Rush - Lakeside Park Lyrics
Midway hawkers calling
'Try your luck with me'
Merry-go-round wheezing
The same old melody
A thousand ten cent wonders
A pocketful of silver
The key to heaven's door
Lakeside Park
Willows in the breeze
Lakeside Park
So many memories
Laughing rides
Midway lights
Shining stars on summer nights
Days of barefoot freedom
Racing with the waves
Nights of starlit secrets
Crackling driftwood flames
Drinking by the lighthouse
Smoking on the pier
Still we saw the magic
Was fading every year
Everyone would gather
On the twenty-fourth of May
Sitting in the sand
To watch the fireworks display
Dancing fires on the beach
Singing songs together...
Though it's just a memory
Some memories last forever

Rush Lakeside Park Comments
I’m gonna try and go to Port Dalhousie to Lakeside park this Victoria Day
Rest in peace Great Stone Face.. Hope you see you playing this in heaven.
This gorgeous song totally stands the test of time. I’m a rush fan since exit stage left and my daughters birthday is 24th May!
*Trump2020!*
Feel his drums! A legend! All of them!
this song makes me miss summer break... i hate school
Easily one of the best outros ever.
My favourite rush album . Always thought of it as there dreamy album
Lakeside park soon well change the name to honor Neal Peart well deserved.
Such a feel good song 🇨🇦
I think geddy Lee called it lousy because it does kind of sound like led led Zeppelin
i grew up in Pt.Dalhousie.. same age..same time period.. went to same
school with Neil..even hung out in Lakeside Park..followed him around in the local bands he was in(The Majority,Jr Flood Doc Savage etc).. and later on became a drummer myself and we were rival drummers in different bands ( but known to each
other).. hung out some at Tasty Treat..downing burgers and cokes and
talking music for hours on end...he then got in with Starlord (local
band) and THE quit to go to Toronto to get in with some band called
"Rush"..a friend replaced him.. and i replaced the friend for a short
period when he broke his arm... as i did also Neil in Doc Savage when he
left them too... and later in 1973,i replaced him in an act called
Westfauster .... seemed as if i was constantly following him when he
left something.. BUT.. i knew the man.. and hold dear ALL those
memories....because sometimes, fond memories is ALL that remains
adds hopes and wishes to all cept dec'evrs
Give me chills to listen to this now. I love it.
The town is installing a plaque in the park to memorialize Neil. RIP buddy.
First heard Rush when I began working in ‘79 (an ex-con coworker always played the tapes in his car).
Ive been listening since.
My buddy rode on the hood of my car - while I did donuts in the park - driving in reverse.
Our friends were drinking their beers and cheering us on. - Winter of 1978-79.
Yeah the hood got dented - and a windshield wiper got bent and twisted. Good times.
I was lucky enough to visit lakeside park and do you know what stood out for me..."the willows in the breeze"
There is a petition to put a statue/memorial in Lakeside Park, St Catherine`s Ontario Canada for Neil Peart
RIP Neil. I was blessed to see you perform with Rush 6 times spanning your entire time with Geddy and Alex
RIP Neil!! "Canadian Zeppelin" -Gene Simmons of Kiss.
1:35 One of the best little guitar solos out there in my opinion.
One of the most beautiful, as well
Every time i think of something wonderful from my past i say out loud "Though it's just a memory some memories last forever"
thank u Neil
You know...it has a mid-70s country feel to it. Rush had that influence at the time. I read that Geddy thinks the guitar sounds like Genesis (maybe the dry Gibson sound from SEBTP), but to me it sounds like country radio from that time. Love In The Hot Afternoon comes to mind.
Would love to travel to Lakeside Park, in Port Dalhousie one day. If only to take a spin on that old merry-go-round. RIP Neil Peart, the greatest.
'Although he's just a memo-ry, some mem'ries last for ever...'
Though it's just a memory, some memories last forever. Thanks, brother Pratt. Be at peace. +
The pinnacle of lyrical imagery. Life in the golden horseshoe never sounded so good. Cant wait for May 24 2020. Shout out Neil Peart. You are a legend and your soul is forever immortalized in the incredible body of work you left behind. There is no better example than RUSH, of a band that did everything right. Greatest Of All Time.
"Though it's just a memory, some memories last forever." thank you, Neil, for all the memories.
Neil has returned to Lakeside Park. Thank you Neil for sharing your talent and genius with us.
Rest in Peace, my hero!
I am glad the song don't stink like the pier at lakeside park does.
"This is a song that Neil wrote the lyrics for, about a place not too far from where he was born. Not too far from here, as a matter of fact. It's called LAKESIDE PARK!"
"Days of barefoot freedom, racing with the waves"... Rest In Peace brother Peart!
Though its just a memory....Some Memories last forever....RIP
Bon voyage Neil !
R.I.P neil
All my family and friends grew up in the park, thanks to Neal we will always remember. My father use to tell me of going to the park after collecting his paper route money (1920’s) and getting a dog and a Coke for a nickel ....xoxo
This Album got me through a breakup way back then . Memories 🤔😀Ahhh. Beautiful ❤️.
see you on the other side neil .
Lake side
The best most air drummed dude ever
Thank you for being on this planet Neil. You left much too early.
So deeply saddened by the news! Many great songs! RIP Neil
Rest easy Neil Peart!
This my fav song you ever wrote!
I always thought so too
Neil only wrote the words, not the music or the melody.
Bob Wolenski Yep
RIP Neal Peart you shaped our young lives with your lyrics and drumming and music. I hope you are happy now that you've crossed over, and we'll see you again I'm sure. ☹🇨🇦
My favorite Rush song of all time.
RIP Neil Peart (1952-2020)...
R I P. Neil Peart
Rest In Peace Neal😔❤

Geauga Lake amusement park in Ohio was my "lakeside park"
lol i legit live like right next to lakeside park honestly it's depressing now oop and very few people are actually aware of it's connection to rush
They called this the down the tubes tour.....I call it CLASSIC!!!!!! ❤️😁✌️
I absolutely love the general sound and production of Caress of Steel and especially this song. There are not many songs that brings me in the type of mood that Lakeside Park does
Legendardry band.
my favorite Rush song...about growing up and going to summer events, etc. incredible!
R.I.P. Joe Anthony
Who was reminded of this song from Danny?
Geddy Lee may not have liked his song, but for me it takes me back to beautiful childhood times in Canada. Tanks Geddy!
The sentiments of Neil Young's Sugar Mountain revisited.
This whole album is a fucking Masterpiece.
Good jam
Very good ! Rush caress of steel the best ! Rhythm, music and melody !
“The key to heaven’s door”...given that Knockin’ on Heaven’s Door had come only months before this,
I wonder if Neil meant that as a respectful nod to Dylan...
One of Rush’s most underrated cuts.
This album was a flop and infuriated record executives. It was a pretty bold and self-indulgent record, however I like it a lot.
I grew up in Port Dalhousie, real close to Lakeside Park. Love this song
How you say .... ?
Famtasamall-ly exqiusit ?
Scouss'a me folks ...

Happy 24th of May!
Everyone would gather on the 24th of May 2:38
Happy 24th of May
Who came here on the 24th of May?
Happy Lakeside Park day!
My favorite song by Rush since I was born on May 24!
The first time i listened to this song was on the 21st of may i was off by a few days unfortunately
Surely there best song ever just love the guitars on this. I think he doesn't like it because it reminds him of growing old
A Song about a group of young kids who had one last Summer to hang out and ponder what was out there in The Big World for them......just my take of this wonderful memory from Neil Peart.
First time I ever got black out drunk was at Lakeside park
What a great album
Port Delusy
He was born down the road from me in Port Delusive my buddy caanged his mother's screen door Rush is the best
One of the reasons I love this song is that you could tweak the lyrics and make it about Canobie Lake Park, a 1902 amusement park in Salem NH where I work part time every summer. I also have fond memories of their Halloween/haunted house event (Where I also work) around 2012 when I'd get up in the early afternoon, go to the the store across the street and get a Red Bull and a fried chicken sammich, and crank 'A Far Cry' also by Rush, to get psyched up and drive over for a night of scaring people.
not lakeside park but this song sums up my teen years so well its scary
The sound of Alex lifeson guitar on this whole album is simply stunning
Agreed...........up to this album Rush was mainly Lifeson and Geddy's voice, After it all three were like short stroke cylinders: in harmony and powerful.
Ahhh the CNE it is a special place.
I could just list to the drum tracks of this song. Neil demonstrates how subtle his genius is here better than any other song
What a delightful Melody. I close my eyes ...and I'm there.
