it easier on you
It's all I came to do
It's all I came to do

Now I'm down in the light
And I must be dreaming it
Cause I see clearly, I see angels here
Bringing something to me, Mother Mercy

I told a lie, I didn't mean it
Goodbye mama, I've taken this too far
Been gone a while
Been gone a long way, oh yeah

I don't want to hurt you
It's all I seem to do
Don't want to desert you
It's all I seem to do

I got to tell you, goodbye mama
I've taken this too far
Been down a while
Been down a long way

Trying to make it easy on you
Trying to make it better
Make it easier on you
It's all I came to do
It's all I came to do
It's all I came to do
That's all... been down a long
Been down a long, long way
Torn like an old dollar bill

Screaming Trees Dollar Bill Comments
  1. G.... S....

You know it's gonna' be a ballad because the video's in black and white.

  2. J.... F....

Say what you want about grunge underrated bands this that and the other all I have to say is that drummer has some thick fucking hair!

  3. B.... O....

So this is the dude who sang on songs for the deaf

  4. R.... C....

And through the rest of the song that becomes obvious. He feels bad because he thought that a quick, easy romance would be a good thing but it's led to more pain. couples would call eachother "mama" and "papa." Things have gotten too serious for him and he's tried to tell her this but she hasn't wanted to hear it, hence "been tryin to tell you what's going on," and now it's getting to the point where he has no choice but to just call it quits.

  5. A.... L....

    Mister Mark Lanegan

  6. s.... g....

These were a quality band. I had the fortune of seeing Mark in 2002 (I think) when he was on tour with Queens Of The Stone Age in Leeds,UK.That was a great concert.

  7. I.... a....

"Sweet Oblivion" is one of my favorite albums ❤️
The video gives me some Breaking Bad vibes...

  8. S.... L....

One of my favorite bands during the grunge era. He had a great voice . I can't wait to see a tour of all the old grunge bands . I'm surprised they haven't capitalized on getting all these old bands together. Then having a nationwide tour.

  9. K.... C....

If you like this song, check out "Sworn and Broken" off Dust. May be even more of a post break-up tear-jerker and features plenty of wah-wah from Gary Lee and bonus organ fills from Tom Petty sidekick Benmont Tench.

  10. A.... L....

    I love this song....❤

  11. R.... M....

    Quanta saudades💯🌻💟🎸

  12. F.... L....

This stuff isn't grunge. This is pop music.

  13. D.... B....

back when every genre of music was hiting the charts it was a wide open market

  14. G.... ....

This is one of the best bands I've heard, but if I was a screaming tree I would avoid lumberjack shirts.

  15. C.... R....

The more the Trees slowed their songs, the less grungy they became.

  16. j.... m....

Hitting the Smirnoff red white and berries and listening to this just a damn good time.

  17. E.... A....

Via muito esse video na MTV Brasil!

  18. M.... S....

    grunge is not dead

  19. R.... ....

    6-30-19 Trees still scream!

  20. W.... ....

why doesnt this have 1 million views?

  21. L.... F....

Every time I listen to this song my emotions get the better of me. Thank you Mark Lanegan.

  22. C.... R....

A voice that can reduce a grown man to tears. Awesome :'-)

  23. P.... S....

    Grunge Morrison

  24. C.... V....

Last year I went to a concert by Lanegan and his band in Santiago, Chile. Still kickin' some ass!!

  25. D.... B....

Trees suck balls. Left in the wake of the real musicians AIC, SG, ToTD and PJ

Barrett Martin was the best thing to happen to this band. Mark Lanegans voice is monotone and boring

  26. A.... C....

Uma das vozes mais lindas do movimento.

    A.... C....

Mas Tanto O Vocalista Quanto A Banda, São Muito Subestimados
Muitas Pessoas, Se Esquecem Da Existência Deste Vocalista e Desta Banda Grunge.

  27. C.... W....

A song that should have surely been included into the Sons of Anarchy list.

  28. n.... ....

Should have been a way bigger hit that it was

  29. A.... C....

  30. C.... ....

Van Connor's label, strange earth records has just released woodshed's new CD, between the dreams. Check it out on Google play, iTunes, Spotify, anywhere you find your music.

This band has carried me through life!¡!!! 111Love

  32. A.... C....

Trust me when I say that I know!!! ¡! 111

  33. s.... g....

They definitely don't have the recognition that they deserve!

  34. s.... g....

Jim Morrison! I said this back in the 90s. Soul Child!

  35. T.... O....

its been like 15 years since I last heard this song. Is there something wrong with this recording? I honestly didn´t remember it being so sped up
... geeze, the drummer is rushing like the cops are outside waiting for him

    T.... O....

Definitely no click track on this. Sounds great regardless

  36. t.... h....

I never got screaming trees I've tried over and over again to listen to them and like them but it just can't seem to enjoy any song by them

  37. J.... S....

Wow! This is smooth!!! I really enjoy it.

  38. M.... ....

    Such a cool voice

  39. R.... W....

    Still Love these songs!
    Great band!

  40. c.... ....

    Some great drumming here!

  41. m.... K....

Loved these guys - played you loud at the top of Alaska

    m.... K....

Still got u on my music list

  42. S.... F....

Saw these guys at the old community center in Ellensburg back in '89 for their "Buzz Factory" release party... back when Mark Pickerel was on drums and they were on SST.
I was 13, and it forever changed my perception of rock music.
I still love anything from Mark Lanegan. And every now & again I pull up a song by these guys & remember when...

  43. P.... S....

    Lanegan = Morrison

  44. r.... p....

Van defines cool & sexy in that big mans body better then anyone ever did!

  45. U.... D....

Such an underrated band. Never get tired of hearing the Trees. Very tight.

  46. S.... J....

Isso aí é rock atitude, geração nutela do caralho!!!!

  47. B.... N....

    Du !? Caralho 🤐

    Screaming Trees Dollar Bill :)

    J.... K....

    Thank you :)

  49. m.... ....

    Awful!!

  50. R.... R....

    nice band

  51. 1.... ....

There was great potential in this band but sth didn't work. After a couple of 2-3 mediocre records, they made some grunge classics but maybe they didn't have the "look" for the corporate magazines. There was no pretty boy in the band.Overall,Lanegan's solo stuff is far more interesting.I have to say that.Dollar Bill is probably their best song.

  52. V.... D....

Makes me want to take that arrow-straight, pancake-flat highway bound to nowhere...

  53. A.... K....

This is not grunge!! It's classic Americana and damn good one😎

  54. B.... A....

Beats the shit out of the music today!

  55. M.... C....

    This is Grunge.

  56. C.... B....

Lived in Seattle my whole life, screaming trees has never been one of my favorite bands from the grunge era. I feel they are underrated though but I feel that Mother love bone is a lot more underrated and of course mad season is underrated for the caliber of shear musical talent that made up the band.

  57. Z.... R....

Always loved this track, just don't get drunk and high listening it to it, if you are feeling low :-)

  58. K.... S....

Amazing - The Trees they don´t have some bad song. I bought "dust" a few years ago - on the peak of their work they close the door - for ever? Now we have Lanegan in an other way but as leadsinger of the trees he was unreachable. Often they were much better than pearl jam. Iam born in 1958 and know Black Sabbath, Iron Butterfly for this it is dump doom rock without such energy. Greetings from Germany.

  59. S.... B....

    Unfuck the world 2018

  60. h.... ....

Dollar Bill 🎸quer canção LINDA irmão 😢eu lembro do meu paí 😓e da minha mãe que voltou pra perto de Deus🙏. ....que tempo BOM 🙌

  61. M.... E....

IM GOING THRU IT, & DAYUM FEELS FKD UP!!

  62. M.... E....

Its s feelinq inside yet lies continue snd they try to convince otherwise. Or lauqh when not around.

  63. J.... M....

These guys were hosting Rage, an Aussie rock show broadcast in the early hours on the weekend where bands got to pick their favourite songs and music videos. They played stuff like Melvins and Cranberries, Cosmic Psychos, Tad etc. While they were plugging a few songs from their own album, they played this video and 'Nearly Lost You'. They said that the clip where they are being showered with water in this video, they were actually showered with raw sewage because someone messed up the plumbing :D. It'd be good if the ABC released those shows on DVD or on the web.

  64. B.... O....

Being born in 88 I missed the last big wave in rock. Rock is dead.

    B.... O....

    Dyuuuuuudeeee! Rock never die!!!

  65. M.... d....

Oscar Linares Rocked in this piece of art

  66. F.... L....

  80. H.... S....

Love thise great guitars, it`s a pity that the band is underrated

  81. k.... ....

The Screaming Trees don't get the credit they truly deserve. I absolutely love Mark Lanegan!!!

  87. B.... B....

half a million views for this, kinda says it all

  88. N.... P....

Contudo a melhor banda do Grunge é o PJ.

    N.... P....

NIETZSCHE PRESENTE EM TODOS OS COMENTÁRIOS! Para mim a maior banda grunge é o Alice in Chains, o PJ é comercial.

  89. A.... B....

    amooooo

  90. C.... C....

    Awesome song!

  91. L.... ....

on Sweet Oblivion, this is my #2

  92. R.... M....

don't understand why they never had bigger following.  Nearly lost you kicks ass!

    R.... M....

It was a long four year gap from Sweet Oblivion to Dust and a lot happened in those four years. Lots of missed opportunities and stalled momemtum

  93. D.... B....

The most underated band of the grunge era. I put them in the top 5 Seattle bands of all time.

    D.... B....

David Bailey yeah. I can still listen to their albums cover to cover. I can't really say that about the rest of the Seattle bands from that era.

    D.... B....

@Sean Dana How about their Anthology CD that features songs from their deleted '80's albums like Buzz Factory and Invisible Lantern. The progression from "Barriers" to the final four or five tracks shows their progression from goofy garage band to the brink of the grunge big leagues.

    D.... B....

@Josue Arnold Technically yes. But if so then The Melvins and Nirvana weren't Seattle bands either. They were from Aberdeen and the Gray's Harbor area.

Beat Happening wouldn't have been a Seattle band either. They were from Olympia.

  94. l.... ....

    MAN, it's been a century since i
last heard this cd. it really WAS killer _____

  95. A.... ....

Kurt Sutter ... How SOA missed this awesome song.
