Savatage - Handful Of Rain Lyrics
The night is growing dark
From somewhere deep within
It shelters like an ark
That always takes you in
And pours another round
For a lost soul at the corner
Who prays he's never found
And the mind goes numb
Until it's feeling no pain
And the soul cries out
For a handful of rain
Wash your women
When your future's
In the past
And your staring
Up at heaven
From the bottom
Of a glass
And you need some insulation
From the years you've
Had and lost
And you feel the perspiration
As you're adding up the cost
And the night rolls on
Like a slow moving train
And the soul cries out
There's a land beyond the living
There's a land beyond the dead
If it's true that God's forgiving
Of the lives that we had led
In the distance there's a thunder
And the air is thick and warm
And the patrons watch with wonder
The approaching of the storm
And the night rolls on
Like a slow moving train
And the soul cries out
For a handful of rain
There's an old man in the corner
And he's smoking all the time
An the smoke is drifting upward and it's
Twisting in my
Twisting in my
Mind
In my mind
The whiskey's getting deeper
And I use it like a moat
There's a blues man in the distance and he's
Lost inside his
Note
His note
The night is growing dark
From somewhere deep within
It shelters like an ark
That always takes you in
And the night rolls on
Like a slow moving train
And the soul cries out
For an handful of rain

Savatage Handful Of Rain Comments
Just saw TSO today and they played this song. Have to say that they ROCKED this song and the whole show
great song from a great band!!! \m/
i heard the first few notes and i cringed. i knew it was gonna be 90s by the cheap sound. Wtf is this?? thisnt savatage. this is some hokey 90s bullshit. comes off forced too.
On October 17th, 1993, Savatage guitarist Criss Oliva and his wife Dawn were struck by a drunk driver
Anybody.. that wants to understand the full context of the band’s legacy can consider it mandatory listening.. 🎧🆗🎶🌧️💙
Grande Savatage, aguante el heavy metal ml
Ear their music since early 90s and still appreciate real metal
... Has a couple of the same chords, in it (Lot of Zak-era Savatage tunes are in D minor) but it didn't catch on, at radio, the way the song "Edge Of Thorns" did. .. Great tune, though.
Muito bom
Im here cuz some guy commented under a certain Song that it reminded him of savatage - handful of rain. Love it.
Recommend you guys checking out that song too, its named
The most cursed of Hands/who am i by The Dear Hunter :)
mepp Stue way to stumble upon in of the greatest bands of all time \m/ long live Savatage
what chemicals are running through the mind of the people who hit a dislike to Savatage music .. wish if I can hit more than one like
Absolutely in love with the acoustic guitar tone in this song. Now THIS is how you write a song!
I listen to this song when I was 15.. loved it
Savatage continue to blow my mind, they are right up there with the best of the best.......
An my soul Cry's out for a hand full of rain...there's a levy on the living an a levy on the dead..it is true that gods forgiving for the lives that we had ledd!!!

This songs bad ass...you dislikers are nuttz!!obviously not a die hard metal fan like me!!
thank you Jon Oliva and Chris for explaining the light and darkness that is something we go through in battle and acceptance of light we all are decaying, I hope you guys can make more music, we must fight darkness and chaos that seems to be everywhere now, and Jesus and satan are real
jesus and satan are real LOL
any proof?
HI IM NEW HERE JUST NOW 😀IVE NOT HEARD THIS GREAT ALBUM EVER , I LOVE SAVATAGE FOR MANY YEARS ,. THANX FROM SHERIDAN , WYOMING USA R.I.P. CRISS 😳
damn miss Criss and his playing
Me too, Skolnick is on this one but I digress. 'Tage rules!!!
@lonewizzard Jon Oliva played the guitars on this one
Darkness official Skolnick is literally in the music video😂 dumbass
Its fucking ridiculous how this song is so underrated.
Savatage forever
Anyone else here know that they are Trans-Siberian Orchestra?
Slave Of Christ Savatage was first then Paul O'Neill, Jon Oliva, Chris Caffrey, etc formed TSO a few years later. Savatage isn't TSO but they did carry over some members.
Most of their members. Jeff Plate and Johnny Lee Middleton also were a part of TSO.
Anyone else here knows that Jon has a band under the name "Jon Olivas Pain" and does savatage-ish stuff ?
so perfect.....love it
Yup, with this band I can play every album track to track and jam out. Some days I feel like listening to Sirens and I'll play the whole album, in the car loud as hell or with headphones; some days I'll feel like Gutter Ballet, some days Dead Winter Dead, some days Power of the Night, whateverr. all their albums are good, even Poets and Madmen, love that one too. I might need to buy some live albums now!!!
danny kohen need a singer with a pa who can cover Jon well??✌🎤🎧🇺🇸
just outside looking in ,a comment to the you tube moron who MADE "DISLIKE"AN OPTION ,AND those who take (waste) the time to dislike (like anyone gives a sh#$/t) .....your fu#ck@&^/g retards!!!!
Do the world a favor have babies together and go extinct !
excellent!!!!
Yeah, I really like this one. Alone You Breath, from this album, is also excellent ... Written by the great Jon Oliva 🙂
I Wrote it on a other Savatage song BUT : this is a good hymn for Boxer too
Raider Dave need a singer with a pa who can cover Jon well??😎🎤🎧🎸🎼🇺🇸
epic song!
Has Savatage ever written a bad song? Nay, a song that wasn't a masterpiece?
Umm he tries ... and had a fair bit of studio help. .. If Zak was the singer on that record it would have been absolutely incredible. I have all the Circle 2 Circle CDs .. They are awesome.
@Zorn Casteel personal preference...I find the zac stuff rather boring tbh. And JOs Pain still is awesome. You listen to zac, I listen to Jon and we both enjoy Paul O'Neills Mastermind
It isn't boring .. Because Zak is singing. - You really think (sticking to 90s era Savatage) Jon is in the same league as Zak, vocally? Or is it you just love what he brought to the table, in Savatage's beginnings ...
@Zorn Casteel I prefer 80s savatage (including streets) and 2000s savatage though. The songs are still good with zac on vocals because they were still written by Jon and Paul. It's still savatage anf savatage is fucking great
Nathaniel Ibramovich Gerber HALL OF THE MOUNTAIN KING "ISN'T GREAT"????? What kind of fucking crack are you smoking son???
There would be no Tran-Siberian Orchestra without Savatage. Live Strong
Yeah, but TSO prevents new Savatage albums & tours.
I for one like Savatage WAY better.
Epic..acoustic doesn't get any heavier than this..does it?
It's undistorted into distorted...it's all electric guitar
@Darkness official i'm not sure... The undistorted parts are very poppy and i don't think you can have that with an electric guitar
Metal arpeggio at his finest
Timeless classic!! Savatage rules!
\m/

Totally in the Metal Church w. Mike Howe vein.
Awesome !
Very good guy
Very good guy
and the soul cries out for a handful of rain
Just love it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! awesome!
that guitar tho....goosebumps
In Italiano:"Grazie per aver pubblicato codesta canzone. Grazie per essere costantemente nella mia malandata vita. Grazie mille, Jon, nato il mio stesso giorno. ..per noi Australiani significa più di quanto parola umana possa descrivere".
To Jon & Criss (R.I.P.): thanks.
Dr Killdrums is Steve Walcholz. Johnny Middleton was the bassist of Savatage! ;)
Best savatage lineup: Jon Oliva, Zach Stevens, Criss Oliva, Criss Caffery, Doctor Killdrums (Johnny Lee Middleson)
Criss Oliva unfortunately was not on this album! The lead guitarist is Alex Skolnick from Testament! Dr. Killdrums is actually Steve Walchoz! Johnny Lee Middleton is the Bass player not the drummer!
Streets: A rock opera, Dead winter dead, and Poets and Madmen are the way to go
I fucking love this song
Is it even possible to find the extended version of this song? I've heard it like once before, but now I can't find it.
MegaloDorian
Very good!
Only true metalheads know and love bands like SAVATAGE :') lml
I guess I have a “true metal-head” \m/(-.-)\m/ since the 80’s!!!!
young kids dont know about that bro
This song reminds me of the exodus song "a good day to die".
They have many great songs, I'd recommend you to listen to their whole albums, and not just some individual songs :)
They have like a 100 best songs!! Try the albums Sirens, The Dungeons are Calling, Hall of the Mountain King, Edge of Thorns but still you won't have heard them all...
buen video
one of the best albums ever
What are the best songs from this band? I just found out about them!
Charles Walker Edge of Thorns, Morphine child, Power of the Night, Hall of the Mountain King
There are too many to list. It is personal preference from us fans.
That part ALWAYS seems to be missing, took me forever to find the full version. Wonder why?
Fucking awesome song !
fucking bad ass shit
I listening them from yesterday and i can say one thing about them... They are one of the best band in the universe.
greaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaat i love it^^
my favorite
@Wacke666 thumbs up! Cris O. himself wouldn't want for Alex to stay at his shadow.
Criss Oliva of course was an amazing guitar player, but I love Alex Skolnick from Testament as well. He did a great job here in my opinion.
Agreed. Alex is amazing, as is Criss. I think Alex did very well by Criss' on this entire album. He played to Savatage songs rather than trying put his personal mark on them. Much respect to 2 extremely talented musicians.
zak is a great singer, voice made for this band...jon is a god-who made this band.awesome, orignal, love em both-rock on and on and on.
valla que si no son master savatage son chingones y el metal never dies o ay mas musica tan grandiosa no la conosco va ...aca-2011...¡¡¡a.n.d..¡¡¡.go.
Lol, I cant tolerate John Oliva's vocals.. at all! So I only listen to the song where Zak is singing. Wake of magellan was programmed into my CD player to never play the songs Oliva is singing :)
Yes, An awesome video it is.... Unfortunately, I lost it.
AWESOME SONG
Has an awesome video clip hope someone can put it up

@Marshallsatten where do I hear what?
@MultipleScrotum Where do you hear this in the song?
1:03 on blows mw away.
Sad and totally blasting. Blows my *** away.
@ZePortouga What? LOL They sound ENTIRELY different. Still, Alex did a great job on this album(particularly his immortal soloing on Alone You Breathe).
@andrewmilios well, not exactly. Bass drum is for sure more solid EOT and up.
@Roxas70 Fuckin badass! Great way to discover. Whats your favorite song so far?
MultipleScrotum
I've loved Savatage since I was a teenager and I'm 46 now...my favorite song-not only of savatage but-of all time is, "When The Crowds Are Gone". Savatage kix ass-then,now,and forever!
@marock2020 what in the hell does "E SE VOCE ME PERMITE" mean????
It means, literally, "and if you allow me".
@reifav43 CRISS OLIVA FOREVER E SE VOCE ME PERMITE, SAVATAGE FOREVER.
Really nice one...
@fandangle22cc Yup its just an amazing song
..... The Night is growing dark
just awsome!!!
Fantastic.
Such a great ambiance on this song. The lyrics are great too and Alex Skolnick did a very good job on this album.
Criss Oliva Rest in Peace. You will always be remembered for your great talent.
