Sam Cooke - Soothe Me Lyrics

Soothe me baby, soothe me
Soothe me with your kindness
For you know your powerful love is
Soothing to me
Soothe me baby, soothe me
Soothe me with your kindness
For you know your powerful love is
Soothing to me

Oh how I used to ramble
And how I used to roam
Oh but since I met that baby of mine
All I do is stay at home
And I tell her:

Soothe me baby, soothe me
Soothe me with your kindness
For you know your powerful love is
Soothing to me

Oh, I used to have a lot of girls
Have them big and small
Oh, but since I met that baby of mine
I know no other girls at all
I just tell her

Soothe me baby, soothe me
Soothe me with your kindness
For you know your powerful love is
Soothing to me

It's so soothing to me
Your love, babe, is soothing to me

I never recall hearing this song before and my hair is gray. I think the words in this song are powerful. ~ There IS just ONE word I would change: I would change the word "girls" to women or ladies because girls are for little boys to be platonic playground playmates with if you KNOW what I mean!

The legendary singer/musician Sam Cooke was also an activist. A millionaire several times over. A true rarity and great accomplishment during that time for white or Black recording artists.

He was truly waaaay' ahead of his time. He believed in performing, writing, producing, publishing and owning his own music catalogue.

His untimely death at age 33 under extremely suspicious circumstances has led to multiple conspiracy theories. One of which I fully believe.

Read up on him. He was truly a visionary that was upended in his prime.

He refused to play to segregated audiences ; instead wanting All people to enjoy his music [Together].Sparking and awakening the debate about an artist's power and responsibility in effecting change in an unjust world.

Sam Cooke wrote and sang (he wrote many songs) the inimitable "A CHANGE IS GONNA' COME " as a protest song (much like Billie Holidays " STRANGE FRUIT that protested  injustice and lynchings) that literally speaks volumes even to this very day about injustice.

Rest In Peace Mr Cooke. Thank you, Thank you Thank you for your timeless music and your civil rights efforts. That brought Africans closer to receiving true justice in America. Because it stimulated dialogue and fostered discussion about the human condition during the tumultuous 60s.

You sang everything! And, you did it all so impeccably well. Classical, standards, country, romantic ballads, folklore, gospel, blues, RnB, Big Band just everything! You had a signature voice that stood out on all of your selections. All that you touched you made your own.

You gained me even as a child admirer and millions of others as lifetime fans . You made people [think and feel] deeply through your gift of song.

This is my personal tribute and Salute! To you.

    Sam Cooke FOREVER!

Sam's Gospel roots are showing ! lol

The Soul Stirrers recorded a version called 'Lead Me Jesus', which apart from the words is identical to Soothe Me'. It was recorded 20 September 1961 (before Sam Cooke recorded his). It was included on the LP 'Presenting Gospel Pearls' the authors are Sam Cooke and Le Roy Crume; the lead vocal is by Jimmie Outler.
The Simms Twins original of Soothe Me was recorded on 5 June 1961.

I am sooooo thankful to have spent my youth growing up in what I consider the absolute best era of American music. I  don't think the young people of today have any idea what they have missed out on. But at least they can enjoy the superb recordings. It is now up to us "old folks" to introduce this music and our times to them.

    M.... ....

Missed?  Oh they got it.  All those hours in the car, CD's, MP's, ... where do you think you got your tastes from?  Your parents gave you the foundation.  My parents were from Detroit and they brought a tidal wave of music into my life.  I grew up on Motown, Stax, Philly Soul, Doo Wop, and I passed on to my kids.  Lets not forget, a lot of crap came out of the 50's-70's.  We just had a chance to forget about it.

    M.... ....

    @Necronomicon A
But Sam, Sam is the best.  Although, I do like Sam & Dave's version better.  This is still great.

    M.... ....

+MrJimc2 I know what you mean I grew up in the same era and I think that we were truly Blessed also

    M.... ....
