My mother sang this a lot. First time I've heard the original artist. Always thought it was a female artist. Nice voice - takes me back to a lot of good memories. Listening to my mother and aunties singing old songs.

+Paul Maney Chavs may have liked Pitney's version (if he had decided to do one) but it would have all been too fast and tinny for my liking. When you've got Scott's version you don't need any others.

Just heard this for the first time after loving Lulu's original for 48 years now.  I'm a huge Walker Brothers fan too and own all sorts of their rare stuff, but Lulu blows Scott away on this one.  QED. 

+Paul Maney How odd. I'm a Walker Brothers fan and have been listening to Scott's version since it was released in the sixties. Until I came on here I hadn't realised anyone else had done it.

I cried my heart out over a lost love at 15 to this.....soundtrack to my adolescent years and lulu was one of the few brave singers to tackle it too.

It is hard to choose a favourite Scott Walker song - there are so many magnificant recordings, but this has to be one of the best.!

Lulu was in fact the original artist. Lulu's single and Scott's album both came out in 1968, I just didn't know what was first. But after doing some research, I found out that the song was already in her 1967album "Love Loves to Love Lulu". So thanks for pointing that out!
