Rush - Bastille Day Lyrics
There's no bread, let them eat cake
There's no end to what they'll take
Flaunt the fruits of noble birth
Wash the salt into the earth
La guillotine will claim her bloody prize
Free the dungeons of the innocent
The king will kneel and let his kingdom rise
Bloodstained velvet, dirty lace
Naked fear on every face
See them bow their heads to die
As we would bow as they rode by
And we're marching to Bastille Day
Sing, oh choirs of cacophony
The king has kneeled, to let his kingdom rise
Lessons taught but never learned
All around us anger burns
Guide the future by the past
Long ago the mould was cast
For they marched up to Bastille Day
La guillotine claimed her bloody prize
Hear the echoes of the centuries
Power isn't all that money buys

Rush Bastille Day Comments
Cool guitar solo!!!
Who's here because of Johnny Test?
Just another day in a life of a boy named Johnny Test!
Does anyone know what kind of genre of rock this is? I haven't been able to pin it down but this is one of my favorite songs of all time and I want to find more like it!
panda at the time it was just rock but today it is classified as progressive rock.
One of the most amazing bands ever
Revolution !!!!
One of the best Peart's lyrics... And one of the best opening in any Rush album...
Still my favorite Rush album.
MEU DEUS VCS SÃO DA TERRA?
this is one of my favs. This album is underrated, misunderstood.
*When there isn't enough cake at the mini golf birthday party*
I like Canada, but I wouldn't move there, cause fuck a monarch, and if Americans aren't careful, Trump will make his family and America a Monarchy
So just chew on this. The Acadian French, MiqMaq, and Scottish fought the English and the English took over what is now Canada. Canadians bow to a monarch of privelage no different than French Royalty.
The 31 dislikes listen to annoying rap music
Play this on 2 times speed and it’s a thrash metal song
Still one of my very favorite Rush songs.
THIS SONG IS SO AMAZING. THOSE GUITAR RIFFS, THE INTENSE MELODIC PACE. THIS IS THE SONG YOU LISTEN TO IN A RACE. YOU ARE ASSURED TO WIN.
You've got to play Bastille Day
Slow it down to 0.5 speed and you got Ronnie James dio 🙌🤣 only know because my slow ass is practicing this on bass guitar.
Listening on Bastille Day, 2019.
Right on
Kenny Holliday Jr 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻
Lessons taught, but never learned...
Happy lemony cake day July14 2019
Bastille Day
this whole album is SO under rated, what an AMAZING opening song this is, the timing towards the end is spectacular !!!!
Rush is and always be the best progressive rock band ever period
A excellent album-like all the early stuff. Great smoking tunes.
May it be a R U S H GATEWAY 🎼? ....
I 🙏IT IS AS SUCH !
Me ?
Just on a R U S H. ... TRIP !
A FOREMOST EPIC 🎼🎵🎶
Killer!
Just read that Dream Theater took their original name 'Majesty' from Portnoy's commentary on Bastille Day, that's one more reason to love DT, as if there weren't enough, Rush continues to just be plain epic.
Fun fact: This song was a major influence on Dream Theater's early work, and if it weren't for this song or Rush in general, likely Dream Theater wouldn't be who they are today
The best misunderstood album of all time great tracks like this gem GODS peace
Who would've figured this make the 1st Johnny Test theme..
Black Sabbath's "Master's of Reality" , Deep Purple's "In Rock" , Rush's "Caress of Steel" . First time I played the Album , there was a connection I'm sure others have that can't be explained in words . It's as if you were sky diving for the first time . Great Album !
I'm french and ........... i like this song "vive la révolution"!
La Tweet Tweet
The riff in this song is killer. Makes me wanna chop off some heads. I bet the isis members listen to this song before decapitating their victims just to get psyched up.
Great song to kill all humans to
and the gods said "let there be Neil"
a musica que salvou todo o disco!as outras foram muito experimentais!
Used to do this and many more from Rush in our band in Seattle...awesome music...
Dont worry Gramps, some of us kids still know where the good stuff is ;)
The song that give Dream Theater their first name Majestic!
Damn, been listening to this since the late 70’s. I just now realized how insane the drumming is on this track. In you’re mind, you know it’s Rush with the maestro Peart. But I never listened to just the drums on their own. I always listen to Rush as a unit. I’m blown away. Better late than never😂🤘🏻
maravilhoso
"Power isn't all that money buys"
Yellow Vests theme song
It's what made me think of this song
I am forever young listening to Rush.
Remember that time Rush dabbled in punk rock?

I dont know but... maybe this is the best band of universe....?
Do we get here with Rutsey still on skins?
Better than 2112 . . .
No hay comentarios en español? 🤔 En México hay muchos fans... Cultos musicalmente todos ellos, me incluyo 😎😂 Rush!!!! ,🎵🎵🎸🎸🎙

dang forgot about this
Happy Bastille Day!
RUSH, rocks
Bastille Day 2018!!!
Well theres no bread, LET EM EAT CAKE!!!!
Marie Antoinette was not offering something sweet to satisfy the stomachs of the hungry masses, but rather "cake" was burnt dough that was scraped off the oven walls. Hardly a treat. Perhaps that was why the citizens revolted.
My first cassette I ever owned was Rush carress of steel in 81" 🇨🇦
Heavy fuckin metal before it was heavy metal
I'm from Brazil.
I Love Bastille Day
Early Rush is the best
We love France! we love Rush!

I love this Song! Rush is the best band ever! ♡
this is for Canada..... period
I can't believe that back in the day this album bombed! Was way ahead of it's time!! I listen to it today, and still get that awesome feeling listening to the sound and genius intricacies of this song.
France is desperately in need of another revolution to expel Muslim invaders!
Rush announced that they are done after 41 years. Thanks for all of the great memories!
Show de Bola!
I love lemmony cake
how did RUSH make it with this whiny nasal voice? horrible...far from Steve Perry...
Jeff Porcaro Groove because of the guitar
I want to go back to 1975!
stellar just fucking killer
Valor isn't all that money buys!
By Far RUSH's most underrated album.. When it was released in 1975, it was a very misunderstood album which almost ended the Band's career unfortunately but in a positive way it fueled the fire for the guys to record "2112".. AT the time Geddy,Alex and Neil decided that if this was going to be their last time recording then they were going to - As Geddy put it- "Go out in a blaze of Glory"..well of course needless to say that 2112 saved Rush's career...So in my opinion C.O.S. plays an important part in the Band's history and today ask any diehard fan and nine times out of ten they will agree that C.O.S. is criminally underrated.
Heard a story, can't confirm it. After Caress, the record company was annoyed and asked them to record shorter songs that would be good for radio play. In response, Rush gave 'em 2112. Kind of a big F U from Alex, Geddy, and Neil. Love it even if the story isn't true.
Bought it within days of its release, and played it till it melted on my turntable. Loved every note. Could never figure out why it wasn’t initially raved over. It’s aged extremely well, too. Classic album. This tune kicks ass.
Yup..it is true. They decided that if it failed they had failed doing it their way and not someone else's. As Neil put it "we got mad...real mad...and the result was 2112. Attendance to shows during the Caress Tour was so bad the band roadies started to call it the "down the tubes tour" as they figured it was over for the band. And then came 2112 and the success of that album allowed the band to do pretty much whatever they wanted after that.
Alex's 1968 Gibson ES-335 I believe.
I'm reading about how the record company hated the Necromancer. "It was too long." What the f--k then happened to most of the record companies? They fell to the guillotine. Hard... ;-)
bastille day is today
Happy Bastille Day
It's that time of year again, folks!
Happy Bastille Day everyone. Hopefully we can have one soon in the usa
hey people leave politics out of rush music. let us have at last one place where it is politic free. let us have one nice thing ....please
neo the one I really do not mean to upset you here...however, as a fan of Rush since 1985,
I can safely say there is no escaping politics in Rush lyrics.
The early lyrics especially are influenced by Ayn Rand.
Just as no style of music is off limits with Rush,
neither is any subject.
@Jason Lefler and that is fine i get that. but 2019 politics are so tiring i listen to music to escape trump and what not and here it is. i just want one place where the hate isnt seeping in. is that too much to ask
neo the one I can see what you mean.
Rush is one great escape after another.
That’s a gift for life.
@Big Bass Drum Screen Printing you're gonna put Trump supporters on the guillotine? Okay then.
And folks wonder why we won't give up our guns... ever.
Saw a unheard of band called Rush .......April 1975 in Okc ,they have done well in 42 years !
Happy Bastille Day, everyone!
happy Bastille day!
Listening to this on Bastille Day 2017, July 14
Great fucking music.
Happy Bastille Day !
This ones for YOU, Trump!
Yellow Vests?
yo dumb idiot, I'd say its for the liberal elites- IE Macron right now with his 10% French approval rating- yellow vests raging in the streets...
@Big Bass Drum Screen Printing
C'mon, dude... RUSH fans only, no politics!!!!
@Big Bass Drum Screen Printing U failed with Nappy B....off with UR head
@Big Bass Drum Screen Printing Ah, no actually. Rush: fuck yeah! Dethrone Trump: fuck off! You can keep your middle of the fucking road socialist, err, Marxist, er Communist crap to yourself. We'll listen to Rush and rock onward!
ty awesome.my idols.
was nodding off until this started with that kickass run
Brutal.
Come on, Le Pen!
If we have Red Dawn in USA, Canada won't let us flee there! They'll take in people from Mexico. Bastille Day might be coming to USA soon. China and Russia are at our borders and underground now. This is an awesome song.
To the four people that disliked this video, that better have been to stop the 662 likes from becoming 666. Either than that like the video because it's great.
One of their very best, never gets old.
fun to play on guitar!
Dale Aderholdt just got done learning the solo
Fun to play on my didgeridoo
Fun to play on the jaw harp too
Wicked song. Fantastic. How you can you not like this stuff?
I know, right!?! Rush is probably the band with the name that best describes their music. You put this on, it's like taking a huge hit of crack, but without the whole crack part...
MK ULTRA
awsome song love the bass
OMG...that guitar riff !!!
This was the first Rush song i ever heard . Back in 1978 , now it's 2016 and i am 57 years " old " . Now i listen to them on blu-ray R40 tour , through my Yamaha RX - 3050 with my Kef R900 speakers .
By-Tor & the Snow Dog U Twit!
my GOD! you sure know how to spoil yourself, salute, i'm envious, enjoy my fellow rush fan PEACE!!!
Maybe some day you'll be able to afford a proper HiFi! ;-P
This was the first Rush song I ever heard too - my dad and I were listening to music whilst I was doing some art homework and he chose this song, it was honestly enchanting. I heard this a few years ago and have been obsessed with Rush since. My parents have introduced to me so many other great bands from that time, but I have found nobody who could do better than this amazing band. I am about to turn 16 at the end of August and I am so glad that my dad introduced me to Rush otherwise I would be massively missing out for quite some time. I am a bigger fan of Rush than my parents ever were - luckily they own all the albums so I don't have to buy them myself ekeke ^-^
