Sayer, Leo - Another Year Lyrics

Oh it's twelve o'clock
On the old grey wall
Yet another year
'75 is here
I hear all the people celebrating
Another year
Oh Darkness, darkness
Inside my head
I'm on my own again
That's what I think I said
This place is just a one-horse town
So let the rain fall down
Year and year again
I'll be sitting here reflecting
How nothing's changed
But am I still the same
People blow up all around me
Yet I remain
Nothing's changed
Another day begins
The same old same again
It's like some movie scene
I know it all frame by frame
I'll try to figure out what it means
Some other day
Now my diary
Is looking back at me
Oh it's another year
'76 is here
I'm watching all the people celebrating
Another year
It's another year
Another year
Another year

    Nice. Not a classic though.

    Lovely sad song

This is, for me, Leo Sayer's best album. His departure for disco tinged chart fodder meant that the intimate musical vignettes on albums like, and especially, "Another Year" were never recaptured.
I fully accept that, rather like the Bee Gees, his move away from the style of his early albums to a more poppy sound reaped great financial reward, but there is a part of me that says we lost a great talent at the same time.

"Silverbird", "Just a Boy" and "Another Year" were his first three albums, they were in this style of music, I know, I bought them new when they came out in the 70's.Then he fell in love and went disco and love songs on his fourth album (Endless Flight). He's produced some new stuff in the last 10 years, I even purchased 2005 "Voice In My Head" but it's not like his first three albums....great songs!!
