Rush - Red Barchetta Lyrics
My uncle has a country place
That no one knows about
He says it used to be a farm
Before the Motor Law
And on Sundays I elude the eyes
To far outside the Wire
Where my white-haired uncle waits
Jump to the ground
As the Turbo slows to cross the borderline
Run like the wind
As excitement shivers up and down my spine
Down in his barn
My uncle preserved for me an old machine
For fifty odd years
I strip away the old debris
That hides a shining car
A brilliant red Barchetta
From a better vanished time
I fire up the willing engine
Responding with a roar
Tires spitting gravel
I commit my weekly crime
Wind
In my hair
Shifting and drifting
Mechanical music
Adrenaline surge...
Well-weathered leather
Hot metal and oil
The scented country air
Sunlight on chrome
The blur of the landscape
Every nerve aware
Suddenly ahead of me
Across the mountainside
A gleaming alloy air car
Shoots towards me, two lanes wide
I spin around with shrieking tires
To run the deadly race
Go screaming through the valley
As another joins the chase
Drive like the wind
Straining the limits of machine and man
Laughing out loud with fear and hope
I've got a desperate plan
At the one-lane bridge
I leave the giants stranded at the riverside
Race back to the farm
To dream with my uncle at the fireside

RIP great master.
There are no words when a legend passes away. Rest in Peace, Neil.
R.I.P. to your favorite drummer's favorite drummer.
RUSH is one of my top favorite bands of all time . Absolutely awesome . The passing of Neal Peart is beyond sad . As a gear head this is one of my favorite songs . Anyone who loves cars can relate to this beautifully told story , imagine, actually seeing oneself driving this car . So awesome as only RUSH can do it . RIP Neal Peart 😞 .
Such everlasting music.
This song has everything.
Thank you Neil.
RIP Neil, this song made me really appreciate your drumming. This was one of my favorite albums, perfect for headphone users.
Classic. R.I.P. Neil Peart.
Thoughts on Neil Peart.
And so it goes.
We choose to be born because as spirits long out there in the greater Universe perhaps we grow bored of it and wish to explore a more substantive path. We've forgotten what pain is.
So we're born.
We grow, we learn, we live, we play we cry, we mourn, we love and move along until our time is done. Life has been, life is and life will ever be this way so long as the Universe exists. We just experience and ride it, for a time, like squealing children at a carnival ride.
So now Neil has done his turn, and returns to that which he once was. Perhaps back to the end of the line waiting again on his next turn, or perhaps to take what he has learned and apply it to something other than here.
You lived well Neil....so go and recall all that you once knew, and forgot. Just remember....while you're out there....if you grow fond of this line of existence, this carnival ride, please try to recall what pain is.....
And so it goes for us all.
John~

Thanks for all your contributions, Neil. You made the rock and roll world a better place.
RIP NEIL . YOU ARE UNCOMPARABLY THE BEST OF THEM ALL.
Rest in peace Neil. You were the greatest drummer to ever hit the skins. Actually you were a grand procussionist
VIRTUOSO... The world was better because of NP... ♥️💔♥️💔
Back home in Dominican Republic, in my adolescence in the 80's, my neighbors the Heredia brothers, built a makeshift drums set made of buckets, water gallons, tin cans, tin lids, so we could emulate Mr. Neil Peart. We played Red Barchetta non stop. Neil Peart was such an influence on many of the rockers of my neighborhood. This music reminds me of when I was rich and didn't even know it.
My utmost respect to Mr. Neil Peart; may you rest in peace.
January 11th, 2020 and listening to my favorite Rush tune, Red Barchetta. Neil Peart died of brain cancer this week, and it just hit me that he was only 67 years old. I just turned 56 a couple weeks ago, and Neil, Geddy, and Alex have been part of my life since high school when I bought Rush's first album in 1981 in the cutout bin at Budget Records and Tapes. I had never heard them at all, but I liked the price at $3, and I thought I would take a chance. Very solid $3 investment since I am mourning the loss of their drummer, and the loss of a good part of my adult life. Phil Rudd was their drummer on that first album, but he was a diabetic, and could not tour due to bad health. Just on the cusp of their ascent they needed a new drummer. They found him working the parts counter at the family business in their own hometown. Neil Peart was a bit of a reader as they say, and when he set up his kit and started to play, they knew this guy is the one. He wrote incredible lyrics and was designated drum God for the planet earth and most of the Milky Way galaxy. Thank you sir for those hours of solitude accompanied by your amazing talents, and yes I do think Geddy and Alex made the absolute best choice they could make when they asked you to join Rush. Millions of fans are all reminiscing this week, about all our best times with Rush's best tunes. I wanted to see you guys in concert, so very much, but it just never worked out. I will regret that I didn't try harder, but then you always think you will have more time to do things that are so dear to your heart. I will be listening to Rush even more this year and appreciate the talent and hard work that you guys put into your music. Thank you for sharing it made an impact on so many people. Me included.
The NFL recognized Neil Peart tonight during a playoff game. Made me happy.
Far outside the wire.... RIP Neil . Alex and Geddy our thoughts to you in this time of sadness. What an amazing journey .❤️
Both a great time and very sad time to be alive. 3/4 of The Ramones are gone, 3/3 of Mötorhead are gone and now 1/3 of RUSH.

Wow this one hurts a loss of a god rip neil.
a standard for my Sunday drives with my Husky Achilles
As a tribute to Neil, I modified his lyrics a bit 😁
"And the men who hold high places
Must be the ones who start
to mold a new reality
Closer to our nation's heart.
The gunsmith and the artist
Reflect it in their art
They forge their creativity
Closer to our nations Heart
Yea, Closer to our nation's heart. .
Philosophers and militia men
Each must know his part
To sow a new mentality
Closer to our nations heart
Yeah! Hail victory!
Commies,Zionists
Illegal aliens, pedos, have no part, of forging our reality, closer to the nation's heart"
Hail victory! hail our nation! goodnight folks!
Sad to hear of Neil's passing. The great big gig in the sky just got louder.
RIP Neil, your a treasure that will never be replaced man
Wishing it was a nice day ( the heavens are crying) so I could go out in my Red Barchetta, crank this song and commit my weekly crime. Rip Neil.
This has and will always be my favorite Rush song. I'll never forget when I was 13 learning to play drums and my drum teacher introduced me to it. The intro and outro still give me goosebumps every single time.

RIP Mr. Peart. Job well done. Music that made you think. I remember when I was young (pre-internet) going to library to find out what a Barchetta was.
Everything about this song is beautiful! RIP Neil Peart! Your legacy will live forever in our hearts and ears! ❤
RIP NEIL PEART
This was the first song I ever heard on the new 'Compact Disc' format back in the 80s. It was in a stereo store, remember those?, in north Austin. Standing in the stereo field between two huge audio towers, I just couldn't stop focusing on Neil. I'm a guitar player, but it was the blissfully blunt pummeling my senses took from Neil's passionate precision percussive tour de force that kept me smiling, ears ringing for an hour after, I didn't care, because I had never heard the drums like that before.
Just incredible.
Thanks NEIL
Long may you run
RIP Nell Peart
My favorite Rush song. RIP Neil Peart
RIP to the greatest ever.
😭💔🇨🇦🖤🙏🤘 #RipNeilPeart thank you!!!
Rip oh great one, your already missed,
There are so many great Rush songs, but this one speaks to me the most. Neil Peart many thanks for your professionalism. Rush inspired so many with the music and superior visual lyrics. May you Rest In Peace now and your memory lives on in the songs. Music will never be the same with your loss.
Godspeed Neil. You were from a better vanished time. 👊
Rip Neil
Gutted. Thanks for the music. Salut! Neil Peart and Rush.
I hope he's dreaming with his uncle at the fireside. Rest well Neil, the world is a far worse place without you in it.
Dear Mr Peart , Thank you so very much.
My favorite Rush song is 1978 - now - - - - - Love you so much Neil, thanks so much...Miss you forever
My favorite rush song. RIP Niel. Much love to all rush fans worldwide.
Rip Neil Peart
We love you Neil Peart RIP - Forever in our hearts X
I know Neil is still drumming - better than ever.
Love this song and album. The first tape I played in my first Walkman. RIP Neil, thanks for the music!
RIP Neil Peart.
RIP Neil Peart , The Profesor , you were and always will be the best , no one even comes close , 😔
THE only Rush song worth listening to....but Geddy sounds like Gwen Stefani and Neil has ZERO feel on the drums. I understand many worship at his altar due to the teenage-sci-fi lyrics, his approach to composition and insane, robotic chops. A sad and difficult life he led though.
RIP Neil Peart
Rush Concert
My 16th birthday was spent at the Rush concert at Municipal Auditorium in Nashville. Dan Langford and I rode to the show. Well during the concert Dan was rapping to these 2 very hot college chicks. I mean the entire concert he was talking to them. He told them we were college students and older than we were. Well at the end of the show we were all walking out together and it looked like we might get kucky and I had a huge mental let down. That particular day was report card day and I said did you guys get your report cards today too? LOL. So the gig was up. They dropped us like hot potatoes and Dan didn't speak to me for a week.
A friend of RUSH is a friend mine thank you all for sharing such good memories of a man who meant so much to so many. He will live in our hearts forever every time we hear those drums in any RUSH song it will put a lump in our throat a tear in our eye and a smile on our face RIP our great friend and loved one loved by some many around the world.
If music gets better than this I can't imagine what it would sound like.
I had a chance to meet Geddy Lee at a book signing and I asked him who had the idea for red Barchetta and he said “Neil was a car guy and he chose the Ferrari Barchetta for the song”
R.I.P Neil Peart
