Sara Groves is the fastest way to get centered in Christ. In any two songs she breaks your prideful heart and reminds you why Christ came to die and how very much this whole world desperately needs Him. Thank you Sara.

how many times can i dislike this filth!!!!! Such an Awkwardly sounding record. This is a Terrible Cover of the original "Sweet Honey In The Rock - Eye On The Prize" and they gave no credit !!! I hope She loses her voice in the AM.

It's a pretty awful version that seems not to have any awareness of the song's meaning. But it's not Sweet honey's song. It's a traditional song that got modified lyrics in I think the '60s, maybe the late '50s. Sweet honey's version is probably my favourite version but Mahalia Jackson's version with the original lyrics is probably my favourite version of all the tunes using this melody.

The meaning of this song goes well beyond the black American struggle of the past 200 years. It's about looking to heaven and the prize of eternity with Christ. Like Paul and Silas 2000 years ago when flogged and imprisoned sang praises to God at midnight whilst chained in a dungeon (as in Acts chapter 16). No matter who we are or what we suffer, God can use that suffering and comfort us as we keep our eyes on Jesus. When Paul and Silas praised God the prisoner doors opened and they didn't even try to escape, because a greater freedom is found in the presence of God, that is the foundation of all human freedoms which we hold dear.

To my hurting sisters out there..... I Love the way Sara Groves encourages us with this!

Sweet Honey in the Rock have a version of this song that would be great for a church singing and discussion of the civil rights movement that used it, which is certainly what it makes me think of.
