Sayer, Leo - When I Came Home This Morning Lyrics

When I came home this morning
I got your letter and what it said
I didn't understand
You told me it was over, au revoir,
See you again sometime
I didn't understand
And overleaf you tell me that you love me
Meet me on the corner
The usual time, the usual place
I will be there
Meet me on the corner
I'll see you coming, then I'll be sure
Sure you'll be there
Oh and I wanna tell you that I love you
I love you
I see your face, I see the night
I love you, yeah I love you
Oh and deep in the night you know I see your eyes
Saying I love you
Honey I love you
I love you, yes I do
I stood on the corner
All the cars went sweeping by
Did somebody call me, no there was no-one there
Well, I'll go on waiting, perhaps tomorrow
Another day, I will be there
Oh and I wanna say that I love you
I just wanna say that I love you
I see your face, I see the night
I love you, yeah I love you
Oh and deep in my sleep you know I see your eyes
I love you
I love you
Yeah, I love you, yes I do
I love you
I love you
Yeah, I love you, yes I do

Takes me back to my secondary school days and I can honestly say this guy had an enormous impact on my emotional apprenticeship. Become a fan from day 1, not only with his Pierrot disguise but his incredible vocal range. First 3 albums were the best (SIlverbird, Just a Boy & Another Year) - unfortunately for me his music direction changed for the worse.
Too many favouties to mention but When I came home this morning was right up there - I could relate to every lyric and the explosive ending gets to me every time - timeless gem.
