Rush - Summertime Blues Lyrics

Well, I'm gonna raise a fuss
I'm gonna raise a holler
About a working all summer
Just to try to earn a dollar
Well, time I called my baby
Try to get a date
My boss says, no dice son
You gotta work late
Sometimes I wonder
What I'm a gonna do
But there ain't no cure
For the summertime blues

Oh, well my Mom and Poppa told me, son
You gotta make some money
If you want to use the car
To go ridin' next Sunday
Well I didn't go to work
Told the boss I was sick
Well you can't use the car
Cause you didn't work a lick
Sometimes I wonder
What I'm a gonna do
But there ain't no cure
For the summertime blues

I'm gonna take two weeks
Gonna have a fine vacation
I'm gonna take my problem
To the United Nations
Well I called my congressman
And he said, whoa
I'd like to help you son
But you're too young to vote
Sometimes I wonder
What I'm a gonna do
But there ain't no cure
For the summertime blues

  3. S.... S....

    Neil Pert = magical drummer

Everything these guys touch turns to gold. By far the best cover of this song. Rush forever

  6. P.... P....

Geddy sounds like Geddy on Debut album and Fly By Night

  7. M.... R....

This is great, but I like Blue Cheer's version the best.

  8. A.... L....

Prime example of picking up a classic song and fucking it up.

    A.... L....

    Your an idiot

  9. G.... U....

Rush absolutely without doubt kill on this! Fucking class

  10. A.... T....

    Bunch of wankers!!!

  11. c.... w....

Rush played this live a few times in maybe 2007 or so. I got to see it twice that tour. Good times!

  12. E.... ....

    Undertaker: You....me....Summerslam!

  13. J.... B....

No cure for the summertime blues, eh? These guys never heard of pot?

    J.... B....

A bit late for an answer, but listen to Train to Bangkok of the 2112 album, I'm pretty sure they knew a lot about pot lol

    J.... B....

    CaptnKbec thats the joke.

  14. N.... K....

This is good, but the Who's version from Live At Leeds is much better. Geddy's a great bass player, but John Entwistle was in another category entirely.

    N.... K....

    And Keith as well.

  15. P.... B....

Seen them good night it was along with other concerts I've spanning 28 years

  16. R.... K....

It was nice to see the WWE give Rush a little love using this.

  17. D.... D....

RUSH paying tribute to the Bands that inspired them

    D.... D....

If u mean The Who, Summertime was written by Eddie cochran

  18. B.... W....

    this was a great album.

  19. T.... L....

Why doesn't Neil do the spoken response lyrics? His gruff Irish baritone would fit perfectly here.

    T.... L....

    Tim Lazar EXACTLY!

  20. D.... D....

RUSH paying tribute to the bands that influenced them

  21. 1.... y....

    Any rush fans here?

    1.... y....

You got em. Rush all day every day

  22. R.... ....

Ah, yes. SummerSlam 2004, with the legendary match of Canadian fans Vs. The top faces.

    Oh, and Orton/Benoit.

  23. W.... M....

Yeah, this is now my favorite cover of this song.

  24. J.... P....

Awesome cover! I like the little nods to The Who

  25. j.... L....

    WWE Summerslam 2004

  26. T.... M....

I'm a bigtime WHO fan, and always loved Blue Cheer, but this is one of the best covers of EC's classic

  27. E.... H....

    Best version IMHO...Ed<><

  28. P.... P....

Randy Orton vs Kris Bin Wah

    P.... P....

    Phantom Pharrel

  29. D.... R....

    SUMMER SLAM

    D.... R....

Yes indeed, the night Randy Orton became the Youngest WORLD Heavyweight Champion in WWE History @ the age of 24 years old def. the late Chris Benoit and also, Kurt Angle and the late Eddie Guerrero went head to head in a WRESTLEMANIA XX Rematch

    D.... R....

@T-Bone Hubbard yep BTW go falcons

  30. J.... U....

We live in a town south of Atlanta, Griffin, Georgia. Our dad own a restaurant and we met this band while they were passing through! Damn, 50+ I can still remember that day! Would give anything to still have our SIGNED copy of their 45! Played it over and over on the junk box! Great memories!

  31. G.... R....

Wow! There's drums where the congressman says !!!!!!!!! I love it love it love it!!!!!

    G.... R....

+George R. Sutton >> The congressman was out, so The Professor filled in. :-)

  32. t.... ....

Holy shit, Rush shreds this song so hard! \m/

    t.... ....

Can you honestly put Moon up against Peart. I love em both, but c'mon.

  33. A.... T....

    wwe summerslam 2004

  34. G.... F....

I like Geddy's vocals here, but it's difficult to adore this version or the Blue Cheer version when the "response" lyrics are missing. Imagine this being the first version of the song you've ever heard, and being confused by this line: "I called my congressman and he said, quote: *silence*"

I grew up on Alan Jackson's cover, which I very much like; Eddie Cochran's original is pretty awesome, too.

    G.... F....

+Grant Fikes Yeah, I don't get that either. Those are important parts of the lyrics. You can't really leave them out.

    G.... F....

+Grant Fikes LoL, yeah Eddie's is. Incredible. I've never seen any to top it. Not the Who, Blue Cheer, Joan Jett, Alan Jackson, Springsteen ... none of them.

    G.... F....

There's a response, unless you missed that drum fill.

    G.... F....

Congressmen skip town hall meetings nowadays so Rush were a bit ahead of their time.

  35. M.... ....

    great song

  36. D.... B....

Lol, Neil quoting Blue Cheer's "Just a Little Bit" drum intro at the end.

  37. M.... ....

they decided to do both BLUE CHEER and THE WHO

    M.... ....

+MichaelHansenFUN >> With a little fuzzy intro from Hendrix's "Foxy Lady", of course. :-)

    M.... ....

MichaelHansenFUN They covered Blue Cheer covering Eddie Cochran.

  38. M.... ....

there cover of blue cheers version

  39. J.... W....

damm awesome a magic cover of the eddie cochran classic always loved this song, rush do it so well. and feedback is a fucking awesome album of cover songs. #rusharerocklegends

  40. S.... G....

    sooo cool.

  41. C.... ....

    This is my summer song!

  42. I.... S....

    Trush...

  43. J.... T....

    That Jimi Hendrixish intro! :>

    J.... T....

The intro is a part that Blue Cheer wrote for their rendition of this song

  44. D.... D....

Blue Cheer...the original hard rock band.

    D.... D....

Nope. The Who. You probably haven't even heard their rendition, so stfu.

  45. c.... ....

Summerslam 2004. But I came here for Rush also...

  46. T.... J....

Don't forget, Triple H VS Eugene and Kane and Matt Hardy battled to marry Lita!!

  47. D.... D....

RUSH paying tribute to the bands that influenced them

  48. T.... H....

This was the theme to WWE Summerslam 2004 and that was when Randy Orton def. Chris Benoit to become the youngest WORLD Heavyweight Champion in WWE History

Booker T. and John Cena battled for the U.S. Heavyweight Title, Edge, Batista and Chris Jericho battled for the I-C Belt, Undertaker battled JBL for the WWE Heavyweight Championship and the late Eddie Guerrero battled Kurt Angle in a Wrestlemania XX Rematch

and plus, the infamous Diva Dodgeball

  49. M.... ....

But Blue Cheer and The Who covered the original by Eddie Cochran.

  50. B.... M....

It's really part blue cheer "intro and ending" and the rest is comparable to The Who.

    B.... M....

Yeah Neil is a huge who fan so it makes sense I would've preferred if they just did the Blue Cheer version though

  51. S.... ....

gedddy's voice is perfect for this song

  52. M.... ....

Great cover of the Eddie Cochran classic, even though it is a cover of The Who's version.
