Sade - Slave Song Lyrics

I see them gathered, see them on the shore
I turned to look once more
And he who knows me not
Takes me to the belly of darkness

The tears run swift and hard
And when they fall
Even, even the comfort of a stone
Would be a gain
There was a time when I thought
I would have to give up
But I'm thankful that I'm
Strong as I am and I'll
Try to do the best I can

[1] - Tears will run swift
And tears will come that fall like rain
I pray that it's swift though
Tears will fall as cold as pain

I pray to the almighty
Let me not to him do
As he has unto me
Teach my beloved children
Who have been enslaved
To reach for the light continually

So many times I prayed
So many times I've prayed for you
Prayed for you

The tears run swift and hard and cold as pain
Even, even the comfort of a stone would be a gain
Had I not had the strength and wisdom of a warrior
I would have to give up
But I'm thankful that I'm
Strong as I am and I'll
Try to do the best I can

[Repeat 1]

I pray to the almighty
Let us not do as he has unto us
Teach my beloved children I've been a slave
But reach for the light continually

Wisdom is the flame
Wisdom is the brave warrior
Who will carry us into the sun
I pray that it's swift though
Tears will come that fall like rain

So many times, so many times

Omg. I heard this for the first time on satellite radio the other day. This song is beautiful. The rhythm just absolutely gets me.

I happened to be sitting and drawing and earbuds and this song came on. I just got lost in it. Love this song,♥️. The earbuds I have are really good. And the satellite app I have when I heard this has an equalizer. When this came on... OMG!♥️

    Lauren

V J the song is about the transatlantic slave trade of Africans to the America’s s. So yes, has a bit to do with that topic.

  50. kaylashalaylaaaaa

Sade, is so much to me, like the female side of sting. Their affinity for less popular modes/scales and overall multi-cultural influences are very similar

  81. Nick S

Yes it is. If you think these lyrics are powerful listen to "Bring Me Home" from off of her Solider of Love Album. It speaks of Sade being fed up with the harshness of life and committing suicide to be brought to the other side or brought home to "God". I listen to the song a lot and her words are powerful in this song. Let me know what you think. The hums and high pitches that you will hear in the background is Sade as well just incase you wonder. I saw video of her recording this track.

  82. Nick S

If you think this makes you feel high have a couple of glasses of wine or have a couple of beers and try listening to her song "Flow" off of the Lover's Rock album. That song will have you floating. I know it has me feeling that way :)

  83. Nick S

It’s not Mathew Matthewman its Stuart Matthewman and any true Sade fan knows that they still write songs together. They have been a band along with Andrew Hale have for decades now. Stuart Matthewman co-wrote the following songs off of her latest album Soldier of Love; "The Moon And The Sky", "Morning Bird" and "In Another Time" and one of my favorites "Bring Me Home" which is the track that tells a story of Sade committing suicide. Always remember that without her band there is NO SADE!

  84. D Iglesias Bkk

AMAZING SONG !!! YOU RE THE BEST FOR CHILLOUT SADE !!

  85. Jordan Zacarias

    Absolutely love it.

Best song on Lovers. The tour made this that much more powerful with the view of the ocean. Can you imagine that was all those people saw during the middle passage. I love her music. I love that she is able to take something that is so unspeakable and bring it to presentable terms through well chosen lyrics and sound.

  89. MrImtooshy

At qzwxs58. You are out of your short sighted not of this world F..k..g non existent mind. I feel compelled to ask What your statement is based upon, and Where did your information? Your dangerous to yourself and others. This will hinder your ability to find common ground in life.
