Saga - The Interview Lyrics

Good afternoon! May I introduce myself?
With a story to be told you may need help
I know you were a headline for some time
But now you're part of a motionless mime
Lights have dimmed and times have changed
And the world is watching a different stage
Don't you think it's time we had a younger face?
You can slip away with no disgrace
So tell me...
How long should we wait around
Don't you understand, when you're down we're down?
The memory of a lasting fame
Is better fed on reruns, no shame
So tell me...
There's one thing I must know
Tell me why you can't let go
There's one thing we must know
Tell me, why won't you let go?
How long do you think you'll last
Living with a continuous past
As you stare at us we say,
"You're looking less like me each day!"
And there's one thing I must know
Tell me why you can't let go
There's one thing we must know
Tell me, why won't you let go?
Tell me
Why can't you let go?

Years ago a buddy and I were walkin' down the sidewalk heading into RPM nightclub in Toronto and a taxi pulls up to the curb next to us. Doors open and out steps three members of Saga. We stopped in our tracks and I stepped up to Ian, put my hand out and said, "Great show last night!" He looks a little baffled and replies, "Last night?" I says, "Yeah...at Lulu's Roadhouse in Kitchener. I was there." He smiles and says, "Oh...and you're here again tonight!" Yep, yep. Back-to-back Saga concerts in two nights. For the record the RPM show was better - smaller nightclub had better sound and Michael's voice sounded stronger (he'd been suffering with a cold).

  20. A.... R....

great song although it kinda ruins new song by howard jones for me as they sound so similar although end of the day both songs really sound like solsbury hill so idk fuck it

    A.... R....

Sounds more like something you would hear from The Call than Howard Jones to me.

  21. J.... T....

Saga brings back my fondest memories of LSD and this piper cub crop duster I owned back in the 80's

  22. M.... T....

The Canadian "six pack,"  Rush, Frank Marino & Mahogany Rush, Triumph, Saga, April Wine, Max Webster.

    M.... T....

I will agree on the strength of his debut album alone. I bought it out of curiosity when it was released. About wore the damn thing out!

    M.... T....

Yet another underestimated artist form Canada - Aldo is SO talented.
Anyways I think Mark Tarr's six-pack is getting ruined. I think we're in for a truck load off beer AND a HELL of a PARTY ;-D  Merry X-mas to all

    M.... T....

There's definitely no problem in turning it into a 12-pack!

    M.... T....

    Cheers :-D

    M.... T....

Great "six pack" Mark. I might throw FM in there as well, for a terrific "lucky seven" pack. Take care brother!

  23. D.... S....

Also, they absolutely crushed "That's As Far..." and "I'm OK." Their energy and precision was fantastic!

  24. D.... S....

The Geddy Lee gig was actually the first time in along time that the original line up of SAGA had played together (Sam the Record Man "Trust" show). Geddy popped into the back for a few minutes before taking off somewhere. At one point Mike Sadler asked if anyone had a request and I yelled out "Tom Sawyer!" Everyone laughed, but Geddy had already left, so I never got to know/see his reaction. Mike replied, "Sorry. Wrong four-letter named band!"

Sadler = great sense of humor, world class singer

  25. s.... ....

Very cool! Great to know that Saga is still carrying on, and sounding great! I hope I get the chance to see them live some day! And how incredible to see Geddy Lee in the audience? Thanks!

  26. D.... S....

Well you are in luck. Not only do I LOVE Saga (fan since the first album) but I have met the original group several times. Not only are they wonderful people, but at the last gig of theirs I saw Geddy Lee from RUSH was in the audience having a good time. Even today in 2013 Mike Sadler sings like an angel! SAGA crowds are great too. We all know the words and Sadler really gets us to sing along.

    D.... S....

I got to meet them all in Canada. and Alex from the other four lettered Canadian band .. in NY . !

  27. s.... ....

WOW, I can't believe how many people love this song! I have yet to meet anyone in person that knows Saga, other than On the Loose, and maybe Wind Him Up! I LOVE this entire album! I wore it out on cassette, back when it came out in 1982, when I was 16! back in the mid-90s, I couldn't find a copy on CD anywhere, and I finally wound up spending about $24 on an import! Thanks for uploading this! Now I gotta go dig it out!

    s.... ....

    This album kills

  28. M.... ....

Absolutely F*'n Great Song! I always think of this song as some super-old super-group announces their "Reunion" tour

  29. I.... D....

My senior prom theme was Sagas "On the Loose". Played this cassette non stop til the player ate it. Then got the CD. Great memories every time I listen to worlds apart

  30. .... ....

    what an album...

  31. S.... w....

@DMRjoebaptiste You're not, you're not, you're not alone! My niece is 16 and she too loves Saga. Her dad, my big brother, introduced her to them ~ we lived in Canada when they were starting out and me and my bros loved them then and love them still :D

  32. T.... ....

    Oh yes!!!! I love Saga.

  33. .... ....

@DMRjoebaptiste "the public" has been expertly DUMBED-DOWN not to appreciate good music and true talent, over generations...

  34. M.... W....

I've rediscovered Saga after not listening to them for years, but they still keep coming on strong. If anyone's got early live videos of them(late 70s-early 80s), please post them!

  35. j.... b....

best band ever, it seems i am the only 16 year old who likes this in England, i dont understand how bands like this could possibly be unheard of by the general public when there this amazing

  36. P.... S....

the inspiration for this has to be from something beyond normal comprehension

  37. T.... W....

havent heard this in forever. 2 things are clear, one they were way ahead of their time with the clean sound, and the drummer was in love with the roto-toms..call it the neol peart affect. and thats not a slight by any stretch.

  38. j.... ....

I like this song here by Saga, like all their songs, especially this album, which I have at my home, got it on CD.

  39. M.... ....

Gotta get this Cd. Forgot what an amazing, crazy great band this was. I had the Lp and the cassett but life gets away sometimes and lost them. Forgot about them. How I miss this great sound WOW This one was one of my very favorites!!! Of All Time!!! Love the synthesizer and guitar sound!

  40. m.... ....

"Detours" one of my all time faverite Live Recordings

  41. B.... R....

These guys are so brilliant...Agora Ballroom Hartford CT 1985

  42. t.... ....

    @DYERIAN

    EXCELLENT COMMENT!
saga"s worlds apart sounds better today than it ever did. especially if you have a good digital processing system. i have yamaha 7.2 digital processer with klipsch surround speakers and the 80"s music is amazing with todays hi tech equipment. in the 80"s a lot of bands were using hi-density processers to process studio sound and saga being one among many sounds great.
the gutiar riffs in conversations is mind blowing.
    PEACE!

  43. I.... D....

What I should have said, is that I defy anybody to say this does;nt sound better today
    LOL

  44. I.... D....

Forgive my maths, but this album is nearly 30 yrs old. I defy anybody to say this sounds better today . Listen through head phones . Fan bloody tastic!!!!

  45. k.... ....

Saga didn't have to give YES a run for their money. They are just as good..... just a different style. I think both bands are awesome in their own styles...originality.

  46. B.... ....

    The drums are just fantastic

  47. P.... ....

    I agree

  48. D.... ....

    Thanks, friend!

  49. a.... ....

    Thank you.
