I grew up in a Pentecostal church that was majority white/Hispanic, but there was a good representation of pretty much all races from what I can remember. We had a 20 member choir who could belt out the most amazing gospel you’ve ever heard. One of the sisters would rewrite existing songs or simply speed up the tempo or change the key so songs like “My god is more than enough” went from slow songs to absolute bangers man. When those ladies got singing that church was hopping. The only sad part about it is that I can’t find many of those songs I grew up with being sung that way. They only exist in my memory and maybe on a few CD’s in the houses of those choir members.
My mom was in the choir but she doesn’t have any. I would give anything to be able to hear those songs again. There are so many good memories attached to them! Even as I write this I can hear sister Paine belting out those high notes...
