Sam Brown - Your Time Is Your Own Lyrics

We were in a bar you and I,
The room was dull and brown just like the sky.
The clock went tick tock with its hands on my hands,
Conversation was a farce,
We were off in cuckoo land.

Everybody knows
When you're wasting your time
It's your own
Does it matter though
It always has been that way
Any wind that blows
Can change the face of things
As we know them
Everybody knows
Your time is your own
Your time is your own

The other day I slept for twenty-one hours,
The bedroom was light and filled with fragrant flowers.
My subconscious needed to be left alone,
I took the time to take my time
And make myself at home.

Everybody knows
When you're wasting your time
It's your own
Does it matter though
It always has been that way
Any wind that blows
Can change the face of things
As we know them
Everybody knows
Your time is your own
Your time is your own

I've been looking for this album for years. Never thinking it would be on Youtube, what a treat it is. She is criminally overlooked as a singer/songwriter. Who knows maybe someone will see the light and reissue this beautiful album. Thankyou Godbluffer for sharing this astonishing piece of music.

First saw her singing Horse to water G H's tribute concert. Have loved her ever since, such a beautiful voice, such a talented performer

Seen her live twice, absolutely fantastic, especially when she was a surprise guest with Jools on stage. I love the way she sings with an English accent and doesn't give in to the lazy way of singing words like most do these days. I didn't know this about the album, that's why it hits home on a few of the songs.

    I 😍 love you Sam Brown 😘

In my top 5 favorite vocalists of all time. In fact she might hold the number 1 spot!

  6. c.... ....

Here because I saw her on the George Harrison concert that they have been playing over an over on PBS. Definitely a (relatively) hidden gem, at least here in the USA. She is unique!

I appreciate and share your passion for Sam Brown's work - particularly 43 Minutes, but I wish you had left out the supposed negative opinion of others in your description. Sam's work is excellent.

Absolutely love this album. What an incredible singer.

Agree. This is gold. "Fear of Life" is even better.

Saw her do a very intimate charity gig in a church somewhere in South Bucks (Marlow ? not sure). Can't remember how I ended up there or even if I was supposed to be there but it was early 90's and I'm pretty sure she was performing this album. The performance was fantastic and I remember casting her a glance at one point and her beaming back at me. It was all a bit surreal actually.

Sam Brown, Wow an amazing singer. Great gig in the sky performance, left me in love with her. Who ever believes Sam is not a talented woman, do not know their A** from their head.

I just recently became acquainted with Sam Brown and have ordered the through Amazon as many of her albums as possible. Her voice and background music are wonderful and superlative. Those of you who dismiss her are missing one of life's joys.

Godbluffer, you have exceptional taste! I'm an American and I feel like Sam Brown is a hidden treasure that I get to reveal to my friends year after year. I think her voice is fantastic--textured and expressive, delicate and athletic all at once--she can do so much with it. And she writes some damn good songs too! I think my favorite album is probably Reboot and my fave song is "Your Love is All." Make sure to buy all the Homespun albums too--three more chances to luxuriate in her voice.

Like all great singers, she has her own individual voice, personally, I love her voice, hope she regain her voice, I will miss her singing.

  25. d.... ....

next to Tori Amos 'little Earthquakes' ..this is still my all time favourite album! Touching, haunting and simply beautiful.

  26. J.... E....

Fantastic singer! Sam Brown rocked The Royal Albert Hall singing "Horse To The Water" at the tribute concert for Geroge Harrison - a performance you can see on YouTube. She has also sung with The Jools Holland Big Band, with Pink Floyd, and with the aforementioned, George Harrison. She certainly stands out from the generic crowd of female pop singers!

I only recently discovered this album, having only heard Stop & Box before. While she perhaps never achieved the widespread fame her talent deserves, I'd still say she's had a thoroughly respectable career. I've lost track of how many times I've seen/heard her in backing vocals, or working with another musician. A great working musician.
