This band is so fricking underrated and underappreciated it's criminal. There isn't a band on Earth that draws goosebumps out of me like Savatage (and I've listened to them all).

The guy said best metal ballads and referred to three bands that are or have been metal bands. All of Savatage's music is autobiographical in some sense, they are different expressions of the same events, all musical paintings of the same subject, but from different perspectives, interconnected, all painted by the same artist. No masks, no agendas, no emotional barriers... Its what makes Savatage so special, and so beloved. And perhaps why they never made it to the mainstream. Savatage is a living, breathing entity, and we are just blessed to hear its thoughts and emotions.

I stopped it 12 seconds in. This is the only album I don't have. I love Skolnick for doing this album with them, but to this day I've never actually let myself listen to it.

Pure feeling

this is such a powerful song!  i remember playing this for a dearly departed friend's family on our way to his final resting place....very moving and touching for them as well as me...all his SIL could say was "WOW".  had to play it, just couldn't get it out of my head....he died too young of the nasty big C.  he, too, was a very talented musician, just hadn't gotten his big break yet.  too bad, the wasted beautiful years he had yet to show us w/ his truly beautiful spirit and insane talent he had left to share w/ us all...  it still breaks my heart "and what was meant to be"
