Now that neil is retired i have been digging into some of the older albums that i still love. I never realized that madrigal is a style of music from the 14 century, makes sense now due to the album theme but all these years of listening to rush i just never realized that. Pretty cool stuff...

such a sweet song. I hadn't heard this in years and smoked a fat bowl the other night with a friend who turned this on and I nearly cried. the groove at 1:51 really pulls it all in together.

Their ability to go from epic marathons to short ballads and everything in between speaks to their all encompassing talent. My most favorite band for 35 years.

+smittydawg18 Not sure how Caress of Steel flopped at the time of its release. Fountain of Lamneth is nothing short of a masterpiece. I love 2112 as much as the next guy but COS is just as good IMO. Good thing that generation woke up and embraced 2112 or we might not have been listening to this amazing record or any that followed. Long live the music of RUSH!!!!!!!!!!

Yes, Rush is an all-time great band behind only The Beatles, Led Zeppelin, The Rolling Stones, and Bob Dylan. But Caress of Steel being as good as 2112?? I’m sorry, but 2112 is one the greatest and most-creative albums ever made by ANY band that has existed.

+Dan Knoblauch The only gripe I had about that cover is how the melody with the vocals at the end were mixed. Some notes were just coming on too strong and it sticks out like a sore thumb. Otherwise, it was fucking fantastic and I prefer it than the original.

The shortest song RUSH ever wrote but always felt it to be one of the most beautiful I've ever heard. Recorded an a cappella version for my wife last year which she was truly moved by despite clearly many times over the years expressing really not being a fan.

I don't think this is the shortest Rush song ever but very close. (I believe Closer To The Heart is shorter but I could be wrong).

 I'm afraid you are. This one is shorter by about 30 seconds. So unless we are counting "Didacts and Narpets" (Part of "The Fountain of Lamneth" saga) as a proper song on its own, then this one is the shortest.

because he barely plays a simple rithm with his drums


and that is why exacty he rules,,,because he understood the song didn´t need more complex rythms.... something drummers like Gavin Harrison never do... they play hard fills and complex stuff every fucking time!

Idon't think so, this album needed this song. It breaks up the album real well. Wish they wrote more stuff like this.

It is a lot to say, however I think the group concentrated their emotions in those songs, and that has some amazing results. However I now know the rush catalog better and can say that some songs to be added are Emotion Detector, Cygnus X-1 Books 1 and 2, Witch Hunt, The Camera Eye, Limelight, Afterimage, Mal Narc, Manhattan Project and Vital Signs.

same. never have stopped listening to them. never will. their music is as much a part of my being as my beliefs, soul, blood, sweat, and tears. nothing could ever replace their music.

Farewell to Kings is the first Rush album I ever heard and if I had to pick, would be my favorite to listen to today. After that Fly by Night, Caress of Steel, 2112, and Hemispheres would all be tied for 2nd
