Girl Next Door describes general hate towards a girl who seems to have a better life than you because she always has better.

The one thing I love most about this song is that the singer never says anything bad about the popular girl. She recognizes that the popular girl is just that-- popular. Prom Queen is not snobby, doesn't bully the Girl Next Door or is necessarily even mean.


GND realizes that she's just being bitter and envious, so she comes by hating Prom Queen rather than having to come into terms with her own mediocrity.


It's so much better than You Belong to Me because of the self awareness.

Taylor Swift's song is about liking a boy who is with another, more popular girl, who doesn't appreciate him.
This song is different, it focuses on general envy of a girl, not because she's with a boy you like, but because she's just in general more popular, and seems to be perfect. The only line in this one that mentions a boy is "Secretly I wonder if my boyfriend wants to date her."
Like I said, Taylor Swift's song is about a crush, this song is about being jealous of someone else for having what you want. I personally like both songs, but I just think it's unfair to compare them when they don't have much in common aside from talking about a girl who's a cheerleader while you're sitting in the stands.
