Saint Etienne - Hit The Brakes Lyrics
She's waking up
The mirror says
That her hairs
Getting far too long
To start the day
Better make sure
It's good and strong
To get her through
Got things to do
And now that the clock says eight
Can't be late
So hit the brakes
They'd had enough
Couldn't watch
While you killed yourself
And you pretend
You gave them up
For a lifetime of cars and wealth
Misunderstood
Don't feel so good
Another the clock says eight
Can't be late
So hit the brakes
I said hit the brakes

Cool and deadly.....
Kids need to know this is a Neil Young song.
1990 👀👀still ♥️ it
When you were young and on your own
How did it feel to be alone
I was always thinking of games that I was playing
Trying to make the best of my time
But only love can break your heart
Try to be sure right from the start
Yes, only love can break your heart
But if your world should fall apart
I have a friend I've never seen
He hides his head inside a dream
Someone should call him and see if he can come out
Try to lose the down that he's found
But only love can break your heart
Try to be sure right from the start
Yes, only love can break your heart
But if your world should fall apart
I was always thinking... I was always thinking...
I was always thinking... I was always thinking...
I was always thinking... I was always thinking...
I was always thinking...
I was always thinking of games that I was playing
I was always thinking of games that I was playing
I was always thinking... I was always thinking...
I was always thinking... I was always thinking... I... I... I... I...
I was always thinking of games that I was playing
I was always thinking of games that I was playing
I was always thinking of games that I was playing
I was always thinking of games that I was playing
Makes me cry this song and I don't know why.
Great Times
Thank You : )
Love this tune to the South of France and back
Sympa morceau intéressant
Nouvel chanteuse

This era was fckg lava!.....🔥😘
Many thanks Sarah Cracknell, Bob Stanley and Pete Wiggs.
And Moira Lambert, who sang on this track
Blessfull Times... when the world was a safer place..
is it me or is that a Sheffield United mug features in this video played it back and it's sheffield then the next bit you last bit of sheffield and United so yep it's a blade just adds that extra bit of class to an otherwise great video and fantastic song and a beautiful Sarah cracknell

ettiene forever xxx
Moira from Faith Over Reason!
this is so nice
This is literally the solution to all world's problems.
How can this not have like 100 millions of views?
because it is crap
because bad taste rules this world
Agreed - Its a classic track
Never like St Etienne. However Ithink it was in large part 'they were too commercial' snobism. maybe ^^. But always loved this tune - just a beautiful house track :)
Magnif.
love this tune
It's fucking shit bet Neil Young is furious with this version my pleasure was unlocking it
Brandon Duquemin I thin they did a pretty good job, turning a folk rock song into a house pop song is not easy
My favourite St Etienne track. And there are many.
ahamezu Lo mismo me pasó a mí! También bajé un álbum de Madonna y me salió esta canción, así descubri esta banda.
Saint Etienne es una gran banda
Fake Cyberraga
OMG! I'm glad I'm not the only one who remembers that
крутая песня.а девушка очень милая)
@ Vincent Vega
Bollocks, they look like a pair of skint wannabe hipster students at the SU bar indie night.
Thankfully Saint Etienne got so much better than this stinker.
Lots of bands had the baggy clothes & and floppy fringe this going on back then. That was the fashion.
As for calling it a stinker, well what I imagine you're really saying is that you don't appreciate this genre. A lot of indie dance (and also shoegaze) from this era had hazy, wispy vocals, steady breakbeats, heavy reverbs and psychedelic effects. In the late 80s and early 90s ecstasy was a very pure and powerful drug and lsd was also readily available. Much of the music at the time reflected the altered state brought on by such drugs and this song is no exception.
@PrimeM92 I know it was the fashion, I lived through this particular low point in popular style.
Can't believe I called this a song a stinker. Dull and dated for sure but also pleasant enough if over long.
I think it's the exactly the production style you mention that alienates me from this music. It's neither psychedelic nor funky enough to engage me. Plus I was never a LSD or ecstasy man (cocaine on the other hand...) so I don't make the connection.
@Jehovah Kill Ok fair point. Well we all have different tastes. I like this track as I have some good memories from that time (I didn't try any drugs until a few years later though). I was a fan of a lot of stuff by St. Etienne though, Join Our Club, Like a Motorway, Nothing Can Stop Us and even the cheesy but uplifting He's on the Phone. Great band all round.
only saint etienne can wear this horrible "españa european union" shirt and still be cool XD
Dancin´Neil young
Moira Lambert
absolutely
only love will set you free ...
Noooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
And did it break, my heart...
Possibly the best cover ever....
What an incredibly cute girls she is.
@mikey Gay.
Belting tune. I can only think fannyhawkes can hear something completely different to me. Ace.
Download adblock mate. Costs nothing except maybe 5 minutes of your life. Never see an advert again, result!
if you have the original album its worth reading the inner cover to see the inspiration for the songs, really very warming :)
I love this song so much... It was quite hard discover who sang it, haha.
what a beautiful girl and beauty voice!!!
She isn't singing this.
i love Saint Etienne.. am not so keen on the 19 seconds of MacDonalds advert. grr.
I swear I thought it was Madonna's voice until today.
good song !
You are indeed a fanny.
sad??!? this is totally life affirming!
My favourite sad tune
ha. Not quite. But I like a neil young cover. i.e. Nicolette Larson, Lotta Love
Are you Sarah Cracknell?
Um, what's wrong with singing like a 10 year old? I love Neil, from Tonight's the Night to Harvest, from Trans to On the Beach. Tho you can take Weld, thank you very much. Point is, the original of this song is a killer. But I did this cover for its very vapid French sixties chanson style.
Tho admittedly, that house piano has dated QUITE A BIT.
oxygen for me
alot of this video is fimled around the tufnell park and gospal oak area of north london, he bit against the wall with 'go home bible mike' is on burghley road and its the wall of my old school acland burghley.
the bit with thw lido sign in the background is hampstead heath lido,

My fave pop band - need a happy tune atm. :o

Should have more views.Quality group and track..
Nice video, good photography, I like the style: very 80s!!
One of the best 90's dance records! :)
This has to be one of my favourite song of the 1990s :-)
