Sarah Brightman Pie Jesu Comments
  1. D.... S....

One of the most beautiful melodies ever written, is there a way this can become a Christmas standard?

  2. H.... M....

Beautiful human music speaking the {cat at the window^} meow...

  3. J.... M....

Andrew Lloyd Webber is an absolute genius. What a composer. This is one of his most beautiful, melodious songs. He is the only writer to have three plays on Broadway’ at the same time! 🥰👍☺️

  4. B.... t....

I’m sorry, but every time I see Pie Jesu I just think of Monty Python 😆😂

  5. M.... A....

    😭😭😖😻😘😍😇

  6. r.... t....

I feel so nostalgic of an era or time were in i'm not even born yet...(like in 50's of europe)

  7. T.... M....

Beautiful 💜 so peaceful it takes you to another world. Love love love

  8. r.... ....

I'm not Catholic and never will be. However I know that Mr. Webber wrote this Catholic mass for his father who had passed. Clearly he loved his father a great deal and that I appreciate. I know, whomever is not against us is for us. Jesus said that. I'm not against Catholics, I just have certain differences in biblical interpretation. We are still brothers and sisters walking a better road than the world as a whole. All of that being said, this song can still bring me to tears on occasion and it isn't easy for me to admit that. But while I'm still here I'll say it because facts are facts and I never try to hide anything in life. Besides, the bible says that there is nothing hidden that won't be revealed and many of us will find ourselves in a position where we are embarrassed when that day comes. There is none righteous, not one and no matter how hard we try we are still mere humans.

Thanks for reading whomever you may be,

Anyone realize how much the female singer looks and sounds like the YouTuber Linzor?

  10. L.... H....

Sublime. Highest praise word possible. I hardly ever use it.

  11. c.... ....

uploaded on my birthday, and my birthday is next week (:

  12. p.... ....

Ah Sarah Brightman the true Angel of Music

  13. C.... M....

I've been looking for this for a while, my god this song is so beautiful.

  14. J.... C....

My Father was a c*nt.. He Practically beat my mother to death when she was bald from 2 years of chemicals just to dredge her life for 2 or 3 weeks more with her children.. She died Sept 5 1981. My father moved his long time bit in 2 weeks later and we we're never allowed to speak of her after that.. Music (& the invention of the Walkman) gave my life something more Until I left home at 15 and became the man I think my mother would be proud of today. I always feel the real love in piece of music.. I remember hearing it and for once feeling I was allowed to grieve for my mother...

    J.... C....

Your post brought me to tears

    J.... C....

You won. I am sure she would be proud.

    J.... C....

Isn't it amazing what the arts allow us to process? I am sorry this happened to you. And so glad that this piece allowed you to grieve.

    J.... C....

I keep trying to finish my "reply," then the next song comes on and it's NOT Pie Jesu, and I turn away from YouTube, only to remember: Crap, I'll bet it threw away my reply! Let's try to get it all down on the page this time!
I am so sorry for your loss and for your experiences with your father (hope you never have to even use the word again).
And I am so glad that Lloyd Webber's "Pie Jesu" allowed you to grieve your mother's loss.

Your words about music are so true for me. I do art needlework (specifically, counted cross-stitch--which you might look up). Recently I completed a work that is about 15 x 15 inches in size. It shows a beautiful stylized butterfly in many hues, and it says, "Music gives my soul wings," and it DOES give my heart wings. It's got all the colors of the rainbow, plus a few extras (shaded yellows, greens, reds, blues). There's a huge lovely treble clef and the five lines (like when you see sheet music)...the five lines are also colorful renditions. You get the idea. And the black-outlined butterfly is filled with music notes, sharp signs, and flat signs...it's just all music & butterfy!

All this is to say: Never give up. I'm sure you're mothers IS proud of the man you are today. Music was certainly placed in my life for good reasons--being a proud piano and school band and orchestra performer, not to mention picking up acoustic guitar as a teenager--which carries on until this day--and I'm 72 years young). The music was so important for my younger sister and I were intimidated, and we were physically hurt--though never in a way that would show--except the occasional bruise--and brother would say, "Wouldja look at that!?" "Did you fall down the stairs, Marilyn? Or maybe run into a door jam?

So, yes, music was and is my solace...hearing it, playing it, singing it--both with guitar and with my hubby in our church choir. Hubby, BTW, is a great guy--and my brother is now as well--after these many years.
If you get the chance--it would profit you to learn to play an instrument, or at least be sure you sing along with the radio!

Bless you, Jonwayne (I love your name!)

Who’s here for the “LONDON” and Peggy Carter’s funeral scene in Captain America Civil War?

    C.... ....

I'm not but (truly) thanks for the warning.
    bc ... omg.

  16. C.... a....

It has taken me nearly 30years to find this song! I can’t believe it....

    C.... a....

    My congrats!!!)))

    C.... a....

    Thank you Rene ☺️

  17. Z.... S....

Love this piece but why is no-one commenting on how horrific Sarah Brightman is??? Probs one of the worst recordings of this piece. The lad is not bad to be fair to him tho...

  18. k.... ....

Lyrics (no need to thank me):

    Pie Jesu domine
    Dona eis Requiem

    Pie Jesu domine

    Dona eis requiem
    *faceplank*
    Pie Jesu domine

    Dona eis requiem

    Hail Monty Python

    k.... ....

Great, now whenever I hear this that's what I'll hear in my head. :)

  19. M.... F....

my mom wants this song for her funeral I hope I never have to use it

    M.... F....

the duo at my dad's funeral sang it ... SO perfectly (the clarity of the high notes is tough to hit in harmony and the nailed it)

IT WAS HORRIFYING. a third of the people were fucking sobbing. literally NO ONE could choke out "and peace be with you" for the call/response right after.

    don't do it.

    not kidding.

and it will ruin the song for you and everyone else forever - like NOTHING else played ever will be.

(fyi, "On Eagle's Wings" is tough to get through w/o choking up on any random Sunday, so that should be a non-starter too.)

  20. K.... G....

So this is what happened to Andrew Lloyd Webber - Requiem concert - part 5?

  23. V.... ....

What a fantastic piece of music with superb delivery. But what an odd video???

  24. K.... B....

Beyond beautiful. This makes me want to believe there is a God.

  25. c.... ....

who the hell made Sarah stand out in the cold and wind and sing! 😂😂😂

  26. K.... P....

By far one of the best from Sarah Brightman. It just touches you right in the heart

  27. R.... C....

Inspired by two separate tragedies—a journalist who had interviewed him just weeks before dying in Northern Ireland as a result of the IRA conflicts, and the story of a Cambodian boy who was forced to murder his mutilated sister or be executed himself—Andrew Lloyd Webber took to writing music as a way to cope with and express his grief. When he finished his Requiem, Webber dedicated it to his father who passed away in 1982. Webber's Requiem is his most personal composition, and his only fully completed classical work.

  28. S.... B....

    For me soul stirring!

  29. M.... K....

I’m not even a particularly religious person. But damn... this is beautiful

  30. L.... T....

The sound always fades in and out for me. Horrible!

  31. c.... ....

I can see why the castrati were invented. Beautiful voice.

  32. P.... C....

Beautiful beautiful beautiful I am so at peace with this in July 2019 . What more can I say ?❤❤❤

  33. A.... T....

I still believe that Anna Netrebko’s version is superb. This is the matter of taste.

  34. I.... J....

I'm crying because I last saw this as a child in the '80's.Gobsmacked then and even more now.

  35. m.... m....

    100 people have no taste

  36. m.... m....

She looked incredibly beautiful in this video, and I love the echo they added to her voice. It literally sounds like a church echo.

    m.... m....

    Echo????? Uh.........it's a DUET........**sigh**

  37. s.... s....

great music, bad singing from Ms. Brightman! such a shame.

  38. R.... A....

what amazing and overwhelming song. It really takes my breath away with those sweet voices.

  39. S.... P....

Wow, what year is this? Sarah looks so so young.

    S.... P....

1985 just before Phantom, though it looks like the music video was made a little later on.

  40. c.... t....

    Linda musica

  41. m.... ....

It's like a sonic illusion about how human voices can sound like that, two great voices together. With their intonations they sound like other-worldly instruments from heaven. The senselessness of war is an important message, yet hard to see. It's a requiem but wish it wasn't after a bombing, or maybe lifting to sky and clouds of heaven-like scenes... yet still a great very well done video with great set and costumes and very meaningful WWII scene, or scene for all wars, and of course a great , musical performance, plus the choir too. Such a beautiful masterpiece of composing too.

    m.... ....

Out of curiosity, when is this supposed to be set? When you say bombing, I assume you don't mean WWII, as the fireman using a thermal imaging camera would probably be an anachronism if so.

  42. L.... C....

I'm no longer a young person. I was a teen when Jesus Christ Superstar was so glorious (played that vinyl album ALWAYS!). But ALW's music just keeps getting more and more stunning, and the performances more and more other-wordly. Simply amazing.

  43. W.... ....

Truly a masterpiece!!! Sarah Brightman at her best and most elegant!!!

  44. i.... s....

    Wow xxxx

  45. A.... S....

    Love it

  46. C.... H....

Awesome song. Thinking of the Sri Lankan Easter Dead.

  47. 1.... M....

I used to watch this video on vhs when i was little. Such a deep emotional song it has stayed with me my whole life.

  48. S.... Q....

    Absolutely heavenly- from an atheist,

  49. a.... ....

    Beautiful!!!
BUT RUINED BY AN AD OF A COMPUTER WAR GAME!!!!!!!

    a.... ....

It always gets me that these advertisers stick all kinds of annoying ads in here now. They don't care as long as they can sell a product.

  50. o.... c....

I literally cried listening to this on holiday.. No reason middle of afternoon.. 30year old man tears down cheeks such precise beauty....

    o.... c....

Way to go, Oliver. You are a great example to all of us. I can only imagine what happens when you listen to the entire album.

  51. s.... w....

The boy kid just sounds so amazing

    s.... w....

I know! I search all over Youtube just to hear more performances from him other than Pie Jesu. There were some of his other recital recordings from Winchester Cathedral. He's now the music director at the prestigious St. Peter's school. His voice goes deep into my soul in a heartbeat... :''')

  52. a.... ....

    what year was this recorded/videoed?!

  53. N.... S....

Everytime I listen to this song I have to cook and cut onions so my wife doesn’t realize I am moved to tears

  55. H.... K....

    M.... K....

  61. P.... S....

his voice like a smokey fog horn. exquisite

  62. P.... S....

just loved this as a kid

  63. M.... K....

This is really beautiful. For some reason this song came into my head earlier today, the tune. I couldn't remember where I had heard it before. Then I remembered the word "requiem" was in it. Did a google search and found several recordings of this. I think this is the version that I originally heard but I don't know where. It wasn't on you tube. I think it was on a cd but I can't find any cds that I own that have it on it. It's going to drive me crazy until I find out!

  64. N.... C....

does anyone know where I can find the alto voice of this song only?

    N.... C....

alto???? This was written for, at the time his wife, Sarah Brightman who is a beautiful lyric soprano and a boy soprano.......NO ALTO here!!!!!

  65. N.... C....

does anyone know where I can find the alto voice of this song only?

    N.... C....

Alto??? This is written for lyric soprano and boy soprano, No alto here!

  66. I.... C....

    you make me cry!..

  67. G.... M....

Same LYRICS used in Monty Python and the Holy Grail, when the monks bring out the "Holy Hand Grenade of Antioch." to blow up the killer rabbit. "Pie Jesu Domine, Dona eis requiem."

    G.... M....

No shit its an old catholic prayer. If anything the monks predate it before any musical interpretation.

    G.... M....

Duh.........it's from the Roman Catholic funeral mass................

  68. s.... s....

    Great song so moving

  69. A.... T....

    Dumnezeesc de frumos.

  70. e.... R....

what is the film in the background?

    e.... R....

The video was created for the song, it is not from a movie

  71. J.... S....

  80. T.... D....

  81. E.... G....

This song moved me to tears.....

  82. K.... M....

    Beautiful !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  83. A.... S....

Love this song and it is one of favorites.

  84. j.... 6....

Played this at my grandmother’s funeral. Beautiful piece of music.

  85. P.... M....

It’s weird to say, but every time I hear this song I cry a little bit, not because of how beautiful it is, but because of how I’ve associated it so much with World War 1. Lest we forget.

  86. J.... D....

Crikey, I remember Sarah Brightman when she was lead vocals with the group ' Hot Gossip ', lol. Their most successful song was ' I Lost My Heart to a Starship Trooper ' She and her group had the holy rollers up in arms, with their skimpy costumes and raunchy,(for the times), dance routines. She was something of a sexy rock chick, lol. That was back in 1978 when I was an 18 year old. Was watching her on day time TV last week where she was talking about her latest venture and her involvement with training to be a cosmonaut, though this has come to an end. She has an incredible vocal style and deserves to be at the top of her game. And this Pie Jesu is the definitive version.

    J.... D....

Hot Chocolate on the Kenny Everett show? :[-)

    J.... D....

    yes indeed! definitive version!

  87. X.... X....

    Life can be very sad

    SIE SINGT DAS NICHT ::::ALIRN

  89. A.... L....

Esta bellísima Obra Maestra me hace llorar.

  90. H.... J....

I don't see the point in a Mass for the dead when they had opportunity for repentance to eternal life while they were living. There is no rest for unforgiven sin once one passes into eternity, but condemnation.

    H.... J....

    Learn Christian theology, twit.

    H.... J....

@Thomas Moessner The Mass has no biblical theology either of OT or NT but a fabrication, a nonsense human invention. You need to define you terminology what 'Christian' theology is, Twit.

    H.... J....

@Thomas Moessner Uhhhh...Catholics are not Christians, in fact, Catholics imprisoned, tortured and killed Christians all through the dark ages even up to colonial times.

  91. g.... ....

    Boiiiiiiiiiii

  92. M.... G....

I heard this the first time on October 2nd, 1985 when Rock Hudson died and the news played it with a visual tribute to his life in film.

My dad died two months later to the day of brain cancer and this song was a comfort to me in my grief.

    M.... G....

I'm sorry Michael for your loss. I hope you are doing well. ❤

    M.... G....

OMG - I watched the very same news coverage of Rock Hudson's death with the Pie Jesu video playing as the backdrop. I was a mess. The song has remained a part of me ever since. Others have commented here about how each time they hear the music part of them begins to cry. I feel the same way. One of the most sublime and deeply felt musical creations of any time.

  93. F.... C....

Oh I nearly don’t recognize them!! That’s the first time for me to see them at such a young age

    F.... C....

    Amazing talent, both of them
