Screaming Females - Cortez The Killer Lyrics

He came dancing across the water
With his galleons and guns
Looking for the new world
In that palace in the sun

On the shore lay Montezuma
With his coca leaves and pearls
In his halls he wondered
With the secrets of the worlds

And his subjects gathered 'round him
Like the leaves around a tree
In their clothes of many colors
For the angry gods to see

And the women all were beautiful
And the men stood straight and strong
They offered life in sacrifice
So that others could go on

Hate was just a legend
And war was never known
The people worked together
And they lifted many stones

And they carried them to the flatlands
And they died along the way
But they built up with their bare hands
What we cannot build today

And I know she's living there
And she loves me to this day
I still can't remember when
Or how I lost my way

He came dancing across the water
Cortez, Cortez
What a killer

Screaming Females Cortez The Killer Comments
  1. S.... D....

I bet Meg White is playing drums.

  2. M.... C....

It’s a nice song but the truth about history is so dark and bloody that nice song turn sour. The Aztecs and the rest or those groups didn’t have missionaries or a golden rule. Atleast Cortez brought something that became what we have today.

  3. M.... C....

The Aztecs stacked heads too. It’s a human pastime, coming to a place near you too.

  4. T.... L....

  5. q.... ....

that's all, sounded like you all were just getting started

  6. N.... G....

Marissa style is unmatched. One of my favorite artists of today hands down.

  7. S.... D....

When Neil Young plays this in concert is way angrier than the album version.

  8. S.... D....

Best version Grace Potters is ok as well but this one clearly catches the original angry intent of the lyrics.

  9. P.... L....

taking into account what this is covering it could have been but certainly isn’t a bit of a disaster I love Marissa’s vocals and her guitar playing is brilliant and different.. great cover (of course not better just different and equally enjoyable)

  10. s.... ....

One of THE best versions of this song.

    Marissa is an amazing guitarist

This song is very 70s-ish in a good way.

    E.... t....

Well it is a cover of a Neil Young song that came out in 1975.
