Sara Evans - Southern Cross Lyrics

Got outta town on a boat to the southern islands
Sailing a reach 'fore the following sea
She was making for the trade on the outside
And the downhill to Pape'ete
Off the wind on this heading lies the Marquesas
We got 80 feet of a waterline nicely making way
In a noisy bar in Avalon I tried to call you
But on a midnight watch I realized why twice you ran away

Think about
Think about how many times I have fallen
Spirits are using me
Larger voices calling
What heaven brought you and me
Cannot be forgotten

I have been around the world
Looking for that woman girl
Who knows love can endure
And you know it will
And you know it will

When you see the southern cross for the first time
You understand now why you came this way
Because the truth you might be running from is so small
But it's as big as the promise, the promise of the coming day
So I'm sailing for tomorrow, my dreams are dying
And my love is an anchor tied to you tight with a silver chain
I have my ships and all my flags are flying
She is all that I have left and music is her name

Think about
Think about how many times I have fallen
Spirits are using me
Larger voices calling
What heaven brought you and me
Cannot be forgotten

I have been around the world
Looking for that woman girl
Who knows love can endure
And you know it will, oh
And you know it will

So we cheated and we lied and we tested
And we never failed to fail, it was the easiest thing to do
You will survive being bested
Somebody fine will come along, make me forget about loving you
At the southern cross

Love this version of Southern Cross! A Great mix of Two of my favorites: Sara Evans and Stephen Stills

Music to the heart, thinking of many times I have fallen, this song stops me from failing and sailing off sea, ships and flags in the Southern wind catching the Eastern breeze listening to the Southern call, this song warms the heart, love it so much.

Love Sara Evans and southern Cross, but it just doesn't sound right sung by Sara. Sorry.

I think Sara's version is beautiful because she has taken on a song that would not normally seem to be her style..and she totally conquers it.

Timc1145 There are some songs that shouldn't be covered by other artists. This is one of them. It is perfection in its original form.

@The Komzik. I have to disagree. There are no songs that "shouldn't be covered by other artists." It is an honor to the original's artists when a great star (like Evans) covers their song even if it might not quite meet the standard set by the original.
