Rush - Mystic Rhythms Lyrics

So many things I think about
When I look far away
Things I know, things I wonder
Things I'd like to say
The more we think we know about
The greater the unknown
We suspend our disbelief
And we are not alone...

Mystic rhythms
Capture my thoughts
Carry them away
Mysteries of night escape the light of day
Mystic rhythms
Under northern lights
Or the African sun
Primitive things stir
The hearts of everyone

We sometimes catch a window
A glimpse of what's beyond
Was it just imagination
Stringing us along?
More things than are dreamed about
Unseen and unexplained
We suspend our disbelief
And we are entertained

Mystic rhythms
Capture my thoughts
Carry them away
Nature seems to spin
A supernatural way
Mystic rhythms
Under city lights
Or a canopy of stars
We feel the powers and wonder what they are

Mystic rhythms
Capture my thoughts
Carry them away
Mysteries of night escape the light of day
Mystic rhythms
Under northern lights
Or a canopy of stars
We feel the push and pull of restless rhythms from afar

Rush Mystic Rhythms Comments
  1. Evangelos Killer mike

I love every style Rush has uses but my favorite is their 80’s songs since they make me happy & nostalgic 🙂

  2. v1per187

This 80s synth version of Rush is the only version of Rush I like, I must admit.

  3. v1per187

This is a hell of a song.

  4. Suspicious looking Stranger

An instrumental of this song plays in my head while I’m asleep or drifting into sleep

  5. Gary Mendes

How can 3 guys sound like 30! Aliens I say!

  6. Ricardo Castellar

    Rest in peace Neil...

  7. Chalo Riquelme

The first 13 seconds of this masterpiece are study material for any serious drummer...

  8. Zak

You know a rock drummer is good when they can use electronics and NOT be ridiculed for it. R.I.P Neil Peart

  9. Dw sullivan

Love the inner weaving of bass and drums in this song. One of my favorites, even the 1st live version.

  10. Independent Country

See you soon Mr. Peart, there in heaven

  11. Will Sargent

Video directed by Gerald Casale of DEVO.

  12. atranfanatic

Such a beautiful piece from an underrated album. This song is great although I like Marathon slightly better on Power Windows. This band just could not make a bad album. Believe it or not, Roll The Bones is my least favorite song only because of the rap in the middle. lol Otherwise the song is pretty catchy. Anyway I love all eras of Rush and I have seen them live 4 times. We will all miss you Neil.

  13. Bianca Gerent

MY favorite song and video ever!! It has been almost 3 weeks of his loss and | still can't believe Neil is gone...

  14. Carl Ciadella

I remember when this was actually on MTV what a shame MTV is a total joke now.

I became a Rush fan in highschool. The first song I heard was Working Man.

  17. Angel Lorenzo Rubio

Un percusionista para una orquesta sinfonica.

  18. Angel Lorenzo Rubio

La ductilidad de neil para los cambios de ritmos sin perder el compas es notable un percusionista para una orquesta clasica, muy pocos logran eso, es notable.😉👍

  19. Stangman12

This man was not only a damn good drummer he was a percussionist as well.

  20. lincoln3307

  41. russell carter

I don’t think Rush had a bad album. No matter what there where at least some great songs on every album. I love all there stuff. It’s ironic that Neal, one of the most intelligent and talented men would die of brain cancer. He must have just used it to its capacity. God bless Neal Peart!

  42. Juan Layton

    Techno Masterpiece RIP Neil ♡♡♡

  50. Hugo Rezende

Só... Tool made Mystic Rythms from this song and Crazy ass strange vídeos from this and also those tribal vibes

  51. Rikko K

As someone with Asperger's(now simply Autism), I was always convinced that Neil was very likely on the Autistic Spectrum too.

He was an Introverted/Highly Sensitive Person who also had synesthesia like so many of us on the spectrum do. He even mentioned synesthesia in one of his interview videos. Neil loved to read, write and continue to learn.
He mentioned numerous times that playing drums was like solving equations.

RIP my Introverted/Highly Sensitive and very likely Autistic brother.

    Andrew Petik

As a person who is on the Autistic Spectrum (undiagnosed) I wonder if what you state is true. I think that the music that Neil and his bandmates brought to the world is a blessing.

  52. Curtis Plaxco

R.I.P. Mr. Neil "The Professor" Peart. You shall be missed by all us drummers/fans all over the world sir.

  53. blondago56

    See you later, Professor 💔😪💔

  54. Brendan McClelland

I’m still wondering how Geddy simultaneously played the bass and keyboards on this track.

  55. Brian Kimmell

These guys altered my DNA I've spent thousands of hours listening to them. Neil will be missed.

  56. aeugmk2

  59. Rock & Soul '95

    RIP Neil Peart

  60. Ziyudi Rah

It's taken a bit to fully understand that Neil has passed. I have shed tears for a man I didn't know personally, but he seemed to understand what my life was. His musical time signatures were as complex as he was yet so eloquent. I know all of us hoped for a Rush 2nd Farewell tour, though we knew that the "boys" were true to their words and that it wouldn't happen. But now we know there's no hope for the reunion. Thank you, Mr. Peart, for your heartfelt and intelligent words that helped me through so much of my life. You are joyously remembered and sadly missed. My heart goes out to Geddy and Alex as they have lost more than a brother. In Gratitude

  61. Zak

Even the “lesser” rush songs are awesome. As cool as this song is I’d rather see Alex shredding instead of Keys

  62. Scott Morgan

Rest in Peace Professor...everyone will miss your abilities on the drum kit and as the finest lyricist ever...Sadder still to watch it die than never to have known it....for you the blind that used to see....

I got high tonight and watched this video after not having seen it in a while. My mind is blown! Rush keep on getting better in my own mind. I'm so thankful for discovering them back in 1980.
    Neil's death...ripped my heart out.
Hopefully somewhere he's with his wife and daughter again. Love you Neil. RIP. You no longer need to hold your fire. ❤✌🎶🌟✨🌈🌸

Synth Rush is the best Rush. RIP NEIL!

  67. José Reyes

I have no words to describe the pain of this news, thanks Neil for your contribution to this humanity numbed by consumption and superficiality and where respect and love are an empty garden, but Neil was That gardener who planted the seed that we all must take care of, now it is our turn to take care of that garden that he left us. May Heavenly Providence fill his family and friends with strength. Thank you Professor ... we will love you and always remember. A fraternal hug to all fans in this pain.

Put this on - minimize the screen and "listen" to Neil "play" the percussion piece to this song. Neil was truly amazing in how he lyricized and played, and added so much depth to each song this band produced. Stewart Copeland is right - Neil Peart was the greatest drummer we all "air drummed" to...

  75. Windson Alves

    R.I.P. Neil Peart
