Rush - Take A Friend Lyrics
Well, I'm lookin' at you
And I'm wond'rin' what you're gonna do
Looks like you got no friends
No one to stick with you till the end
Take yourself a friend
Keep 'em till the end
Whether woman or man
It makes you feel so good...
So good
Yes, you think you're all right
But now you're lonely ev'ry night
Well, you need a friend
Someone on whom you can always depend
[Chorus]
Yes, you need some advice
Well, let me put it to you nice
I said you need a friend
Someone who'll stick with you to the end
[Chorus]

Rip Neil luv always
The complete antithesis
Probably my two favorite albums of Rush, no..... not probably......this,self titled album Rush and then ,Signals, however after Signals, it just died......tried and tried after, because were my favorite, but just couldn’t get in to anything after Signals?!?!!?
Quite a contrast ,from one to another
But certainly enjoyed everything in between!!!!!!!.........you think????🤣😂🤣😂😅
What a great band 😁
Fantástico!!!!
Rush when they were just rookies, damn I feel young again. Keep em till the end! Worked in a greenhouse planting flowers listening to this on my Walkman, and now I'm "Here Again"
This song's intro should be able to tell you that even though Neil is easily the better drummer for Rush, John Rutsey was certainly not a pushover.
Going on a camping trip in a few weeks. My friend told me I need to "be an AVID rush fan by then"
Imma binge all their albums
Seems like my type of friend
"You need cooling
Baby I'm not fooling
I'm gonna send ya
Back to schooling"
Classic! I’m trying to find my original tapes now! 👍🤔❤️
These guy's are the absolute best ever.
..its RUSH baby......
Best Rush Album and one of the best of Rock!
AWESOME GUITAR SOLO AGAIN.🧡
AWESOME TUNE FROM A GREAT FRIEND BAND. EVEN NOW 2019.
Another quirky little gem from their mucho underrated debut album, every song rocks!
Sounds like Greta Van Fleet
The Canadian version of Aerosmith - Somebody (lyrically speaking)
Straight up rock! These were just kids right out of high-school when this came out. A RUSH is exactly what it was at the time...
Ok I'm a NUTBAR,, but this song right here takes me back to 1987 toilet papering the neighbors houses...with my "friend"
Their 70s and early 80s are the best IMO.
Saginaw Michigan 1978 fly by night the best ever
Saginaw Civic Center , Farewell to Kings Tour...what a great cherry pop of Concerts..yeah..coolest ever
Rush rocks n rolls
0:00 best intro ever
Rush should sue a band named Greta Van Fleet - their new hit called "When the Curtain Falls" is a TOTAL RIPOFF of this song, just compare the choruses.
Acho que RUSH e a mais forte, expressiva, moderna e eterna manifestação musical da história da humanidade. Saudacoes afetivas a Lee, Lifeson e Pearl. Que suas vibrações sonoras ecoem sempre no universo. Demóstenes Portela Duarte.
Wow... would have made a great Lynyrd Skynyrd song too.
They fucking jammed blizzard of 78 in cleveland at the public hall a fucking blizzard"" and 10000 seat concert sold the fuck out packed to the gills fuck a blizzard we were there rush loved it said it reminded them of canada why cleveland has best fans and rock capital the fans not some term shit""
Rock'n'Roll 4ever
They should start every concert with this tune. 😜
This totally ROCKS out. 🎸 RUSH earlier music was best. This fly by night caress of steel. 2112
Take a friend has always been one of my favorites!
one of my favorite RUSH songs to play
any Canadian day at the lake has this tune BLASTING
By a lake? Why not Lakeside Park? 😂
Gets me grooving in Tha morning hell ya
inspiring
A primeira musica do Rush que ouvi. Muito massa. Adorava essa musica.
One of the relatively few really big rock bands that didnt sell their souls to satan, or the Illuminati , at least not by what I know about them .
steve keays didnt they see the owl on their album cover? aint because their from canada i love them im from cleveland seen them many times but"" like most if not just about all back then did too sell out also .
Are you serious? o_0
steve keays Hail fucking Satan man wat u talking about?
Compare this to Kiss and Aerosmith of that time....this kicks ass
They opened for Kiss on their early tours!
Aerosmith of that time Kickass too...Best Aerosmith era for me.
I know that Geddy Lee is saying "Take yourself a friend" but to me it sounds like he's saying "Take a sailboat friend" to me.
Thats funny
I can never un- hear that now lol!
I say a sailboat IS a GOOD place for a friend!!
I just recognized your profile photo... it's Randy. Funny show.
As much of a slap in the face it is to their 80's music, a part of me wishes they had of stayed like this cause they rocked this type of music hard!!
I think after Geddy saw Genesis and Yes it was game over for their pure hard rock phase.
They lost their touch after 2112. After that they stopped rockin. Love the early, heavy RUSH. 🤘 Budgie is a great band that never stopped rockin, if you need a replacement.
Tom29 i thought farewell to kings was goood ! After that i fell off.
@Caleb Bartlett Plus the hired Peart and He is into all that spacey sh*t
I agree. I love this sound on this album..
Listen to those guitar riffs!!!
I did. Sounds like a mash up of Paranoid.
Rhythm guitar: Alex Lifeson
Lead guitar: Alex Lifeson
...all at the same time ;)
my brother intro. me to 2112,which i loved, long way from the Beatles. Then my sis bought farwell to kings. enough said!
1974? That is the year I was born. Great song. Libertarian rock anthem!
I don't hear anything Libertarian about it. I would say "Anthem" from the following album would fit that description better. Oh and I was four when this came out but didn't get into RUSH until the eighties.
'Fly By Night' strikes me as the apex of Rush the Libertarians. However, they matured, gained wisdom, with the later releases.
Best Rush era for me.
One of my favourite songs ever!!!!!!!!
It feels me feel sooo good!
People who cannot appreciate Rush cannot appreciate the finer things in life.
+Jinisha B false
@Elcocotero Agreed: I appreciate Rush a lot, but I can very well imagine someone who doesn't and still appreciates the finer things in life.
"Whether woman or man"
Gee, thanks Geddy, I didn't that there were TWO genders willing to be my friend. Great song, though. Musically, anyway.
Woah dude.. You come from the future?? What's it like in 2014? d: ...
gnrfan74 I'm from 2017 bro
2014 was alright but 2019 is meh.
Song III for the ultimate Rush Marathon. I take a HEADLONG FLIGHT thru every studio song Rush has ever done cuz quite simply put, this is GEDDaY (Geddy Lee's birthday, + the anniversary of the meeting of Alex and Geddy, and the man who was going to fill in for the drummer's slot. Let us focus on the very first drummer, John Rutsey, Just one album, but I can't help but think "what if....."
...This was without peart. When there old drummer wrote the lyrics. This is why its classified as clasic rock. Peart was way better, lyric wise and drumming wise. Peart brought rush to the genre of progressive rock. And thats when rush was best.(dont get me wrong, this was a great album.)
ThePokElite Geddy and Alex already had some prog influences when this came out (Pink Floyd, Genesis, Yes), and none of John's lyrics made it into the final cut.
and rush talks like they are surprised they have a fan base...you make simple songs sound fantastic and your attitude is what does it and keeps it going. you have earned a spot in my lifetime of listening.
it was john rutsey on this album
jackpot who left to pursue other interests lol
Drugs and alcohol....
im surprised this song has 2 dislikes i mean how could someone not like this
Exactly, it's a classic type genre for this album....don't get me wrong they reached more heights when they took a more progressive form, but this album kicks ass...my friend always tells me that "this album only has one good song in his opinion " (Working Man), but he's really missing out on the other relatable hard driven songs on here
So 1974
40 years later it still kicks ass.
Anthem is from Fly By Night, not from this album.
Macdom correct
@Ryu12543 I'm not as big a fan of the lyrics before Peart was on board but musically this is top notch.
bowl is shaped and frame is tapered but y top of the line class is not and never will achieve YES band statuus in 2012 is considered an emulator
/watch?v=HoDCTpY7Sr4
a chart thru the future chemtrails
wizards from 2013
@phantomlord6661
Well, on this album or not, Neil is still the best. Not to take anything away from John Rutsey, of course.
Neil Peart is the best there is. And that's all there is to it!!
It's clear that, even at this point, they were polishing their skills. And you can tell that this isn't Peart playing. I think Moving Pictures will remain my fav Rush record.
Forever Alone... with my friend :)
Jann Wenner made an account and disliked this song.
I WAS HOOKED THE SECOND I HEARD THIS 40YEARS AGO LOL
Definitely very raw, sophomoric, undeveloped Rush. You can tell how young and influenced they were at this time, like most young bands are. But when they grew. THEY GREW!!! YEAH!!!!
Yes, you need some advice
Well, let me put it to you nice
I said you need a friend
Someone who'll stick with you to the end
rock n roll is the best music there is, plain and simple i mean i wake up in the morning to 93.1 doug-fm or 94.7 WCSX
Gotta Love this good spirited Rock!!! Played by serious musicians. I'm going to teach this to my kids and their rock-band. Thanks for posting...
@TheObjo Wow, that's impressive since 2009 !!
@TheObjo too bad it won't be like this for long i think :/
Well, you think you're alright...let me put it to you nice!
The masterpiece debut speaks for itself.
Makes you feel so goooood! My kind of music and thanks for sharing!
@TheObjo Still 0 dislikes (HELL YEAH!!!)
@gotbass33727 sounds a lot like The Darkness, doesn't it?? Kinda makes me think of Black Shuck.
@Ryu12543 Very underrated tune man!! Very. One of the few with so much Geddy harmony. He sang over himself (2 tracks) on each verse also. Very early-Rush style.
@Kynatics My pleasure, it is a pretty underrated song by them.
have they ever played this live?
@windridr66 Seconded! My favorite track from their first LP along with "What You're Doing". Alex's solo is pure genius and an awesome tone to boot. Oh yes, and Geddy's meticulously proper grammar in this hard rock context is a hoot ("someone on whom you can always depend...")
I love this song!!!
This song just plain kicks ass!
@Ryu12543 ya i think he left rush i 74, but he died in like '08
@JackXIII
The Darkness.
The begining and end of this song remind me of the begining of "Midnight Maniac" from Krokus. Maybe thats where Krokus came up with the intro to that song. Anyone else notice a similarity?
@rumzsk8 Yes that was kind of a reference to that lol.
Rutsey did a good job with this album. The "sloppyness" sits in very well, it adds the necessary groove.
it would have been awesome to hear this and Before and After live.
rush fuckin rules
Good ol fashioned rock like this is what we need to hear more of these days. Only band that's come close to this kind of stuff in the modern times is Wolfmother, but they take more influences from Zepplin.
great song. very Zepp-like.
testodude The guitar riff kind of reminds me of Whole Lotta Love.
Nah, don't think so. All respectable classic rock fans know who Rush is, and all respectable classic rock fans know at least a couple of Rush's songs. Even my friends that like pop and rap know who Rush is.
Fantastica !!!!!!!!!
I dont know how you could be any bigger than rush without being the Beatles or somthing, and they were English.....
Okay, thanks for explaining.
in 2008 he did it was a different reason back then
The whole song does lol, I love the rolls in the solos too.
nooooo rrrrlllly that not the question i asked but any thanks croby 14
Sad but true.
Pretty sure he died.
what happend to rutsy did they kik him out or did he quit
rutsey had diabetis and was not healthy enough to make the tour
even here I believe Lifeson was really getting his own sound and style going.....that sound went on to be I feel some of the best guitar sounds and playing ever.....
