Sara Groves - Eyes On The Prize Lyrics

Paul and Silas bound in jail
Got no money for to go their bail
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

Paul and Silas thought they were lost
The dungeon shook and the chains fell off
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

Freedom's name is mighty sweet
And one day soon we are gonna meet
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

I got my hand on the gospel plow
Won't take nothing for my journey now
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

The wait is slow, and we've so far to go
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

The wait is slow, and we've so far to go
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

Only chain a man can stand
Is that chain of hand on hand
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

Ain't no man on earth control
The weight of glory on a human soul.
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on.

The wait is slow, and we've so far to go
Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on

The wait is slow, and we've so far to go
Keep your eyes on the prize [x3]

When you see a man walk free,
It makes you dream of jubilee.

When you see a child walk free,
It makes you dream of jubilee.

When you see a family free,
It makes you dream of jubilee.

Keep your eyes on the prize, hold on.

    Peacefull voice ....🌷🌷🌷

  3. Tom Klock

I wish there was a way to "thumbs up" this song a hundred times. Such a blessing to the body of Christ--and to me personally. God bless and may many find true freedom in Jesus.

  4. Jen Jahromi

Sara Groves is the fastest way to get centered in Christ. In any two songs she breaks your prideful heart and reminds you why Christ came to die and how very much this whole world desperately needs Him. Thank you Sara.

how many times can i dislike this filth!!!!! Such an Awkwardly sounding record. This is a Terrible Cover of the original "Sweet Honey In The Rock - Eye On The Prize" and they gave no credit !!! I hope She loses her voice in the AM.

    Ei’ríġ Proinsias Dammantaċ Ó Gamhna.

It's a pretty awful version that seems not to have any awareness of the song's meaning. But it's not Sweet honey's song. It's a traditional song that got modified lyrics in I think the '60s, maybe the late '50s. Sweet honey's version is probably my favourite version but Mahalia Jackson's version with the original lyrics is probably my favourite version of all the tunes using this melody.

    Michael NewZealand

The meaning of this song goes well beyond the black American struggle of the past 200 years. It's about looking to heaven and the prize of eternity with Christ. Like Paul and Silas 2000 years ago when flogged and imprisoned sang praises to God at midnight whilst chained in a dungeon (as in Acts chapter 16). No matter who we are or what we suffer, God can use that suffering and comfort us as we keep our eyes on Jesus. When Paul and Silas praised God the prisoner doors opened and they didn't even try to escape, because a greater freedom is found in the presence of God, that is the foundation of all human freedoms which we hold dear.

+Hearon Trackz im just joking too im not one of these weirdo ass internet guy lol but I just got through watching Malcolm x and Black Panther Party n this white chick steals a song about black struggle and gets away with not giving the original artists any credit.

    Michael NewZealand

Look up Acts 16 in the Bible. The song writers stole the whole idea from there:) lol.

My prayers go out to Pastor Saeed who is in an Iranian prison right not.  He is keeping His eyes on the prize. What an example!

  12. icaru34

Sweet Honey in the Rock have a version of this song that would be great for a church singing and discussion of the civil rights movement that used it, which is certainly what it makes me think of.

  18. fharrell100

Because Paul & Silas never lost hope, they did keep their eyes on the prize & their HIGHEST CALLING OF CHRIST JESUS! That's why their were SINGING PRAISES TO THE KING! GOD WAS PLEASED & THE EARTH QUAKED THE DOORS OF THE JAIL WERE OPENED AND THE CHAINS FAIL OFF! ALL BECAUSE THEY NEVER LET GO OF THE PROMISES OF GOD'S TRUTH IN HIS WORD! #HoldOn2ThePromisesOfGodsWord #JesusChristIsLord @walkintheway

It is her rendition of the Civil Rights song, which was based on the hymn "hold on," also known as "gospel plow." (And I didn't just know that off the top of my head) :)

Keep looking upwards. Although I cannot comprehend what you are going through, I do know that Jesus hears every prayer and is watching over you and your son at all times. Be strong, faithful and diligent in your fellowship with Jesus. He will free you from your mental prison and your son from real bars by providing the rest and peace in his presence. Psalm 37:3-6 God bless you.

theological commitment to Christ...less chance of bias). Anywho, I would just like to recommend his books The Case for Christ, The Case for a Creator, The Case for Faith, and The Case for Easter (the one I read that was really short :P). I doubt you could regret reading them, regardless of the outcome. Definitely worth my time.

  33. captivatedbyChrist

Hey, I have nothing to do with IJM's ministry but as a Christian I really appreciate your respect for it! I just finished reading "The Case for Easter" by Lee Strobel and am thoroughly glad I read it. I don't know whether or not you've heard of Lee Strobel's books or maybe even read them, but you seem like a person who may be open to hearing and analysing/critising evidence (it's especially helpful that Strobel began an aethist dead-set on proving the impossibility of prior

  36. killise1

This is timely in my life. I hold on to Him who raised the dead and still does.
Thank you Sister for the encouragement.

  37. dissonantsonorant

I'm not a Christian. However, I'm continually in awe of the work that IJM does.

My -only- gripe with IJM is that someone like me, who finds no evidence that the Bible is true or that God exists, would be unable to help contribute to the vital work that they do.

In spite of that sole problem, keep on doing your important work, IJM!

  38. Michael Jenkins

Yes keep your eyes on the prize!

The prize is Jesus and the abundant life He shares with all who would receive. Sometimes it takes some effort on our part to help release the captives but He promises freedom. Thank you Sara...a special voice with a special word for us to remember.
