Why do you have to be so close-minded and thus completely unable to realise that a band should have a natural progression.....Satyricon's leaded to The Age Of Nero which is a brilliant album. The old school chills me too, however it cant be always blast beats and endless picking...you would certainly get tired too.....i also prefer the mighty 90s' but the latest work is splendid..black metal is about the dark side of our souls, the pure one...and it is still present in their music..hai!

Those "bratty" fans like you call them are mostly 12 year old kids who just got into metal, and they started bashing this because they somewhere heard that someone doesn't like the new sound of the band. Ignore them as much as possible, their whining isn't worth anyone's attention.

Yeah, I know you didn't call them sellouts, I wasn't targeting you, I meant more to target all those bratty fans who moan and whine about selling out and all that crap, you know the kids that just jump on the 'oh metallica sucks' bandwagon regardless of whether or not they like the band. I like what you said about their sound making more money than the contracts, that's a really good point. I too like Satyricon's older work but I just hate when people start bashing, as if they could do better.

Well, first of I didn't call them sellouts. I still think their songs are good, but I like the older one better. Anyways, my opinion is that if a band is good, they get enough money to pay bills, and have some spending money. Sure, most people would do anything just to come to that money they promise you in contracts, but they became well known for their original sound, and that sound may as well make more money than the contract. With the contact they lose more fans than they gain.

I think what many people fail to do, is put themselves in the artists' shoes. Look at any bands who are accused of selling out, from Metallica to Satyricon, I think it's easy for someone who hasn't had a successful musical act to sit back and point the finger. But just imagine a band who is given a huge contract, even if the band stands against commercialism, a huge contract must be near impossible to turn down because you still have to pay bills as a musician. Just something to think about.

@W806D They sound like a rock band now to me. It's simply too well produced, and the songs became straightforward and simple, and it's pretty much predictable, and the song structures are also defined. They've become everything black metal rebels against. I'm not some whining bitch that doesn't like change, but this is too much. The early stuff are landmarks, every song from the first 3 albums was an underground masterpiece. The turn of the millennium surely screwed up everything that was good.
