Runrig - City Of Lights Lyrics
I arrived in the city of lights
Enchanted ballrooms where I lost my life
I've closed my eyes
On your fairground smile
Seedy heroes and silver tills
I place my bets
Trading with strangers in silhouette
There's a sadness
There's a joy
There's a place
There's a song that will never die
Forever
I drink your health, son of the earth
We're all still fired
Old emotions still burn inside
On solid ground, round the mother tongue
A tower of hope, a joyful sound
You take your time
A hand of aces in a pack of lies
There's a sadness
There's a joy
There's a place
There's a song that will never die
Another Night
In this town
Holds me close
Holds me there in the searchlight
Forever
I found my song and I started to sing
Took me away on an olden wing
So far from home
Standing so lonely but not alone
In this empire of ache and rhyme
Lovers and best friends are running blind
I grasp your hand
Is this the only world I understand
There's a sadness
There's a joy
There's a place
There's a song that will never die
Another Night
In this town
Holds me close
Holds me there in the searchlight
Forever
And ever

Magic music, it has enchanted me since I worked in Stirling in 1988.
This was runrig at it's very best. Loved going to see donnie and the guys perform..so many fantastic memories that just come flooding back when you watch runrig at the BARRAS.get so emotional watching this!!
Its no the first time i,ve watched this, but it always reminds of the time when a wiz doing stewarding at the new royal concert hall (Glasgow).and after the 5th night. me and ma mate were told to watch the stage, while the band and bosses were at last night party, were sitting
bored out for nuts, then Donnie Munro walks on the stage and starts talking about the concert hall, he says its really clean, and we told him, nabody could even bring in a drink of any kind in.
he said, big difference fae the Barrowlands, you could SHITE on the floor and nobody cared.
This needs to be remastered and given a DVD/download release. It's the least it deserves.
Think it's available on DVD from Runrig site.
Best Band on this globe...Farewell ! TNX guys, over so many years in my life-They are the greatest
If you would ask me who the three biggest Scottish bands were, my answers would be Simple Minds, Big Country, and, of course, Runrig.
The Corries could be added to this, I believe.
This video changed my life. It's magnificent.
I still have this video tape....just can't throw it away.
There will NEVER be a band as Great as Runrig ever again.
So true !
There must be Angels looking down on us 🏴 as we have the most beautiful Country in the 🌏 Run Rig as for picking Stirling Castle 2 do your last gig don't get me wrong Perthshire 😍 Loch Lomond would have been a better choice thx for 45 years that you have given 🏴🏴🏴
It is still as great watching this as was almost 30 years ago. It's so sad they broke up.
Wish I could turn back time. Thx for all the years and the good music. Thank you and God bless you
Still got the vhs what a blast from the past !
Went to my first Runrig gig in Denmark (Aarhus) around 1989-90 and have been a devoted fan since then. Have been hiking in Scotland and one night had dinner at Drovers' Inn, where we heard Loch Lomond being played. In august thia year 2018 we luckily are attending the last gig at Sterling
Thank you so much for putting this up. It has taken me right back to dancing with my two toddlers in the kitchen to City of Lights.
Was at the gig at Irvine Magnum a couple of days before this 1 and what a performance it was. Runrig at their peak
Not a patch on the marquiees at Bayfield in Portree, but was at the Barraland that night, remember seeing them in 1982 in the Marshall Centre in Edinbane,
My favourite Scottish band there absolutely amazing. Can’t. Believe it’s the final mile this year. Will miss them
M Shadows I have to agree to a point donnie was my favourite never took to Bruce
Much appreciation for the sharing of this. Have been enjoying Runrig since '79 with "Highland Connection" but being down here in Aotearoa/New Zealand have never seen them live - and now I probably never will. Their music has been with me on mountain and sea and in good times and bad. The glory days for chan eil an duslach lag/the dust is not weak.
same here, first concert 1989 at age 6 in germany - hamburg, was on stage with donnie in 1994 berlin and now the last 2 concerts - köln and stirling!!! saw them over 200 times live... will cry in stirling
Fantastic video! Thanks for sharing!
Moved to Scotland from England in October 16 to be with my lady and make a life in the highlands of Scotland, never looked back. Such a spiritual journey. Beautiful people, beautiful land.. all soundtracked by runrig.. English man Celtic heart. Such power..
M Shadows .... palthetic?.... sorry?? I done something with my life and took a great journey? I'm either reading your response wrong or you are an uneducated fool, spelling obviously not being your forte... if I'm reading your pathetic response to my statement wrong and your not just a troll with a boring life who looks for kicks from bugging people then I apologize.. if I'm right... well maybe do something with your life that keeps your mind a little bit more occupied and stops the little boy inside screaming out for attention. Yes I have responded to you but simply because I am trying to understand how sad life really must be to feel that you must crave attention.. sending my best wishes to your potentially disturbed brain.
M Shadows it appears that you are very judgemental my friend, I have embraced new family, New friends, a new way of life... which makes me pathetic 😂😂 wow! It appears you are the sad one living in your enclosed world not believing that people can genuinely embrace new cultures. Yes I have many friends and family back in England, who may I see are very proud to havd a friend/family member who has done something with their life. I don't know you but judging by your response you are very embittered person who I feel sorry for. Wow what must your life be like if you are able to be a judge on other people's lives, well... I will leave it to you to judge yourself. Hope your life is as wonderful and splendorous as I can only believe it must be for you to take a look at others in such ways. Take care my friend and at some point may you be very happy and content in your troll like ways.
Thank You 😊
went to concert in 1978. missed most through teenage alcohol. now regret seeing the best band ever. city of lights watched every new year since 1988. i salute Runrig. Hoope and inspiration , god bless
Canny believe this was nearly 30 years ago, wish i could turn back the clock.
Wow. Haven't watched this in well over 20 years. Thanks for the memories. :)
