Sam Cooke - Yeah Man Lyrics
Do you like good music
Crazy 'bout music
Any old music
Yeah, yeah
Do you like all the dances
As long as they are swinging
What, what
Let's try some others dances
I don't know which one
Let's try to do the monkey
All right, yeah
Do you like all the dances
I'm crazy 'bout the dances
Let's try the watutsi
I love to do the tutsi
Put the twist with the tutsi
Let's try a new dance
Dig what I tell you
Got to do what I tell you
You're on a football field
You're down in the huddle
Run for that touchdown
You're on a baseball field now
Your bat's in your hand now
Swing for that homerun
You're in the middle of an ocean
Ship had gone done now
Swim our life now
Swim, swim, got to go
I'm going home

Sam Cooke Yeah Man Comments
Great energy
This is a fun mess around recording and still sound damn good
J. W. Alexander, Sam Cooke's business partner, sued both Otis Redding and Arthur Conley for appropriating substantial portions Sam Cooke's "Yeah Man" for "Sweet Soul Music". A settlement was reached in which Cooke's name was posthumously added to the writer credits, and Redding agreed to record some songs in the future from/for Kags Music, a Cooke–Alexander enterprise. Not sure if Otis ever got the chance to do so, as he was killed in December of 1967, exactly three years after Sam.
Love you Sam Cooke
Too bad Otis redding stole this tune from Sam Cooke , thought he could get away with it . they got away , but they didn't, get too far . Sam has the credit now . Sam Cooke , the world,s greatest singer and songwriter .
Robert Chatman Otis & Sam were friends, and Sam’s untimely death shattered Otis. Sam was his hero as a singer, songwriter, businessman and producer. This was just another of O’s tributes to Sam and all the soul greats who followed. The songwriting credits on this track are Cooke-Redding-Conley, as well it should.
I like both versions a lot for each one's own distinct qualities, but too many people have no idea that Sam's even exists.
Abbott Cooper too many people have no idea that SAM even existed. They know the melodies but don’t know of the singer.
1t Productions Very true.
1t Productions message to my people it's our responsibility , to let our youth no there history Sam Cooke is one of the greatest singers of all times author Conley sounds like Sam Cooke that's why Otis Redding picked him up they wrote Sweet Soul Music from yeah man by Sam Cooke everything was done correctly cuz Sam Cooke's name appears on the writers credit rest in peace Sam Otis Arthur my mentor skip boardley jr.
I think they both made a hit with the song I love them both Sam Cooke n Arthur Connelly
I always though this was Sam Cooke, even the Arthur Conley version. LOL ! That's poetic justice.
YEAH MAN
Sam you the man! For years I thought this was Arthur Conleys tune but no! Shame he couldn't credit you in the list of greats in his version/rip off. James Brown - really???
slipnpitch he did him one better, sam cooke is listed as a songwriter on the Arthur Conley version, meaning his estate has raked in millions, and rightfully so, the melody is from sam cooke.
He did credit him if you listen properly youl hear it. And yes arthur made him millions through his song. And otis reading. Love them all tbeyr the greats of soul
slipnpitch, I agree. That's why Arthur Conley was a one hit wonder. Same is a all time legend.
Pure Sam Cooke. My favorite A change is gonna come. I old enough to remember the day he died. Very sad. Lost a great singer and song writer!
Did you ever get to meet or see Sam Cooke?
Rosetta Jenkins yes I remember the day too , I’m 66 now We came up during a great period of music! Miss those times . The Righteous Bros . did a nice cover of change is gonna come On the soul and inspiration album
In 1967 Arthur Lee Conley met Otis Redding and together they rewrote the Sam Cooke song "Yeah Man" from his posthumous album "Shake" into "Sweet Soul Music". Released in 1967 it was Arthur Lee's his biggest hit, selling over a million copies, was certified gold, reached No 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100 and was a top ten hit across much of Europe. Sam Cooke's business partner, sued both Redding and Conley for plagiarizing the melody from "Yeah Man" and settlement was reached in which Sam Cooke's name was added to the writer credits.
Sweet Soul Music ROCKS!!! so does this but Sweet Soul music has it all
Johnnralph thanks for this. Always loved SSM but this is terrific too
And Conley never even mentioned Cook in the song!
Arthur Conley sounds so much better. The family should be thank Conley !!!! Cook sound anemic.
So why didn't this version make it big. I think probably due to poor promotion of the album and maybe the situation surrounding his death. He had a private record label. This could be the reason many people hardly know about this song.
Oh how i wish i could've been in the studio when he recorded this..sounds like he's having so much fun..bet it was!
El original sweet soul music. Mucha gente conoce la versión de Arthur conley , pero no conoce el original de Sam Cooke.
