Sandy Denny - Easy To Slip Lyrics

It's so easy to slip
It's so easy to fall
And let your memory drift
And do nothin' at all
All the love that you missed
All the people that you can't recall
Do they really exist at all

Well my whole world seems so cold today
All the magic's gone away
And our time together melts away
Like the sad melody I play

Well I don't want to drift forever
In the shadow of your leaving me
So I'll light another cigarette
And try to remember to forget

It's so easy to slip
It's so easy to fall
And let your memory drift
And do nothin' at all
All the love that you missed
All the people that you can't recall
Do they really exist at all

The ending reminds me of the the old Sat.Night Live .

  2. M.... H....

Excellent cover, but Sandy is waaaaay too low in the mix.

Like the groove. Great LF song.

This is a great Little Feat song and Lowell George's singing and slide playing (including a killer solo) on the original are superb. Sandy gives it a good go, but she was never a rock singer and the song doesn't really suit the purity of her voice, which is overpowered at times by the funky backing. But hey, she was a game girl.

Sandy Denny was such a great songwriter that I find it hard to understand why she/'they' decided to include at least two 'modern' cover versions on each of her albums. In my opinion they were often inferior to her own songs and did not display her voice at its best.Having said that, her versions of traditional songs such as 'Banks Of The Nile' and 'Bruton Town' were awesome.I find it hard to believe that 'Rendezvous' was overproduced to hide the fact that her voice was damaged. To me,all of her solo albums sound over-produced/orchestrated-I prefer the solo (often demo) versions of many of her songs with just piano or acoustic guitar and her fabulous voice.

I don't think her voice was damaged, everyones voice changes as they get older, she was never going to sound the same as she did in early 20's at 30 odd. Listen to songs like "one more chance" she recorded around this time, some of her best vocal performances ever I think

Like Sandy, but in this one the guitars are just a tad overpowering against her voice, so sadly, I ticked thumbs down.

The 'overpowering' guitar is courtesy of Richard Thompson. You're welcome.

I have the Little Feat version but had not heard this before today. What a great version.

@Guitarity It's on the 2005 Island Records re-issue edition of "Rendezvous". The song is originally be Little Feat.

Oh crykee I thought I would known alls songs from Sandy, but this one I had no idea, please tell me from wich album is the song, thanks

  12. S.... ....

@JustAintthatWay This entire album "Rendezvous" is often commented on as over-produced. Many believe it's because Sandy's voice was no longer at its best, and they put in a lot of backing to try to cover it.

Can't see my comment referred to - trust it wasn't snarky as I love both the original & this cover. It is NOT an easy song to sing (just watch a few YT covers of it) and Denny does it wonderfully.

  13. S.... ....

I agree about her debut album being her best.
Sadly, by the time she got to "Rendezvous", she had done her voice quite a bit of damage :)

  14. S.... ....

The extra backing {like the extra orchestration on this and her previous album} are believed to be attempts to hide the damage done to her voice by drink and drugs :(

It's a Little Feat song Easy to Slip appears on the album Sailin' Shoes. They were another great band that didn't get as much recognition as they deserved. Theirs is still the best version. I wish they didn't put so much backup vocals on Sandy's - she didn't need them. Nice to hear this, though.

It's available as a bonus track on the re-issue of Sandy's album "Rendezvous" :)
