Scott-Heron, Gil - Lady Day And John Coltrane Lyrics
Ever feel kinda down and out, you don't know just what to do--
Livin' all of your days in darkness let the sun shine through--
Ever feel that somehow, somewhere, you've lost your way--
And if you don't get help quick you won't make it through the day--
Could you call on Lady Day,
Now ‘cause they'll
They'll wash your troubles
Your troubles your troubles
Your troubles away!
Plastic people with plastic minds are on their way to plastic homes--
No beginning there ain't no ending just on and on and on and on and on, it's
All because they're so afraid to say that they're alone--
Until our hero rides in, rides in on his saxophone.
Could you call on Lady Day,
Now ‘cause they'll,
They'll wash your troubles,
Your troubles, your troubles
Your troubles away!
Ever feel kinda down and out, you don't know just what to do--
Livin' all of your days in darkness let the sun shine through--
Ever feel that somehow, somewhere, you've lost your way--
And if you don't get help quick you won't make it through the day--
Could you call on Lady Day,
Could you call on John Coltrane
Now ‘cause they'll,
They'll wash your troubles,
Your troubles, your troubles
Your troubles away!
Your troubles, your troubles
Your troubles away...
Your troubles, your troubles
Your troubles...

I gave ol' Gil a thumbs-up from the first five syllables that flowed from his lips! I have wondered from my teen years to this day why he wasn't promoted more! He transcends Jazz, 'Pop', Soul, Rock, 'Folk', etc. Of the last, especially ith doth confuses me why this strata of music lovers didn't virtually 'anoint' him? He at least was the one of the most lyrically, and poetic "bell-weather" for enlightenment and progress!!!
Classic.

Gil Scot-Heron's magnificent tribute to jazz greats Billie Holiday and John Coltrane, track 3 on side one of his album "Pieces of a Man", released in 1971 in stereo format on Flying Dutchman Records in the United States. It was also issued in the United Kingdom on Philips Records in 1972.
Lyrics:
Ever feel kinda down and out, you don't know just what to do--
Livin' all of your days in darkness let the sun shine through--
Ever feel that somehow, somewhere, you've lost your way--

Could you call on Lady Day,
Could you call on John Coltrane

A groovin' cut. And listening to Gil helped wash our trouble's away. This was one cool soul brother.
Indeed.....just an incredible song....his vocals are perfect, but the subtlety of the drums and bass are hidden gems on this song.

Anyone remember those old tv advertisements for Tango, the soft drink? They would always feature someone getting splattered with the orange stuff. As the advert was ending, a voice would say, "You've been Tango-ed".Well, it was Gil Scott-Heron who supplied that voice.

+illiterate thug maybe he means the lime light of football made his life less dangerous being black in the 70's
@Will Johnson Yeah I ser what you mean.
He'd be a lot better of as a black player at Celtic than he would player for the other lot.
