Sam Cooke - Jeanie With The Light Brown Hair Lyrics
I dream of Jeanie with the light brown hair
Borne like a vapor, on the summer's air
I see her tripping where the bright streams play
Happy as the daisies that dance on her way
Many were the blithe birds that warbled them o'er
I dream of Jeanie with the light brown hair
Floating, like a vapor on the soft summer air
I long for Jeanie with the day dawn smile
Radiant in gladness, warm winning guile
I hear her melodies, like joys gone by
Sighing round my heart o'er the fond hopes that die
Sighing like the night wind and sobbing like the rain
Wailing for the lost one that comes not again
Nevermore to find her where the bright waters flow

this is gorgeous. Never heard Sam sing it before. ty so much for posting.
Played this at my mum's funeral in December. She had light brown hair when my dad met her, he called her Jeanie from that day forward, he would often sing the so g to her. I miss them both.
if i hear that song, i"ll remember the day`s when my dad and i see western movie`s,i have tears in my eyes.I miss him a lot.
I feel safe when I hear this : )
I love Sam Cooke's style of singing - it does have the ability to touch one's soul. Thank you Sam Cooke.
OMG What a sweet gem!!! Stephen Foster would cry in honor of his hard work and own tormented soul. Just timeless...hot summer day aside a river ... weeping willow and this voice eddying through on breeze ... No other like Sam Cooke ... melts in the mind ...
Chris Stapleton needs to do this one. He’s the only contemporary singer that could do it justice.
Wonderful song and nobody sings it better. When Sam Cooke died who knows what we were robbed of
I dream of Jeannie with the light brown hair
Borne, like a vapor, on the summer air
I see her tripping where the bright streams play
Happy as the daisies that dance on her way
Many were the wild notes her merry voice would pour
Many were the blithe birds that warbled them o'er
I dream of Jeannie with the light brown hair
Floating, like a vapor, on the soft, summer air
I long for Jeannie with the day dawn smile
Radiant in gladness, warm with winning guile
I hear her melodies, like joys gone by
Sighing round my heart o'er the fond hopes that die
Sighing like the night wind and sobbing like the rain
Wailing for the lost one that comes not again
I long for Jeannie, and my heart bows low
Never more to find her where the bright waters flow
Thank you for sharing the lyrics to this wonderful song sung by Sam Cooke.
An Angel singing for us a very, very short moment: God bless you!
I usually prefer more traditional versions of classic songs, but this is absolutely wonderful.
If you dont know what love feels like... listen to this.
Beautiful!
The best singer ever
My grandma used to play this on her piano. Written by Stephen Foster at around the time of the Civil War
Just like Michael Jackson
Sam Cooke is as great an American singer as there ever will be. As Terry said, "A true gift from God." He makes my life better every day. His artistry a treasure forever.
charliejdk unfortunately he was ripped from this earth by evils that had/have no empathy, compassion or regard for anyone or anything but the entity they represent and serve , it's just more concealed today .....SAD to take such tallent at a early age , for the greed in man's hearts will one day condemn us all.... If your wondering what I am speaking about there is a lot of information regarding his death and circumstances surrounding it and many others who have went to soon in the same ..... cointelpro also had taken many lives ...unfortunately you don't hear what goes on behind the scenes, but once in awhile if your lucky to know someone who is creditable or the curtains are pulled back a little to see the true nature and how dark it can was and still is in some cases ....
Beautiful.

A very sad loss of talent. To be shot by the landlord of some hooker..
Thanks for Comments.
Prettiest song I ever heard - it took years for something to beat Bob Dylan's "Boots of Spanish Leather " - this is it.
Arthur Powell
I grew up hearing this sung by many artists but never one better than Sam Cookes.
