Sayer, Leo - Have You Ever Been In Love Lyrics

In the morning light
Half awake and half asleep
Have you ever lay there thinking
Was it all in a dream
But you reach out and she's there
Every moment everywhere
Have you ever been in love
Have you ever felt how far a heart can fall
Have you ever stayed up waiting for a telephone call
Just to hear her say hello
'Cos you miss each other so
Have you ever been in love
Have there been times to laugh
And times you really wanna cry
Finding reasons to believe her
'Cos you'd die a little if she lied
And when in times of doubt
Have you ever tried to work it out
But still she leaves you wondering what it's all about
When she's far away, did you ever felt the need to stray
And tried and then discovered it just doesn't pay
And with her you can be true
For with her you can be you
Have you ever been in love
Have there been times to laugh
And times you really wanna cry
Finding reasons to believe her
'Cos you'd die a little if she lied
And when in times of doubt
Have you ever tried to work it out
But still she leaves you wondering what it's all about

[Solo]

And when in times of doubt
Have you ever tried to work it out
And still she leaves you wondering what it's all about
And when the night comes down
Can you call this house a home
Do you dream you're still together
And wake up alone
Have you ever been in love
The way that I'm in love
Have you ever been in love

I was 14 when this came out, have you ever stayed up waiting for a telephone call cause you miss each other so. Really resonated, as I was always waiting up for my boyfriend to call. Married him when I was 24, he broke my heart by cheating, now divorced.

    Stew Beattie

Only stay up for your son or daughter never a bloke! sorry he cheated we ain't all like that!bet he regrets it anyway twat 😄

it is funny to know that i just heard this song the last month or so what is more amazing for me it tells my life story of what happened to me in my young days what more amazing i think it happened about 1983? ye true perhaps it tells many other peoples life at a point of time? well i am enjoyed loving this song how did the writer ever know part of my life story? perhaps it happened also to him? or whatever? anyway i am in a new band and we are to perform this song i am the keyboard player and one of the singers girl you know who you are if you are free look me up i still love you 53 now and still love you i did search the world over but did not find you look me up perhaps you find me? i write this in case you read it?

Someone else has already mentioned the Bucks Fizz connection via Andy Hill but ,in addition, I always thaught they were actually offered the song but rejected it?. Sayer's version, as well as well sung, has a FINE Arif Mardin production and THAT PIANO!!!..simply EXCELLENT. Best part kicks in at the [email protected]:11.Play this as the winter sun is setting beneath an icey blue sky, after a golden... sunlit afternoon! HEAVENLY!.

Lovely album!  Full of an enchanting mixture of songs.  We used to listen to this album on cassette in the car on summer holidays in the mid 80s.  I love this song, Orchard Road and Heart stop beating in time.

  60. Plaza Gourmet

    Beautiful...just beautiful!

  61. Jim O'G

I don't care who recorded this song before or after Leo Sayer, THIS is the only version as far as I'm concerned!

  62. mickfizz1

The song was written by Andy Hill, John Danter and Pete Sinfield, who also co wrote  Making Your Mind Up and The Land Of Make Believe for Bucks Fizz.
Andy Hill first sung the song as lead vocalist in 1981 with his group Gem for the Song for Europe Contest that year and then later re -recordeded it when he was in the group Paris. Leo Sayer then covered it.

    Angelique Le-Rada

mickfizz1 convoluted order has become any chemical reaction from past and present service; Palpatous and wanting, I am familiar.

  63. TCB1965

Yes. Yes. Yes. That's just how it is the love thing. Never want to go back there. My 2nd marriage saved my life. Lol... Fuck going back there man...

    000 poco777

    @TCB1965 stop drinking that helps

  64. Ga Wa

I was 15 when this song came out.  I was really into this girl called Sheila.  We dated a couple of times, but it didn't work out.  It was the first time I had felt heartache.  It was devastating.  It makes me laugh now but at the time this song had me in tears :-) Teen-hood hormones. :-)

    Brian Ward

    Ga Wa God bless

    Trish Woodhall

  70. protectwildlife1

THIS SONG IS SO BEAUTIFUL reaching every single cell of my body.
Leo Sayer sang with so much depth, about true and delicate feelings.
No doubt this is an evergreen

  71. Richard Beirne

This is the only version I've heard- must get of hold Peter Cetera's.... Even as a 34 y/o guy, this song attracts a tear!

  72. Tao Wang

Westlife's version is really the one and only best!

  73. UberDurable

    Beautiful song.

  74. Merlin Athrawes

Once after he played this song, our local DJ said "Well I've never bean in love, but I've avocado-ed in love." And yes, this IS lots better than Peter Cetera's version.

  75. schoolie

paris did the original and best imo

  76. Azzie Miller

After hearing Peter Cetera sing this song, this version sounds cheesy, I don't care for Leo's voice at all.

  77. Jack Frost
